Milan are set to make a move for Ajax sensation Ryan Babel when the transfer window reopens in January, according to reports.

The 19-year-old forward, who has Surinam origins, is rated highly by former Milan star Marco Van Basten (pictured), who included him in the Netherlands’ squad for the World Cup in Germany.

“Babel has the potential to become the new Thierry Henry,” said the Dutch Coach recently.

Babel is a natural born winger, who could play next to Alberto Gilardino and Filippo Inzaghi and could also be fielded by Coach Carlo Ancelotti as a second striker.

Milan transfer guru Ariedo Braida has long since eyed the youngster and the club seems set to make an offer to Ajax in the attempt to bring Babel to Italy during the January transfer window, although his move may be postponed until the end of the season.

Ajax would be looking to net at least £5m for the player due to his importance to their Eredivisie hopes.

If Babel did make the switch to the peninsula he certainly wouldn’t be the first Ajax star to make the move.

The likes of Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, Patrick Kluivert, Dennis Bergkamp and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have all previously traded life in Holland for a move to Italy.

QUOTE (Portugal @ Oct 16 2006, 01:21 PM)
He's too young... still from what I've seen, no Milan quality.

Then who is Milan quality. Right now, we should take what we can get, and from what I've seen from this kid, I really like him. He woud definately fit in more then Sneijder since we already got 2 attacking midfielders, and one of them simply can't be touched and taken off the starting 11

At this point we are going to be linked to everybody.

I read another one in tribal football that stated we are bidding for Ronaldo again.

Babel is another name like Sobis or anybody we'll be associated with.

1- If we need an immediate solution to our striker situation
-We need a super star who can come immediately

2- If we want a more long term solution
  -Get Babel and youth

Right now he has 6 goals in 9 games(through all competitions)

We should get him. We need to start looking to the future. We only have 3 strikers(really 2) and alot of money. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain in our poor offense.

What makes you so sure that if we get a start he will fit in emmediately and make an instant impact??

Case in point is the Sheva situation at Chelsea, one of the top 3 strikers in the world and loom at him, he's been petathic lately.
Trying to get a star doesn't always work and secondly it would be much more easy to get someone that is really promising and could turn out into a diamond in the future because he learn how to gel with the team while he's young and still eager, secondly all the hassle and trouble they would have to go to to get someone with a big name not to mention all the money.

I don't think that it would be that feasable
