Not so much out of the blue, really. Monaco's been whispered as a destination for the past couple of days. Simic's departure is official, btw. There's a note up on acmilan.com.

I've heard Celtic... but guess that didn't work out. I wonder how much we sold him for.

Monaco has two other Croats... so he'll link up with them.

goal.com mentioned Celtic but goal is not reliable. tuttomercatoweb and mediaset were mentioning monaco.

so milan trades the croat for the serb, i guess you can only have one or the other (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

but i always thought simic was a very loyal guy, never really complained even though he's been our 5th CB for the past couple of years! too bad because he was quality and when match fit better than kaladze (imagine if he was treated the same way (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) he'd be b1tching all year long)

Thanks Porto

Hopefully it will be done, can't believe that I actually believed fester when he said the transfer window is closed (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Hopefully he'll play some great games and cement himself as a starter. And I'm crossing my fingers that we don't do a Crespo with this one if he does well

Not the worst signing ever. Ideally I'd have wanted a real top CB to start with Nesta.. but it seems we'll just have Nesta + Ivanovic/Bonera/Kaladze/Maldini. Should be enough.

+1.

As far as team players go, he was the perfect one to have. Unlike Kaladze. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) There goes our Milan of Captains. With him we've lost another one of our NT captains. First Sheva (Ukraine), then Cafu (Brazil), and now Simic (Croatia). The only remaining captains left are Paolo (our), Kaladze (Georgia).

I really think there are better defenders out there than Simic... but no disrespect to him, I fully respect Simic and I think this move is correct for him.

Yeah, should in all probability be. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) We do have a couple of makeshift guys too that we can use in times of injuries.

It's actually a big upgrade. Simic would have never played in the league so why keep him taking up a spot when he's not going to be played? Ivanovic is better then Kaladze, miles better imo. So hopefull until Nesta returns to full fitness it will be Ivanovic and Bonera or Maldini. When Nesta comes back hopefully he will have adjusted by then to be a permanent starter and he could start next to Nesta, a;ways hoping they can form a strong pairing in the middle because that is what we have been lacking these last 3 seasons. A strong pairing in the middle of defence, the most integral part of the team's backbone imo.

Also if he adjusts fast enough I'm hoping Kaladze would not even get a look in for a starting position

Well, Ronnie is the captain for the Brazil Olympic team so I'm sure that counts. And Jankulovski is the Czech Republic captain, I think. And Dida has captain a few Brazil games. And Flamini is a good future captain material and so's Kaka. And Ivanovic shall become a captain as well. So don't lose heart, acidboy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

UFO (Tomas Ujfalusi) is the Czech captain. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Or was during the Euros. Normally it's Tomas Rosicky of Arsenal.

Given that Domenech is still coaching the French NT, Flamini has about as much chance of getting a call up as my fish doll.

Milan does probably have the Brazilian captain (Ronaldinho or Kaka), but the days of fielding 4 NT captains at a time are over at least for now.

EDIT: However, Milan can still field 3 former Lazio captains at once (Nesta, Favalli, Oddo). (fishdoll odd trivia note of the day) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/96.gif)

I think Ivanovic is a great signing, and I hope he plays well enough for us to make it permanent.
