I wouldn't talk about goal scoring records. George Weah has won World player of the year, and his goal scoring record for Milan was worse than Gila's, so..

Weah was not exactly a goal poacher... He could create and assist. On the other hand, Gila = useless... (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

wow, today has been a fun read in this topic. after considering everyones points, here is my take on this controversial Adebayor transfer saga:

this is a good buy. players like adebayor really only fulfill their true potential by the time their 27, 28ish. Adebayor has immense capacity even if he wastes some chances while hes 24. If you look at the players in the Adebayor mold, the likes of drogba, luca toni, kevin kuranyi, Kanoute etc, none of these aforementioned big target men never cemented themselves as great/fulfilled their potential until after this 27/28 age barrier. Drogba was beastly, but not prolific until recently. Toni? same thing, only 2 seasons ago did he actually step his game up.

The type of features Adebayor would bring to us is height, broad shoulders, good control (hey, many would refute this, but if you play on arsenal, and you get 30 goals, you have to have some sort of decent touch granted the way they play..) , and surprising speed for a man of his size. On top of that..if we bring in drogba and eto'o, we are bringing a lot of excess baggage along with their talent. They both have mouths and can be polarizing characters. Adebayor gets on GREAT with his team mates..hes humble..[i]and he's got some dance moves.

Now lets take a look at the alternatives:

Drogba - truly prolific, talks a lot of ****, dives, he's already thirty. (Wasn't considered truly prolific until the season before last when he was 29/30.) Only TWO seasons where he has scored more than 20, once when he was 25/26, and then two seasons ago (39 goals) when he was 29!

Eto'o - unlike drogba, he's been prolific since he was 24/25. same mold as pato tho. pato could be better than this guy ever was 2 seasons from now.

Toni - now he is the premier target man in the world right now, (apart from his euro 08 form). Yet, the first time he ever got 20 goals was with Palermo, his age? 27/28.

Amauri - until last two seasons, Amari WHO?

...get my point?

Adebayor has now gotten himself 30 goals for Arsenal in his first year as a full time starter, at the age of 24. He was the only rock of a forward for arsenal in a season where van persie, eduardo, and bendtner all did not contribute like they should have. He has good enough touch for his size, more than enough speed for his size. The clincher is the killer instinct in front of goal that translates to prolific stature. He has all the tools to be a great hit man, and the confidence and decisiveness in front of goals comes with experience.

Adebayor is intelligent in the way he controls long balls into space, would provide Andrea with a broad shouldered, 6 ft. 3 inch frame off of which kaka and pato can make their runs..and is an immense target in the box for our fullbacks zambro and oddo to find. For his size, he actually has great dribbling ability! He is quite skilled in terms of one-on-one moves. On top of that, hes only going to get better! He already has more pace than ANY of the big target men mentioned above.

The price is steep, the upside is a guy who can potentially be a consistent 30+ goal scorer for us until the rest of his career. If Pippo gets 18 goals with kaka's service in something like 20 appearances..of which 7 or 8 are taps in, and the others headers, tell me what a younger, more consistently healthy, ever improving adebayor would bring us.

Fincenzo Morabeto (spell) Adebayor's agent has stated that Adebayor has reached an agreement with Milan for a 4yr contract worth 4.5MM/season.

A friend called me to tell me this just now .. So I am waiting to see if this is accurate or just rumors!

yea, we have an agreement with ronaldinho as well...doesn't mean much of anything if the club is not happy with their price.

This is perhaps slightly old news as the announcement was made ten or so days ago, but I think that Milan plan to keep Ignacio Abate.

There's a very nice article on acmilan.com's italian version link about him with the standard biographical information that generally accompanies new signings. The article ends with this: 'Al Milan ritroverà Luca Antonini, riscattato a sua volta dal club rossonero pochi giorni fa, e papà Beniamino, preparatore dei portieri milanisti' [At Milan, he will meet back up with Luca Antonini, bought a couple of days ago by Milan, and his father Beniamino, goalkeeper trainer.]

So I think this one's a keeper. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/96.gif)

Question, why are we only signing players for 4 year contracts not the standard 5 years? (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Especially guys like Zambro, Flamini and Adebayor?

Well we supposedly have agreements with every player in Europe right now, but always fail to agree on the transfer fee with the club that owns them. Personally I think it's pointless to make agreement with players if in the end we are not willing to pay their transfer fee

According to his agent, Turkish talent Arda Turan will play with either Milan or Juventus next season.

21-year-old forward Arda Turan of Turkey has been one of the big surprises of Euro 2008, and this summer he looks set to make a move to a big club, most probably in Italy.

According to his agent Ahmet Bulut, Turan "will play in Italy with a big club, Milan and Juventus are both interested. Next week, the European Championship is over and we will make everything official.

"Many clubs have contacted us, but his price-tag is pretty high and he only wants to join the best club. Whatever happens, he will play in Italy and for a big club. Juve and Milan are interested, and from Monday we'll be discussing terms. Again, I can say that Turan will be playing in Italy next season."

It seems the Bianconeri are in pole position, as they are willing to offer midfielder Sergio Almiron, along with around 6 million euros. However, first they need to free up a non-EU spot in their squad before they can start to negotiate.

Haven't seen any Turkey matches. Is he really that good? His wiki article compares him to Hagi. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Well, I'm 99% sure we won't get him. And this is just the agent increasing his value. I just like the idea, we're looking at wingers.

If he does end up in Milan, he and Kaka' had better play much ebtter together than they do for Brazil, they were cr@p at the World Cup!
