Chelsea have made a £19.7m bid for Real Madrid player Robinho. Not sure why Chelsea are in for him, if there's a position they don't need it's Winger/AM types. With Ronaldo now staying at United, I don't know if Madrid would be desperate to sell.

Not a big fan of Robinho however I do think this fee would make him a worthy signing. I was hearing figures like £48mil a few weeks ago which would have been ridiculous.

Hopefully it would mean the end of Joe Cole as well so he can go to a mediocre club like Newcastle and show that he really isn't World Class like everyone in England seems to want to believe.

Anyway at least Robinho is only 24 so he has a lot left of his career not like usual Chelsea past-it buys. #cough# Deco #cough#...

Why would Madrid sell their #10 and an important player like Robinho if they've not reached C.Ronaldo deal?
Some rumours about the no-Ronaldo but Silva and Villa (both from Valencia) in... but I don't believe.

Yeah, decent fee for him.

You don't like Joe Cole? I'm a fan to be honest, much better than that over-rated **** Bentley. Was one of Chelsea's best players last season in my opinion. I'd cry if he went to Newcastle, Citeh or Portsmouth though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

I'm not sure what to think about Deco, Laoporta said they failures of the last few seasons have all been his fault, a bit harsh, but he can't have been playing well to be sold at such a cheap price and that said about him. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Well, Guardiola seems like another one in the Wenger mould. You know, great with kids but not a fan of ageing players. I'd say that Deco just didn't fit into his plans and noone would want to keep such a player on the bench. It would be a disgrace and expensive as well. the cheap price only means that they were quite eager to offload him. As with Ronaldinho. Deco is one of those "class is permanent, form is temporary" kind of players as we saw that in the Euro he was quite brilliant. I'm sure Scolari would get him back to his best. Though what I'm more interested is who will he choose between Lampard (who's the fan's favourite), Ballack (who is immense and the true workhorse of the Chelsea midfield) and Deco (who is the coach's favourite and the one who can play the attractive football that Abramorich wants). One more weekend to go. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

In my opinion..

Cech

Bosingwa - Carvalho - Terry - Ashley Cole

Essien

Deco - Lampard

Anelka - Drogba - Joe Cole

SUBS: Cudicini, Ferreira, Alex, Ballack, Malouda, Kalou, Shevchenko.

That's my opinion on it anyways. A few are interchangable. Wouldn't be surprised to see Kalou or Malouda starting, and SWP/Belletti/Bridge/Mikel on the bench. They have too many players!

Scolari would probably go on a 4-5-1 I'd guess. I doubt he'd bench Ballack, who's much better technically than Lampard. And Ballack contributes to bella calcio more than Lampard. Who if not for the fact that he can bend the ball off defenders behinds, is rather ineffective(yes he has improved a lot, but he's still no Ballack when it comes to vision!).

Robinho's bid amount of 20 mill pounds? Madrid will laugh at their faces.

It will be a very good dilema for him. My personal favourite of the 3 is Lampard, not just for the obvious reason. But 10 goals in 18 EPL games last season? I don't believe there's a better goal scoring midfielder in the World, and Lampard is even a true AM, he's more of a box-to-box guy as he finished Chelsea's top tackler the other season. I hate the way he's been made the scapegoat for the England failures, while Gerrards been made out to be the good guy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Of course there is one, and Chelsea are lucky to have him in their squad --> Ballack (of course Lampard is very good as well). At almost 32 he's better than ever in his career. He might have been unlucky last season to loose both the CL and the EURO final but Balle is not the kinda player who'd start whining over it. He's desperate to win the CL now.
Besides that Chelseas transfer policy has been really stupid this summer. Buying Deco..he's done plus it doesn't make any sense to buy a central midfielder when already have Balle, Lamps and Essien. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

I agree that Deco was somebody they just bought for the sake of it. Then again, Scolari was the last Portugal coach. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

The transfer would have made sense if they sold Lampard after buying him but with that unlikely it is a bit weird. They don't need him but for Abramovich it's probably like seeing a 1/2 price offer in a supermarket, I mean 8 million's nothing... They will probably release him next year and buy someone else so it doesn't matter.

Bar a couple of players (Cech & Carvalho spring to mind) I can think of few that have consistently season-in, season-out done well for Chelsea since the Abramovich era and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

What about Essien? He's been rather good, hasn't he?

As well as being a dirty cheat, Essien has been pretty great for Chelsea.

QUOTE
You snooze, you lose in big twos bid to sign Roque Santa Cruz

Manchester City and Aston Villa each want to sign striker Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn.

City boss Mark Hughes is now understood to have put Santa Cruz at the top of his wish-list but must wait for the funds from defender Vedran Corluka’s stalled £7million move to Tottenham.

Corluka has not been able to agree an increase on his City wage of £45,000 a week.

Villa boss Martin O’Neill has also prioritised Santa Cruz and, if they are forced to sell, then Blackburn would rather the player head to the Midlands than join up with his old Rovers manager at City.

Villa are believed to have had an initial offer of around £10m turned down.

Meanwhile, Blackburn striker Maceo Rigters is heading to Barnsley on loan. The 24-year-old Dutchman has flopped at Rovers despite winning the Golden Boot at the 2007 European Under-21 Championship.

Mail on Sunday

Great news if true. And of the 2, I just don't see him going o City as they're on bad terms after the way City went about getting Mark Hughes from Blackburn, while they commended us on how we went about signing Friedel. If we signed him I'd be excited for the new season!

Corluka to Spurs.. are they trying to sign every high profiled foreigner available? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) A good signing, but Ramos spent £20m on a new defense in January - including a RB - so why on earth would he go and sign Corluka as well. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) i dont think ballack could score goal in open play if his life depended on it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) just kidding but i can easily name 20 midfielders that have better scoring records, we all know how ballack scores his goals (set pieces)

Squad numbers for Chelsea this season. Not sure if Ivanovic keeping #2 means anything? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Di Santo getting the #9 jersey must mean he'll feature in Scolari's plans, not surprising considering the pre-season he's had.

First game of the English season just finished.

Birmingham 1-0 Sheffield United
Former Villa and West Brom player, Kevin Phillips, scored a 92nd minute winner. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
