In my opinion, Ruud van Nistelrooy is the best striker in the World in the last 5 or so years. He can't create goals for himself and very rarely scores from outside the box (Only 1 goal of his 150+ was outside the box for MU). Does this make him a bad player? No.

But yes, he does need a partner. You can't just say that it's an 'excuse', it's not. That's the type of player he is. That's like saying Kaka' is a midfielder, so why don't we play him at DM and see how he does? Everybody has their certain attributes and need a certain system to play in. As proven by Gila and Sheva in recent years. From top players, to bad players, all because they play in the wrong system.

he definitely scores from outside the box. and he definitely sets himself up for goals, if not be taking defenders on by making the perfect passes and getting him in positions for his finishing attempts. ruud and gila should not be compared nor mentioned in the same sentence after this one.

...and its not an excuse..its a statement of fact. i agree with that. he sucks unless he has a strike partner..and even when he does i dont think he scores as much as someone else would while playing in his position. He doesnt have the strength, power, and presence on the ball to be a center forward at a big club. a better player would not only take more of the chances..he could make himself useful and create for others too..AND kaka is an attacker not a defender so of course it wouldnt make sense. GILA is an attacker too, its not like were asking him to play center back next to nesta. were playing him in attack where hes supposed to play..any reason for why he can't handle the role is an excuse, cuz he should..do you honestly in your heart believe the good center forwards at other big clubs would suck this badly if they came to milan? (we do this too much) but do you think didier, ruud, even amari would come onto the team and forget how control a ball?..do you think our management bought gila to come in and play well only when he has a partner to do everything for him? or did we buy him with the hopes he would turn into a ruthless finisher and stand on his own as trezeguet and countless other poachers have..hes been given AMPLE opportunity to show his worth..and hes showing impotence. him being played out of position? hes a striker isnt he?

it bares saying that the frustration you may sense in my tone when reading my post is in no way directed towards you kurt, its definitely all for gilardino..sadly

- and if a player doesnt fit into the system that AC Milan plays..then why should AC Milan change their system for him, especially when he hasnt proven much worth? When we buy players, we don't buy players that fit into certain systems and not others. We buy players that we think will produce..and the players in reality have two paths - produce or not produce. gila has done the latter. We gladly shipped off Amoroso, Boriello, and oliviera and we BARELY gave them a chance. Yet after watching him play this long and not find any HINT of consistent form..we should weigh our options. Sure we could wait and pray for him..or we could realize not every purchase is an amazing one..and make up for it by making a purchase that will count. we gave up on rico after splurging close to 17 mil for him. im missing the logic or reason behind keeping him around this long..if he turns it up and earns his spot then by all means its his and i will cheer for him..but he hasnt earned anything..and i think its fair to say hes been given a lot of time to show it.

I agree with this bit.

Gila had a fantastic first season in Milan. But with the departure of Sheva, Milan changed it's system to accomodate him leaving.

Gila no longer fits into the system and therefore should be sold.

Selling him isn't a priority as much as getting other positions covered. If ambro doesn't play we feel like were left more open as we all know kala is very solid but makes to many goddamn mistakes for nesta to cover. He'll be sold but right now ronaldo will help us out enough. We need to hurry up and get zambrotta, its not even funny how much wee need him.

In the Christmas tree formation Gila doesn't work. You need a top forward in there. There are several players that would fit he bill.

The problem with Milan and we have to face our transfer policy is-
1- They didn't want to break the bank to grab a top forward
-We have Pato- a wise decision again he's young and not a top forward yet.
2- Many of the top forwards didn't want to come- Etoo, Drogba, RVN, and others.
3- Management has a foolish pride in themselves- They would never come and out and
admit that they made a mistake. They have been saying for sometime now all the
dreams. Personally I think we should be proud of winning the champions league but
we are a crappy team at the moment. We need to keep utilizing the Brazilian trio up
top because this is our only shot.

With Gilardino its like buying something that was expensive and rationalizing why you bought it when in the back of your mind you know it is crap.

QUOTE (Rossoneri7 @ Jan 24 2008, 07:11 PM)
Well obviously he isn't a Milan grade striker. After Beirhoff, Inzaghi, and the lesser of them Tomasson (in recent years) ... Gilardino is a drop in quality between them.
Still, he remains a Milan player and the coach and board probably see something we don't. Which inevitably leads to him given chance after chance, this being his third season. That said, I doubt he'll remain at Milan if he doesn't deliver this time around. He has Pato/Ronaldo to partner now (no more excuses left, for those who claim he needs a partner).
Yes he had a great record at Parma and yes he did score goals at Milan. Still, he has yet to reach the expectations that us fans have of him (for three years now .. still waiting (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ).

I believe and cheer on him when he is on the pitch. But rarely does he show anything of merit. Some would like to bring Inzaghi into this, but Inzaghi has given all that he can give to Milan and more !! He is the in-box striker and a legend in my book. There is little to compare between Pippo and Gila. In fact, when Pippo was in Gilardino's age he was explosive, his goal ratio was a goal every 90 mins (mind boggling really).

Anyways, Gilardino's fate rests in the hands of Carlo and Galliani/Braida .. I hope he comes through after such a rough patch. I say this, though I have lost faith in him.

HA urrooting for him to fail it's so obvious. the only reason ur saying this cuz some people on this forum dont hate him (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I agree with Vnata001 .

I truly believe Gila is one of the most incompetent strikers in Italy. I'm the first to say that errors can be made. (Dida , Kaladze , Nesta ... )

BUT , when it comes to controlling a ball or passing a ball to a player Gila fails miserably. And we're talking about basic skills. Watching him screw up a perfect pass makes we wanna pull out my hair.

A striker who depends so much on support is a useless striker too me . I'm so glad we signed Pato. One who doesnt need the excuse of not receiving any balls , or cause he played alone up front , or the grass was slippery ... He's a striker , scoring goals is what he does , thats his job and he does it .

Gila has had so many chances , has been a starter for quite some time now and didnt do anything . Pato has done more in 4 games then Gila this season.

I'm not saying we should sell Gila , but he should be glad to play for a legendary team like Milan , even on the bench . Cause in the end , he just isnt good enough . There are tons of players , better then Gila , younger then Gila , dreaming to play for Milan and dont get the chance . And there you see Gila f*cking up every goddamn time. It's frustrating.
