I'm hungry. Need the some official match as soon as possible. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Gonna play the winner of the leg: Red Star Belgrade - Cork City (The 2nd leg is next Wednesday and it's 1-0 for Red Star, and they play at home the 2nd match. So we'll probably going to Belgrade...)

First leg will be played on 8/9 August in San Siro and the second one on 22/23th.

Let the party begin!

PS: I hope some MOD change the Topic Title soon, putting the right things, when the confirmation come out.

I hope we don't jinx this by opening this thread before UEFA even accepted us into the CL. Remember we aren't sure we are even going to be in it

True. But, we all hope so. Would be a shame for the nº1 in UEFA ranking not to be in the CL... (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Apparently 4 defenders are going to miss the first leg (Nesta, Maldini, Cafu, Bonera!), so 100% focus is going to be needed. I'm guessing we'll line up something like this at the back...

Dida

Simic - Billy - Kaladze - Favalli

Should be interesting!

Well if Billy could keep a clean sheet against Barca, I guess he could hold on for another 90 mins .. although another defender should be brought in other than Bonera

I also though Kaladze was going to be out, that's why Carlo said he would use Favalli in the centre.

Man if we are going to sign another defender we better work fast

Yes, he's out too, along with Nesta, Maldini, Cafu and Bonera, like m1ke stated before. Ancelotti said he will try Brocchi on the right and Favalli as centreback. So it should be something like this:

-------------------Dida----------------------

Brocchi--Costacurta--Favalli--Serghino

Ah, forgot about Kaladze! I'd rather play Simic at right back than Brocchi.

Totally right

X-offender said that he didn't impress at right back, and Favalli was surprisingly good in the middle, so I would use your back line for this match

Why not Janku as LB? He is more defensive than Serginho and considering Favalli is not that great of a defender, I think we should really think about it.
BTW, the average age of that backline is 35... (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

I'm Utterly confused: Is it Crvena Zvezda or Red Star Belgrade?????
Anyway here's my starting lineup:
---------------Dida---------------------
-Simic--Billy---Kaladze--Serginho---
-------Gatusso©----Vogel-------------
----Kaka------Gourcuff----Janku-----
------------Gilardino-------------
*

Kaladze is not availble...
What happened to him anyways? Anyone know anything?

Ah, forgot about Kaladze! I'd rather play Simic at right back than Brocchi.

Simic - Billy - Favalli - Serginho

That is a very worrying backline, why oh why didn't we sign a decent defender because we are now gambling with our CL future.

The backline is probably going to look like it did yesterday against Lecco.
This means that Milan will play like this.

Brocchi-Costacurta-Favalli-Jankulovski

I am getting a bit worried. This backline is horrible. All those four should be sitting at the bench, well mabe not Janku but he is close.

A little history from acmilan.com

ALL ABOUT FC RED STAR BELGRADE
8/3/2006 3:19:00 PM
Fudbalski klub Crvena zvezda – FC Red Star Belgrade

The club was founded in 1945 and their uniform is comprised of a red and white striped jersey, red shorts and red socks.

Trophies: 24 State Championships, 21 National Cups, 1 European Cup, 1 Intercontinental Cup.

Red Star's city rival is FK Partizan. The Serbian league starts on Saturday and their first game is at home against Voždovac Belgrade.

President: Dragan Stojkovic.

Coach: Dusan Bajevic.

Red Star eliminated Cork City to qualify for the third preliminary round. Score: Cork City-Stella Rossa 0-1 (1 goal Behan), Stella Rossa-Cork City 0-3 (Milovanovic, Zigic 2 goals). Lineup (4-4-2): Randjelovic; Pantic, Bisevac, Joksimovic, Basta; Perovic, Jankovic, Kovacevic, Milovanovic; Georgiev, Zigic.

Red Star has played against an Italian team 19 times: with 3 victories for the Biancorossi, 6 ties and 10 Italian victories.

Red Star has played Milan once: in 1988 when Arrigo Sacchi won his first European Cup, they met in the final-sixteen, first leg in Milan (1-1), then second leg in Belgrade where the game was suspended due to fog, an amazing shot by Van Basten was cancelled in the rescheduled game and after 120’ with the result still 1-1 they went into a penalty shootout, in which Rossoneri hero Giovanni Galli scored the winning goal.

Man I can't see us playing with that defense, they where messing up too much in that friendly, our midfield and attack are fine, I think that if Gila would try and do more work in his dribbling and shooting skills I think that he could do something similar to what Sheva did, yesterday he was playing that role and I thought he did really well his passes and through passes where all precise for Pippo that gave him to clear chances to score. All he really needs to work on is shooting from distance and I think he could work much better next to Pippo

That's what I'm hoping for too! I think he will surprise us this season! Forza Gila! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/devil.gif)
And as for the defence... I really think we should play with a lone striker... and two defensive midfielders! That would make us more defensive. Just a thought.

I think so too, we definately shouldn't go on an all out attack, I think red star will play very defensive like what PSV did last yer against us in the group stage we had a million shots and the ball was constantly at our feet but they basically played with 11 players in the box, so we shouldn't attack much because we might get caught on the counter and looking at the old legs inm our defense I can see us conceede if this happens.

We should start off coshiously and see what they will do, then try and play our game, hopefully we will keep a clean sheet and score atleast 2 goals

Red Star sounds like a pretty sacry team... Like one of those teams that play with their heart and give their all... Those kind of teams usually give us a really hard time and we occasionally lose a couple players due to injuries in such delicate games... I really hope Costacurta can make us proud. He is still a very reliable defender. His only problem? Definitely his speed. At 40, I can't expect more from him... And Favalli? Gosh... i don't know what to say about him. I just hope he doesn't **** up tomorrow... Otherwise I will be very mad. Imagine losing the game because Favalli, our new great siging made a little booboo... (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Really hope Cralo can pull things together and show everyone how powerful we are even without much training! Forza Rossoneri!

From what I heard about them, they are definately that type of team, especially when playing at home, and they apperantly have a pretty good attacker (zigic is his name I think) that likes to put a lot of pressure on the defense so , Billy and Favalli better do better then they did in the friendly, hopefully they will get to prepare better in the next few days.

I,ve got to say though that Favalli wasn't half as bad as I thought as he would be, still nothing to brag about but he was solid enough, but considering the cr@ppy team we where playing yesterday, we can't really say how he will do tomorrow, I really wish that atleast Kaladze could have been available

Yes, Favalli did pretty good, was very solid. But like you said, we were playing against Lecco, Serie C2 team. Against Red Star we should be very concetrated, put a lot of preassure and play the ball as fast as we can. And one other thing, Brocchi should be replaced by Simic. The right back isn't his position, definitely. (Now don't tell me Simic isn't availabe, too (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) )

Forza Stella Rossa!!! Even though Milan is a huge favorite against us, we still have a chance. If we get a tie or are down by one after first game, you never know what can happen in Belgrade(just ask Roma from las year).
If you win and you go to CL you should know that us Red Star fans will be cheering for you.
A lot of Red Star fans like AC Milan a lot since our Dejan Savicevic played for you and brought you a lot of joy and Europian title right after he got one for us in 1991 in Bari.
Good luck and see you in Milan. (North side gate 45 and 46)

Welcome ljuba1 - enjoy the game(s)!

Ignoring what Carlo has already said, don't you think this game would suit the Xmas tree better? We've got the extra midfielders to make it work and we're a bit short up front at the moment - it makes sense to me. Plus it will allow us to play posession football against Red Star which is exactly what we need to do in order to get the result - quick tempo stuff won't work because they're about 4 weeks ahead of us in terms of fitness.

Yes that is an option, since they are very well prepared. But I think the best defence is to attack (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Name: Nikola Žigić

Nationality: Serbia
Birth Date: 25.09.1980

The 202 cm tall striker from Crvena Zvezda scored 16 goals in the national championship and further 6 goals in the UEFA Cup in the year 2005. Overall he scored a total of 55 goals in 77 matches for Zvezda in only 2 years, which is an outstanding record. Of course, Zigic’s reputation got a boost, after scoring 3 goals for the national team in the year 2005. Above that he prepared two of the most important Kezman goals against Bosnia and Spain with his head during the 2006 World Cup qualifiers, becoming a key player in Ilija Petkovic’s team and a serious threat to defenders across Europe. In January 2006 he became target of almost every prestigious club in Europe, but he will most probably stay at Zvezda

Done some research on Red Star Belgrade ..

That's one of Red Star's forwards, he is what we should watch out for .. He is their Kaka, in simple terms ie.

Yes Zigic is really good, but we also have 2 other strickers Djokic and Purovic, but biggest addition is Bulgarian star Blago Georgiev who is a great middfielder and also stoper from Senegal Ibrahim Gaeye who just signed for Red Star.
If this was played later this year AC Milan would be favorite 80:20, but now I thhink margine is much smaller.
By the way, thank you for welcoming me Rosoneri.

Well, I don't know about the margins getting smaller .. It's the mind set that the players have to get into.

I know that Milan defies the odds time and time again, so you'll never know where Inzaghi might pop out from (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/devil.gif)

QUOTE (m1ke @ Aug 4 2006, 08:35 PM)
Welcome ljuba1 - enjoy the game(s)!

Ignoring what Carlo has already said, don't you think this game would suit the Xmas tree better? We've got the extra midfielders to make it work and we're a bit short up front at the moment - it makes sense to me. Plus it will allow us to play posession football against Red Star which is exactly what we need to do in order to get the result - quick tempo stuff won't work because they're about 4 weeks ahead of us in terms of fitness.
*

Totally agree with you, plus with a more solid midfield our VERY fragile defense won't be put on as much pressure as it would be with the 4-3-1-2 formation.

I think our formation should be something like this

----------------Dida------------------
Brocchi--Billy--Favalli--Janku/Serg
------Gattuso---Pirlo---Ambro------
---------Gourcuff---Seedorf---------
---------------Pippo/Gila-------------

This way 2 defensive midfielders will be covering our defense and giving Pirlo more freedom. Kaka is training on his own right now and Carlo said he wouldn't be available at least not for the first match, so I put Gourcuff next to Seedorf considering how well they seem to work together.

Pippo would be my first option here because if Gila's luck in the CL hasn't changed at all from last year, I wouldn't try to risk it

Galliani said that he would play and as I said here ^^^ I think it's to shut Real up for good, because once he sets foot on the ground in a CL game Real can't play him in their CL games if he goes there

I prefer not to watch any chelsea games, can't stand the site of him in that shirt (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/puke.gif) and even though I know you're a big fan of his rossoneri7, but when I watch him I still feel a bit betrayed by him, I don't know why I still feel that way but I do.

Totally right, we are Milan we shouldn't want a player to play in our shirt but a player should want and feel honoured to put on such a prestigous shirt

All Milan need to do is include Kaka in the list they supply to UEFA for who is eligable to play .. And he will be commited to Milan for CL or UEFA till the end of the season.

So even if he doesnt play, he would already be cup tied (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Once the list is sent to UEFA, they don't care who plays .. eg. Ashley Coles name wasn't on the list for UEFA ... and so he would be eligible to play for Chelsea if he transfers.

But Kaka, since his name is on that list, wether he plays or not is not important, if he goes to Real Madrid, he wont participate in CL w/ them..

Ok here we go. Some news that at least i feel comfortable with. The defence doesn´t look as bad as it was suppose to according to the Gazzetta. We were suppose to play with Brocchi-Costacurta-Favalli-Jankulovski but now it has changed a lot and I feel a lot happier. Here is the team tonight according to the Gazzetta.
