Milan are set to make a move for Ajax sensation Ryan Babel when the transfer window reopens in January, according to reports.

The 19-year-old forward, who has Surinam origins, is rated highly by former Milan star Marco Van Basten (pictured), who included him in the Netherlands’ squad for the World Cup in Germany.

“Babel has the potential to become the new Thierry Henry,” said the Dutch Coach recently.

Babel is a natural born winger, who could play next to Alberto Gilardino and Filippo Inzaghi and could also be fielded by Coach Carlo Ancelotti as a second striker.

Milan transfer guru Ariedo Braida has long since eyed the youngster and the club seems set to make an offer to Ajax in the attempt to bring Babel to Italy during the January transfer window, although his move may be postponed until the end of the season.

Ajax would be looking to net at least £5m for the player due to his importance to their Eredivisie hopes.

If Babel did make the switch to the peninsula he certainly wouldn’t be the first Ajax star to make the move.

The likes of Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, Patrick Kluivert, Dennis Bergkamp and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have all previously traded life in Holland for a move to Italy.

QUOTE (Rossoneri7 @ Oct 17 2006, 01:24 PM)
It's how much he'll cost the team on the field ..

But our forwards are not performing well now anyway ... He'd be useful in a time like this, I'm not saying he would play when Gila and Kaka would perform miracles !!

QUOTE (Jack Sparrow @ Oct 17 2006, 09:32 PM)
You know R7...I think we should take the risk, I'd rather have someone who is good going barren than not having anyone at all. Besides there's as much chance of Ronnie flopping too, so relatively Sneijder is the safer investment and the proverbial fire under Seedorf's butt.

Well .. Sure .. Everyone of us has hopes that the club would sign a player that we r fond off or see a future in .. Ur right Ronaldinho could flop in the Serie A !! As could Babel, Sneijder, etc .. Maybe even Gourcuff (for all we know..he's yet to be proven) .. The point I'm making is that we dont need to invest, actually we cant afford to invest as this team is (supposedly) ready to go to the top every season with champions on their side (ppl who won the CL, WC, several league titles) .. Rarely do we see young starlets making an impact in Milan .. Look at how Carlo reacted to the reporter when asked if Kaka is a leader; were talking about KAKA here, and he said he still has a lot to learn .. That's what I'm talking about, Milan's players have to be of the HIGHEST calibure, thats why some rush to criticize Gila for the missed chances .. We r used to Shevchenko, Beirhoff, Van Basten, Inzaghi, Massaro, .. Players that when on the field remind you constantly that they are playing for Milan ! And perform accourdingly.

I do understand your enthusiasim of signing someone young (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/king.gif) .. Whether that is for fresher legs or that you admire that player and /or potential. I guess it all comes down to how Carlo plans to play and opts for players that suit his tactics ? Who knows, maybe there will be a change of tactics when other players come in (we dont know who) .. We'll see (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I know what you mean .. give him a shot .. But that is exactly what I stated previouslly, he cant be given a shot against teams like Sampadoria, Inter, Roma, Bayern, Chelsea, Madrid, etc .. He'd be good for Coppa Italia games ( then again thats Inters title (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ) .. I dont know, maybe what I precieve as the reality of the situation is different in ur books ..

But in the end Forza Milan (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/devilsmiley.gif)
