This will be a big opportunity for us to get 3 points while other top teams will be facing each other (Inter v Fiorentina, Napoli v Juve) and also before facing Napoli next week. So this is a must win for us.

2 away games on the bounce as well, so it won't be easy

Yea,a must win for us.My only fear is the inconsistency in our team especially in defence.
BTW: plz, is Antonelli injured or wot?...I wouldn't mind if abiatti gets the nod 4this game

I also think d midfield of last game shouldn't b changed bt Honda should sit this one out, suso shld get d nod instead.
Will stick with balo and bacca pairing in attack.

Diego Lopez; Calabria, Zapata, Romagnoli, De Sciglio; De Jong, Montolivo, Bertolacci; Bonaventura; Balotelli, Luiz Adriano.

I'd rather have De Jong as anchor and Montolivo as CM. De Jong as CM is very one-dimensional. At least as holding mid he can provide good cover to our defense.

I think you have to look at the De Jong-Monto issue in a different way

Technically speaking he's playing in the position that a CM occupies, true, but the role he's playing is different. De Jong in the centre simply stifles the entire flow of our midfield imo. I think we've seen him play there enough to be pretty familiar with this.

Switching Monto and him around imo gives us the added benefit of someone who can put his foot on the ball in the centre of midfield and direct the game (sort of since Monto isn't really all that great at it but much better than any of the others in our midfield). Plus by playing both of them in this way, we still have the physical aspects of De Jong's game and his ball winning skills while also having Monto in there who helps our midfield flow better.

Also great to see that Honda is finally benched

Any word on Mexes and if he's fit? I really do think we need a leader in there. Our defence holds stable as long as there's no pressure but once the opposition apply even a pin-prick of it, we simply open the flood gates

btw Genoa will be missing several players mainly due to injury and suspension...and we have taken all their good players (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

so it's up to us to grab the game honestly.

Tough start so far, we are back to playing terrible, that midfield can't keep the ball for two passes. Its pathetic. Gotta say though I usually don't comment on the officiating, but to me Tagliavento is calling this one all one way. I don't know what Pavoletti needs to do to get a yellow.

I'm surprised you still jump at those Han, to me it's just a matter of time before we get one of those signature Zapata plays.

What a great gift from Zapata, he has become this year's Bonera. Harsh red for Romagnoli. You would think a coach who was himself a defender would be able to at least drill this team defensively. It reminds me of the period when we were playing with two defensive midfielders and were getting decimated defensively.

This one's wrapped up, a goal down, a man down, and playing terrible, and this one's cooked. Glad I woke up early for this one.

Yes, let's blame Zapata. Momtolivo has lost the ball twice just like him yet nobody mentions it.

It's stupid to go and blame this loss on individuals. Let's just admit that we suck @ss and get over with it.

I would also like to think that a man who was a defender himself could see the destructive flaws in his players and not rely on them to the point where they are made undisputed starters.

Also why Ely? Alex would have been the easy and logical choice here considering the generous mood Zapata is in.

And WTF is up with Mexes? Is he still injured? Wasn't he supposed to be training with the team again?

We couldn't connect two passes BEFORE the red, how is the team supposed to develop offensive rhythm a man down. Bertolacci and DJ added nothing to that midfield today, it's time to hit up the Primavera to find a midfielder as no one on the roster can help this situation.

Yes, let's ignore the 2 times that Zapata literally gave the ball away right in front of our penalty area.

You can say we suck all you want but that suckage is not aided by the likes of Zapata being a liability to the team, Monto misplaced a couple of passes, just like the rest of the players but his misplaced passes did not directly lead to goal scoring opportunities, which both of Zapata's errors did, one of which got his team mate sent off

Indeed. The midfield trio was our main flaw today. De Jong and Bertolacci add absolutely NOTHING to our game, whereas Monto looks tired as sh*t. No wonder Genoa presses up high so easily and our defenders being average at best cannot cope with it.

De Jong is being used as a mezalla when he should be used as a destroyer.

Bertolacci is just absent and terrible, as he has been from the start of the season.

I'd bring on Kucks and Bacca at this point and just give it our best shot, it's not like we have anything to lose

Same difference. Everyone's been bad. How about we say Romagnoli shouldn't have raised his elbow like that knowing he was already booked? That's an even bigger fuckup than Zapata's pass.

Both his yellows were harsh and any other day he probably wouldn't have gotten either.

Zapata made 2 unforced (which is the big issue here, he wasn't even under any pressure when he lost the ball either time) errors which one of them has but us in the position we're in now. Simple as that

Defend him all you like but he is a liability, one that puts us under even greater pressure than we're already in simply because we don't have a midfield capable of controlling the game, that is why we need strong, and assured players at the back, because they'll be put under pressure at times, and Zapata is simply adding to that problem by inviting pressure on himself when he loses the ball like that

You act as if this is the first time he's done this. Please refer to the thread that I made and I posted other great examples of his f@ck ups there

His second yellow was not harsh. Not only he interrupted a very dangerous counter attack, but he raised his elbow over the opponent's face. The moment it happened I was certain he was going to get booked.

And I'm not defending Zapata. He's been bad, but blaming it all on him when everyone's been just as bad is uncalled for. He's an easy target and people are pissed we're losing, so they all start jumping on his back.

His first was, and so was his second considering he was already on one. As I said, on any other day, he wouldn't have been carded for both

I'm not blaming it all on him, I have acknowledged that we're bad, but having players making the types of mistakes he does is certainly not helping our cause.

He's a liability plain and simple, one we cannot afford to have in the team when we're already not that good

I really think Zapata has been the main culprit here. Sure, Berto and de Jong looked bad, Monto made a few wrongs. But Zapata gave away the crucial pass, completely unforced or pressured, whereas Monto lost the ball under pressure by 2 Genoa players.

I'd play the slow and unfit Alex over someone who's going to literally hand chances to our opponents. I don't understand the dilemma here.

Zapata makes mistakes that lead to goal opportunities to the opposition. I don't care how fast he is, that simply shouldn't fly. For anyone!
