Milan are set to make a move for Ajax sensation Ryan Babel when the transfer window reopens in January, according to reports.

The 19-year-old forward, who has Surinam origins, is rated highly by former Milan star Marco Van Basten (pictured), who included him in the Netherlands’ squad for the World Cup in Germany.

“Babel has the potential to become the new Thierry Henry,” said the Dutch Coach recently.

Babel is a natural born winger, who could play next to Alberto Gilardino and Filippo Inzaghi and could also be fielded by Coach Carlo Ancelotti as a second striker.

Milan transfer guru Ariedo Braida has long since eyed the youngster and the club seems set to make an offer to Ajax in the attempt to bring Babel to Italy during the January transfer window, although his move may be postponed until the end of the season.

Ajax would be looking to net at least £5m for the player due to his importance to their Eredivisie hopes.

If Babel did make the switch to the peninsula he certainly wouldn’t be the first Ajax star to make the move.

The likes of Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, Patrick Kluivert, Dennis Bergkamp and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have all previously traded life in Holland for a move to Italy.

The type of player that suits Barca, Arsenal, Lyon, Roma, etc .. But to bring him to Milan is a bit far fetched ..

In 2-3 years time he could be playing for one of those big clubs you just mentioned and we wouldn't have a prayer's chance in hell of getting him over without paying a small fortune. No, if we are buying him coz he has potential, get him now.

Why Babel when you have Kaka, Gilardino, Oliviera, (hopefully they'll start scoring), and (.. Ronaldinho ) ?!

Even if he goes to those clubs, what should stop Milan from getting him then ?

I stated those clubs specifically, as they are not on the level of Milan; from a financial point of view and that of a 6 time Euro champions .. If you put those clubs together they wont even beat the record Milan has .. Hence they have no game when a player is comparing between us and them (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Plus, its too early for him to play for Milan .. I mean we are a World class team .. We cant give try-outs every now and then .. If we need someone to fill in a gap, then we bring in players like Favalli, Vogel, Daharoso, Comandini (cant remember how long he stayed), etc.. We dont look to invest ..

Look at it this way, those teams take 4-5 seasons to build a team capable of retaining silverware .. Why ? Because they dont have economical leverage to match us or Man U or Madrid ... So they snatch young players (as Arsenal do), they try to sign young talents (Anderson for Barca) .. But after they build that team; they will flurish for 4-5 seasons then fade away for a while till there next patch of talents pop up.

But when you talk about Milan, you are talking about a whole different ball park .. We have the money, we have the heritage, and we have the ambition every season to go for gold in two competitions .. No other team shares our ambitions (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
With that said, how can Babel compete for a place in a team fully loaded and ready to go?
