Carlo Ancelotti tried to look at the positives from tonight’s derby defeat and hasn't ruled Milan out of the Scudetto race.

“We weren’t too bad in the first half, but paid the price for Inter’s superior height in set-pieces, which eventually proved decisive,� he said after the 4-3 loss.


The Rossoneri were 4-1 down when Marco Materazzi was sent off for a second bookable offence – taking his shirt off during the goal celebration.


“After the break we attacked with every man on the field, which was unthinkable at the start when it was a balanced match. Perhaps the referee was a little too quick with the cards in an essentially fair game, but we have to adapt to the new regulations.�


Ancelotti realised the situation was desperate and made all three substitutions at half-time, introducing Alberto Gilardino, Ricardo Oliveira and Paolo Maldini for Pippo Inzaghi, Massimo Ambrosini and Marek Jankulovski.


“I put on an extra striker and the Gilardino-Inzaghi switch was always planned to give us more power upfront and help the midfielders by holding up the ball.�


Milan may have broken through their scoring drought, but the defensive record has been dismal with six goals conceded in two home games against Palermo and Inter.


“We made a mistake on the third goal scored by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but that was the only strike we could’ve avoided. Two were from set-pieces and Dejan Stankovic pulled out a fantastic shot.�


The Scudetto race is all but over now as far as Milan are concerned, as with the eight-point Calciopoli penalty confirmed, they are 14 points adrift of the leaders.


“We have to take it one day at a time,� sighed Ancelotti. “It’s still a long season with many games to be played. I don’t think this defeat was down to a psychological blow with the CONI Arbitration verdicts.�

Who would you sign in January han?

Since that January transfer is always tricky because of players being cup tied and all, I would try to go for these:

Mascherano and Tevez, both are failing big time in the premiership, I think it just doesn't suite them serie A and especially the way Milan plays would suit them perfectly.

Oddo. We still need another RB

Not much to ask I think. Oddo isn't expensive at all, if Silvio is willing to spend 90 million on R10, then 6 million should be very feesable for him.

Mascherano and Tevez are making a mess of it at the premiership and I don't think West Ham really see them as someone of value anymore since they haven't done anything actually good for the team. Plus if Carlo would want to field the xmas tree for any specific reasons these players would actually make it work.
