First match of the season, played against an old rival. Must win; let's hope to avoid last seasons horror start.

QUOTE
The Mayor of Verona caused controversy by telling Mario Balotelli he shouldn’t “provoke” if he wants to avoid racist abuse.

Flavio Tosi, who is a member of the anti-immigration Lega Nord party, made the comments ahead of Saturday’s Serie A opener Hellas Verona-Milan.

There are fears of racist incidents, as the Verona fans have been punished for this behaviour in the past.

“Will I reassure Balotelli about coming to Verona? There are two aspects here,” noted Tosi on Radio Sportiva.

“One is the fans, the other is the club that has always worked hard to improve the behaviour of the fans other than those four idiots. If someone acts like a cretin, he’ll be in the minority.

“However, if Balotelli provoked people a bit less, then it would be even better. There are many black players, but not all of them stoke the ire of the opposition fans. Most have no problems. Balotelli is very good at making himself unlikeable.”

The comments from the Mayor of Verona come after Lazio ultras released a statement explaining their monkey noises at black Juventus players were “not racist.”

Lazio have been forced to close down the Curva Nord for their next home game as punishment for the jeering during the Italian Super Cup.

Although the Biancocelesti ultras insist their behaviour is not racist, they have agreed to stop making the noises “to silence the hypocrites.”

Squad: Abbiati, Amelia, Coppola; Abate, Constant, De Sciglio, Mexes, Silvestre, Zaccardo, Zapata; Cristante, De Jong, Emanuelson, Montolivo, Nocerino, Poli; Balotelli, El Shaarawy, Niang, Petagna, Robinho.

De Jong made it back into the team but Prince hasn't.

Antonini and Traore are not called up for unknown "injuries", I think this mostly has to do with their imminent transfers.

The others, meaning Pazzini, Bonera, Saponara and Gabriel are all long term so they'll be out for a while. Muntari is suspended

De Sciglio and Robinho are back as well.

So pretty much a full strength side aside from missing Prince

Might these injuries mean we get to see a decent lineup?

El sha - Niang
Robinho
Montolivo - De Jong - Poli
De Sciglio - Mexès - Zapata - Abate
Abbiati

Not half bad...

well, it's not like i'd ever regard starting Niang over a fit Balo... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) i just noticed he was limping around the PSV game...and the Confed.... It could just be his sympathy-motivated new playing style...

Despite all the diving, he did get a few good hits on him from the PSV players.

We haven't heard anything about any sort of injury or fitness troubles. And starting Niang as your CF is just asking for idiotic misses. I'd rather Petagna start

If you guys think Petagna should start this game then you'd make an even worse coach than Allegri when it comes to handling youngsters. maybe a 60-70th minute substitute but that's it for me.

I think I explained myself badly.

I meant that if we have to play a front 2 and Balo is out then I rather start Petagna over "can't hit a barn door" Niang as the CF

Obviously this is not going to happen so it's a moot point

We still cannot defend from set-pieces

How much more ridiculous can you get?

Completely our faults for completely taking the foot off the pedal after scoring. They weren't even touching the ball before that

Seems to me like the ref is calling the softest of fouls for Verona, but ignoring blatant ones on us. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

As han said, we took off the pressure once we scored (in typical fashion).

We look tired already, beginning to wonder how we're going to make out come Wednesday.

Decent half ruined by terrible defending on the the corner. How the **** do you let Toni get inside you? You know they're going to him every time. We need to come out playing the way we started. Poli looks very promising. I love Abate. He's always working his *** off and his crossing has improved. Niang needs to pick his head up when he has the ball. Monto needs to pick up his game. Too many give aways. Nocerino is invisible. We really need a another good mid to play when one of the starters are out.

I don't think it's understandable when we're losing.

We're about to start the season by losing points ONCE AGAIN. Just so frustrating.

Once again a useless Urby on the right wing doing nothing but over-hitting passes

But this is the problem, we're expecting him to whistle at some point and save our @sses with a soft penalty. Because that is exactly what happened last season.

han let's not kid ourselves! The ref has been reffing a one sided game, him calling fouls for us definitely wasn't going to get us penalties let alone goals, but he has been very on sided in his decisions.

I am not blinded by this however. I can openly admit that we are the lesser of the two side right now, and we look clueless and ineffective!

This is almost exactly the same team from last year so it's not a surprise that they play the same. We failed to bring any decent reinforcement and this is the result.

Look at our bench in this game, we don't have any player we can put in that can improve us. I'm not even talking about lacking any real AM. This gonna be even more depressing season than last year because our rivals got stronger while we are the same ****.

I'm talking about the lack of ideas, the lack of any form of cohesion, the slow lethargic football we're playing. The team itself is no excuse, it's still a team that is miles better than Verona.

New players won't really change anything if we play with the same strategy we're playing with now

To be honest as bad as the players played today, it has to go back to Allegri.
How many goals do we have to concede in order for him to understand that the players need to improve their ariel abilities!
His tactics today were just ludicrous, I mean you play away from home and don't use a single DMC? Really?
Did you guys manage to notice how much the defensive line was pushed up? And lets not mention the awful subs he used for Niang and Stephan.
Silvio has already told him not to use this God forsaken formation, and he had all pre-season to try new ones, but yet we're stuck with this again.
I don't know what else we can do, Galliani could sign him messi and yet this moron would insist on playing him out of his position.
The players are not that much of a problem its damn straight the coach.
Allegri has been here for four years and he's only managed to win one first game.
All we can do now is just wait patiently until Silvio loses it and gives him the sack!

What's he supposed to do exactly? He doesn't sign the players. If the players are overrated and poor there's nothing he can do about it.

The thing is Kurt i'm not asking him to win the league, these types of games are ones we should be winning, this loss could of been avoided if he set up the team correctly.
As much as there were a few players who were off, the team did not look as bad as the 4-3-3 formation not suiting them. And I won't let go of how much the defense pushed up.
My other problem with him today was his awful subs.
Kurt, I was pro Allegri, but his biggest fault is that he doesn't learn from his mistakes, his flaws have constantly shown ever since we sold ibra.
How many of these games have we seen from Allegri in the past.

This is ridiculous. We were playing Verona, who were playing Serie B last season. Our team is poor in comparison with Barca and Bayern. But we are GODs compared to Verona. The first goal Toni scored from a header on a corner. It was not a matter of aerial ability as nuh put it. It was a case FRIGGIN Constant marking him instead of Mexes or Zapata. What a f@cking joke. And that's not the players fault. That's a tactical fault and that goes back to Allegri. And all game the team had no plan. It was just yet another case of passing the ball around.

Villa have a poor team compared to United and City, but you wouldn't and shouldn't blame the players if your team keeps losing to the likes of Barnsley and Yeolvil left and right...

I don't understand you kurt, really, I don't

You say our players are overrated, fine, let's play it your way. And even in that case, they're STILL better then every player in that Verona side, NO question.

The problem here is the tactics behind the players, simple as. We're relying on Balo to do everything from the moment we get past the halfway line and he simply can't, SES is isolated, Niang is not even worth mentioning, what do you expect will happen when SES is literally in no man's land all game long and then we continually try to go through our right side EVERY TIME we attack and the ball goes to Niang who just put his head down and tries to dribble people and runs into walls.

That basically our entire game plan, pass sideways, backwards, pass sideways some more, pass to Abate and try to get something out of a cross or just plainly hit a long ball to Balo. And then to make things worse he made those subs which only made us worse, we only looked half decent in the last few minutes or so because Robinho cam on and he was willing to drop deep and pick up the ball.

It's just the same old sh!t we saw last season, and this has nothing to do with the players themselves. We have better players than basically every team in the league bar Juve and Napoli yet we still cannot win against a newly promoted side.

No you didn't but read the posts above from other people. It's what you're implying by saying that our players are overrated (thus not good enough) so we shouldn't expect any better, and you go on to tell us that you won cash from this game, thus you were expecting the loss.

No you didn't but read the posts above from other people. It's what you're implying by saying that our players are overrated (thus not good enough) so we shouldn't expect any better, and you go on to tell us that you won cash from this game, thus you were expecting the loss.

I expected it because we're slow starters and this is our worst team in God knows how long. But I'm not going to argue, i just think it shows some of our players really aren't as good as some on here think.

Btw, no one here has mentioned Abbiati's mistake on that 2nd goal, his positioning was absolutely terrible, had he been guarding his near post like he should have then the tame header from Toni wouldn't have gone in.

So far he's made 2 crucial errors in 2 games.

It's worrying, a LOT. Especially considering that his deputy is either Gabrial (who has not impressed me AT ALL) or Amelia, who's decent but again, not good enough to be a regular

Yes we're slow starters under Allegri, even the year he won the Scudetto, we had some terrible games, but this season was a prime opportunity to at least put 3 points on the board on the first week. We are ahead of other teams in terms of fitness and we were playing against a newly promoted side. If not a win, then at least get a draw.

And which are the players who you think are overrated? I'm curious. No one here thinks that we have a Scudetto winning side, but compared to the other teams in the league it's still considered a pretty good side.

I know you think Abate is average, despite him being a first team pick for Prandelli as well.

Constant, Niang and Nocerino are all pretty average players, yes. But the others? Who is overrated from that bunch?

This game isn't as bad as i think people seem to think it was..
I mean Montolivo, Abbiati Abate, Constant played bad but what i seem to be one of the only one's noticing, SES is the one who most dissapointed, WTF does he do!? he played to his standard invisibility and fear of doing anything other then passing it back and never runinng into dangerous positions.... give me Robinho anyday(!) until SES gets his head out of his ***-and more skill and talent goes into this hair then he puts into his game. Once more, we played with 10 men, and the aforementioned 4 of our 10 didn't perform well.

Who lost more balls then monto? who is to blame for being the highest man up on the field on the 5vs3 that Toni scored his second goal on? who's about the only RB in the league that can't cross for his life...HE WAS BROUGHT UP AS A ******* RW (position requiring a right-footed player to cross the ball into the box)
