There have been plenty of mixed messages come from all parties involved in respect to whether the Ivorian striker will trade Stamford Bridge for the San Siro this summer, but a passage taken from his recently released autobiography would appear to make it something of a forgone conclusion.
"All footballers dream of signing for AC Milan," he wrote, before revealing that in 2006, he secretly traveled by private jet to meet with Milan royalty Paolo Maldini and Adrian Galliani.
"I explained to Paolo Maldini that Milan is a club I would love to join."
Galliani then allegedly asked him pointblank when he would like to play for Milan, to which he responded: "Whenever you want, it's all up to you. Get the money ready and go see Chelsea."
The Rossoneri VP was on the phone with an offer to Chelsea the very next day, according to Drogba, who also revealed how Mourinho reacted to him.
"'OK, seeing as we are not kids we are going to talk," he quoted the Portuguese coach as saying to him.
"I trusted you - I've done everything for you and there you are telling me you're going to the dentist in Paris when in fact you're in Milan talking over your transfer.
"You lied to me. You didn't keep your word. Have you been badly brought up or what?"
Having made the shocking admission, Drogba went on to insist that the coquetry had no adverse affect on his form, as he went on to score 34 goals that season for Chelsea.
All things considered, Chelsea’s title-decider against Bolton Wanderers last weekend could very well have been Drogba's last for the Blues in the Premier League. According to the Mirror, Chelsea's most prolific striker has agreed to sign a three-year contract and link up again Mourinho, who is said to be lined up as Carlo Ancelotti's replacement at the San Siro.
If it was his last league game, it obviously wasn't one he'll remember very fondly, as Chelsea contrived to let in a late equalizer again at Stamford Bridge to compound Manchester United title-sealing victory at Watford.
"Losing those eight points has been massive for us," said Drogba, of the wins they threw away at home to Aston Villa, Everton and Wigan.
"It is far too many for us to lay claim to being champions. It is certainly proof of too much complacency and a lack of concentration on our part," he added.
"Each time we had the result in our hands but sometimes we mentally finish games before the final whistle.
"Manchester United deserved their title. They have been rewarded for their consistency. We have made too many mistakes, including on Sunday when we let Bolton equalise 30 seconds before the end of added time."
