Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and love the Transfer Campaign

“We do not have a transfer kitty stashed away here. Despite failing to qualify for the Champions League, the club is strengthening the squad and increasing the wages. This means we’ll be £35m in the red without Berlusconi’s help.

“The fans should be happy, as all we’d need to do in order to wipe out or debts is sell Kaka and Andrea Pirlo. Instead they won’t move, so if that’s not a show of love for this side, I don’t know what is.

“It is incredible that the supporters are not celebrating the arrival of Marco Borriello, who scored 19 goals last season, the fact Alexandre Pato can finally play a full campaign, Mathieu Flamini from Arsenal and World Cup winner Gianluca Zambrotta.

“As a fan, I too hope something else will happen, but Milan have already reinforced their squad.”

The above quote is what Galliani said in response to the petition asking Berlusconi to sell the club. He can't make it any clearer than this.

The club does NOT want to be in debt. They don't want to find themselves in the same ****hole as most of the other big clubs. And they gotta do what they gotta do. We're a big club with limited transfer funds.

For this, I'm grateful for the transfers we already made. And I think Milan will keep fighting until they get their finances straight again. Can we win the Scudetto with this squad? Most likely not. But things will get better.

Now do I believe Galliani should be sacked? Probably yes. We need someone like Leonardo IN CHARGE of our transfers, not just as a scout. Galliani dropped the ball one too many times... And he has a thing for injury-prone oldies while Leonardo is into youth.

But should Berlusconi sell the club? That depends on him, and he seems to want to hold on and he might just have a reason. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

QUOTE (mishie @ Jul 6 2008, 03:36 PM)
It's a sign of the times (not meaning specific people on this forum i mean in general)when a club that takes a sensible approach and has the long term future in mind gets slagged off....in some instantiates i can see where Galliani is coming from no big pots of money so why not be sensible, yes we have new players..as many as we would like...no  but this is a rebuilding period and to many player introduced at the same time would cause a unbalance so even if we had the money mass buying of players is never a good idea imo. this team will compete for Serie A maybe next season not this but hope springs eternal and you never know what can happen!

True, but why promise fans that Milan will buy a world class attacker when they really had no intention of spending any money on him.

Why does Galliani talk about R10's, Eto'o's, etc wages? Any world class player will demand a high salary and unless he's out of contract with his current club then there is no way that they will let him go for free. I just find Galliani's excuses and reasons as to why they can't buy a player that they've already promised the fans more then irritating, and I think that is why the fans are complaining, because they are being constantly lied to

I mean, if you're not sure of something or think that it could be something out of the club's current reach then why promise it? Either act on what you say or just don't say anything in the first place

Exactly. he starts each transfer window by promising world class player but in the end... none of those big names arrive.

At the end he says we have Pato from start of the season and we never disappointed our fans in the transfer market!
