Look at all the coincidences that have come up between now and when we last won a CL.
1. The CL final is going to be played in Athens, And we won it in 94 when it was also staged in Athens.
2. We have to go through the 3rd qualifying round to get to the CL, just like in 02/03.
3. It's a world cup year just like in the 62/63, 89/90, 93/94 and 02/03 competitions.
4. The first goal scored in our 02/03 campain was an Inzaghi goal
5. Our first game of the 02/03 campain was won 1-0 and the first leg was also played at home.
6. The year before our win in 02/03 a spanish club won the CL (Real Madrid), this time the current holders are Barca.
I don't want to jinx anything by posting this, maybe it's just all bull and we won't even make it into the competition at all this year, but after the WC and all the other coincidences that happened with Italy, ie. the match fixing scandals back home, the 1-1 draw friendly with switzerland just like in 82, that every 12 years Italy reach the final and once they win it the other time they lose it myth, and all the other coincedences, I'm starting to believe that they do mean something.
And considering the hell they put us through to let us play in the competition, and the big hurdle we overcame with the trail and our name being dragged though the mud and all I just have this feeling that this just might be our year.
So let's see if there is a reason for all these coincidences or as I said before this is all just crap and I wasted 15 minutes of my life writing this for nothing, but I just have this feeling that this is our year, just like the feeling that I had with Italy

Well, I can't say I'm a massive believer in those kind of similarity things, as interesting and intriguing as they often are. I might be compelled to agree, if I didnt have the feeling myself that this year will be an early exit for us from the tournament.
We have enjoyed many successful seasons of late in the CL, but if anyone thought last year was 'a bridge too far' so to speak for our ageing team, then this year, minus the reliable Sheva, and as yet, barring a proper replacement, I don't think we pose much of a threat.
Contrariwise, it seems that the Spanish teams may be plundering the silverware this season to me. Real have got their act together after a few laughable seasons and, from Capello to his new signings, look more potent than anyone. Barca have also reinforced thier weaker aspect, the defence, to leave the 2 Spanish giants well placed.
I wish, truly wish so much, that you are right, and that we win the CL this season. Sure, its always nice to, but in Maldini, and especially Costacurta's final season, I would give so much for us to secure the trophy this year over any other in the forseeable future. A perfect send-off, 5 winners medals etc.
I truly hope I am proved wrong, and you right, my friend.

You're totally right, especially on how we have weakened especially in the defensive area and we have no Sheva left, and also the spanish teams do seem to be leading the race along with Chelsea for the big silverware this season, but look at the 93/94 CL win, wheren't Barca supposed to be Cruyff's "dream team" and we where the heavy underdogs in that final, and also with no Van Basten, but look what happened. Maybe you're right and this is all just wishful thinking on my part, but our team is not going to remain the way it is, that I'm sure of ie. the present signing for Milan fans that Braida spoke of (i'm only hoping that this present coming from the Milan management isn't Ibra). And I'm still expecting them to sign atleast one defender, maybe a CB, seeing as Cufu has proved us wrong tonight, (hope that he will be able to keep it up for the whole season, even if it is very unlikely at his age) I'm usually not a big believer in these thing myself but after the WC and all the coincidences that where with Italy aswell, I've sort of changed the way I think about things. So let's hope these things turn out to have a meaning, because I also would love to see Billy and Maldini get the send off they deserve. And also stick it a bit to Sheva for leaving us and make him see what he missed out on, because some Chelsea players seem like they are expecting the CL to be won by them the way they are speaking to the media so arrogantly, I hope that it comes back to bite them in the @ss

QUOTE (Portugal @ Aug 10 2006, 02:21 AM) Good topic han2503. Well, it's difficult for me to believe we'll be euro-champs this season. Specially when there's still 20 days till the transfers-market close. If we get some good adds for the defence, but specially a good foward, I believe we'll have chances. Top 4 next CL: Milan (if Braida works good till the end of the month), Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid. Totally right, I just hope they don't take the cheap root especially when looking at our defense, we don't have Maldini and Billy to rely on everytime we need them anymore like before and we definately need to make at least 2 new signings in defence and get the Sheva replacement, and right know I don't care if it's Ibra, torres or Tevez as long as we get that type of striker, I'll be happy. And definatley those 3 you mentioned will be the favourites for this year, and after the transfer market is closed we will see where we stand with those

What a way to end their respective legendary stories .. But for us to go for top honers we need to bring in the best to compete with the best from the likes of Madrid, Barca, Chelsea, etc.. Not withstanding the fact that it has been two yrs since we last won anything, although to me Milan won a lot in those two yr : closing the gap on Juve took guts .. being #1 in UEFA merits us as the best. All we need to do is live up to our expectations (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Hi han2503, I'm on vacation!!!
Real???? hmm ... they might flop but I'm not so sure ... Capello's way is so cynical. All I know is that they will be as "unwatchable" as Chelski and Liverpoor are!!!

Hope you're having fun Yeah and you're right about the unwatchable part, Cappella makes he team play a special blend of football, the type that would make you jam something sharp in your eye. Still I'm not convinced anymore by Cappella, look at last year with Juve, how they where barely hanging on to draws against Trviso and Cagliari and they where being helped by the refs, and he is no specialast in the 2 leeged games of the CL that's for sure. We'll just have to wait and see how Real fare with him, I know for sure that they will start their season strongly, wether they can keep that disciplan up till the end is the big question.

Hmm, I am still a massive admirer of Capello. Most of all, he cans till cut it, he gets results everywhere. Here at Milan, remeber, Athens itself in 94 was the scene of our 4-0 hammering of Barca. He won the SPanish league, even took Roma to Serie A. I still think he is the best manager in the world. Just as real looked to be sliding off the side of the European mountain, they found a foothold. Since then, Capello has already steadied them up and prepared them well for resuming their ascent of the summit with all his exclelent signings.
I reckon he'll win either the CL or La Liga. hopefully its La Liga. And one day, I hope he returns here. I only wish they'd given him the England job!

Yes I remember the 4-0 trashing, who could forget, but you have to admit that he isn't what he used to be during his Milan days. If I would have to put money on it I think he would win La Liga and not the CL, he knows how to begin a season with full gear and not lose once, it's at the end when he sometimes loses it, like last season, Juve where in shambles. Plus Barca don't usually start the season that good so I think he will get a grip on the title in the begining of the season, but I'm sure he won't win his head to heads with Barca because Rijkaard will out smart him everytime, just like Carlo did with us when we played Juve, and the reason why this will happen is because he hasn't got any fresh ideas, it's always the same 4-4-2 and the same tactics, he has already hinted that he will be playing that formation next year. And we've seen what he has been doing in the CL KO rounds. Juve have twice been humiliated by English teams who are supposedly inferior to Juve, I just don't see him winning the CL again
