Mediaset's got an interesting article. (link) They're hypothesizing that Carletto seems ready to change the starting formation for Milan this year: that it'll move from the Christmas Tree 4-3-2-1 to a 4-2-3-1.

They're suggesting that the starting lineup may be something like this:

Abbiati
Zambrotta Senderos ( (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) ) Kaladze Jankulovski
Pirlo Gattuso/Flamini/Ambrosini
Ronaldinho Kaka Shevchenko
Pato/Pippo/Borriello

It's an interesting theory. I hope they're wrong about those two CBs starting together but shaking things up like this could produce interesting results if the defense can hold it together.

yea read that and the team is selected by voting from the users

What kind of users voted for Sanderos? And paired with Kaladze? They should be found out and then taken out and shot. Or worse still, made to meet dst. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Exactly. In particular when dst is angry, maybe after a bad performance from Kaladze? Worse fate than death.

I have to say, our bench finally looks good.

As for formation it depends on the opponent, next Sunday for example I don't want to see 2 defencive mids against the ultra defencive Bolonga. It should be eihter one of Flamini/Rino/Ambro and Pirlo and Seedorf to complete the midfield 3

Ronaldinho as the trequartista in Kaka's absence and Sheva and Pato upfront. Hopefully we'll see this next Sunday.

If it is a tougher opponent for example Inter/Roma I would go for the 2 defensive mids with the xmas tree, because once Kaka is back there is no other way to play unless it's a 4-2-3-1 with the team lining up like this

Zambro--Nesta--Maldini--Janku
----------Pirlo---DMF-------------
---Kaka-----Seedorf-----R80----
----------------ST-----------------

I think our three trequartistas would be rotated. But I'm not sure... Carlo won't dump the 2 DMs unless the defence really pull their socks up and hit the next level. Which frankly, I don't see happening.

Yes but against a team like Bolonga we need that something extra a defesive mid is not required in such a game, we all know that they will come to San Siro to defend the draw, so having an extra push in midfield would do us more good.

Btw we all saw first hand last season that having more defensive mids does not neccisarily mean that we won't conceed becuase we have countless times while Ambro and Rino were playing, in fact it was shocking how many goals we conceeded. Having Seedorf in midfield would actually allow us to control the play better and keep the ball much more easily

It would also kill us in the counter...the idea behind the DMs is like R7 said once, an old tactic, win back possession the moment you lose it(Ask Chez Maldini and Don Fabio).

The difference this season will be Flamini as opposed to Brocchi. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Mediaset is reporting that we'll play with 4-2-3-1 while Gazzetta is reporting that we'll play with 4-3-2-1...

And they could both be wrong. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'm not sure anyone really knows what sort of formation Milan will start with.

It's rather refreshing!

4-2-3-1 would be interesting. It seems to be the formation of modern football, alot of the top clubs and nations use it now. Maybe Milan will follow.

Not neccissarily Jack, you know we got ripped on the counter last season also while playing Ambro and Rino, we also conceeded more cheap goals then probably any other team in the league.

If we play smart we won't get ripped on the counter, this is how we played before Sheva left, Seedorf in midfield with Kaka acting as trequartista and 2 strikers, and we'de have Cafu and sometimes Sergio on the other wing acting as fullback, and still we used to shread teams apart while not conceeding, even while playing with Kaladze at the back (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

I'm not saying play Seedorf in the midfield 3 against Inter or anything like that, but against an ultra defencive team like Bolonga it would be far better, we saw the 2 defensive mid tactic fail over and over again in the league against these inferior teams where we either drew or even shockingly lost. This is where Milan lost the league imo, not against Juve/Inter and Roma.

And btw, Brocchi rarely started matches, he was used as a form of insult to injury by Carlo, when we're trailing or drawing and we need a goal desperately and he would sub him in for Rino (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Very true. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) And we all tend to forget this. 1-0 down, Brocchi on, game off.
