QUOTE
Marco Materazzi has finally broken his silence to reveal the exact phrase that prompted Zinedine Zidane to head butt him in the World Cup Final.

The two men have always been cagey about what was said that day in Berlin on July 9 2006, although Zizou had hinted it was an insult to the women in his family.

Over a year later, Materazzi has confessed the precise words that ended the Frenchman’s career in disgrace.

The players were tugging each other’s shirts during a set-piece in the Italian penalty area when Zidane turned to Materazzi and said “If you really want my shirt, you can have it after the match.”

At this point Matrix admits he responded by saying: “I’d prefer your slut of a sister.”

Zidane took a few more paces, turned and head butted the defender in the chest, prompting his dismissal.

The revelation came in an interview with Italian magazine ‘TV Sorrisi e Canzoni’ and ends months of speculation.

At first there had been suggestions there were racist elements to his comment, but it seems to have been more basic trash-talk on the field of play.

It still earned Materazzi a two-match ban from FIFA for “provocation”, just one less than his aggressor Zidane’s three-match suspension.

“I tried to learn from my mistakes,” added the Inter star. “I have stepped over the line in the past and I apologised for that. I have matured.”

The question marks over what exactly was said even prompted a joke book written along with Materazzi and all the proceeds are going to charity.

Football Italia

SO there u have it, if I was Zidane would have kept kicking him while he was on the ground until I break his ribs !

Far worse things have been said on a football pitch, Zidane shouldn't have reacted bit of a shame to end a brilliant career like that.

I'm not sure if R7s ever heard of Ian Wright, he's probably been blinded by the magical light of other things. But he admitted he'd insult players families on a regular basis, it happens in EVERY game, some people obviously can't take it sometimes.

If he actually knows anything about football, being kicked and insulted is part of the game nowadays.

Yep. It's the last 20 min of the WC final for god sake! Insult him back or wait until the end of the game to kick his ***. It's not like Zidane don't know what's football can be sometimes.

If I were Zidane I'd have done exactly that, insulted him back or made a stupid tackle for a yellow card, then rub it in his if they did manage to win the World Cup.

Me!

That said, yeah....what Materazzi said was basically a playground taunt. Shocking that Zidane reacted to something like that from a guy who's known to be a wind up merchant.

Regardless of how much I like him, I certainly would head-butt somebody that's 10 foot tall and could end me. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Exactly .. Whatever Zidane's alibi was on that night, it was his fault. But that doesn't erase such a glorious career !

I admit that I like Zidane and regard him as one of the best players to ever play the game ... But he isn't waiting for any recognition from me (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) And neither is he waiting for any criticisim from some members of this forum. He has his name written in history (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/king.gif)

Matrix probably said something like that houndred times to opposite players, but non of them reacted like that coz players know these kind of provocations.

I'm also sure that Zidan knows these things too, but that was a World Cup final and all you need is ONE SINGLE MOMENT of craziness and thats it!

Didn't know "shut" was a cuss word (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) should I be censoring all the words I'm saying now too? (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
