Donadoni: Lippi Needs The Shop Window Not Me
Former Italy coach Roberto Donadoni has taken a swipe at Marcello Lippi and he insists he doesn’t need to put himself in the shop window like the current Azzurri boss did. The former Milan man has spoken of all things calcio as he takes aim and fires scorn and venom on the Italian game...
The former Livorno boss was ousted as Nazionale coach following Italy’s Euro 2008 shambles with Lippi returning to the helm.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Don and he is still eating sour grapes now.
“Am I annoyed with Lippi? Absolutely not, I have nothing against him, everyone is free to do what they like but I would have done things differently to him,” Donadoni told Il Giornale.
“I don’t need to put myself on the shop window and I would not have put myself forward to coach Milan and Inter, for me it’s a question of style.”
The former Milan midfielder spoke about Alessandro Del Piero’s decision not to take a penalty against Spain and he believes the Juve man should own up rather than hide.
“Some things need to remain in the changing rooms but I believe it would be better if the person concerned came out to speak about it rather than hide,” added the coach.
“Italy? I don’t think there is anything wrong with the squad but then if certain players don’t want to play then they should stay at home.
“It would have been interesting to find out why Lippi dropped Antonio Cassano but he never explained.”
Donadoni also spoke about his future plans and he reveals he will go to Inter to try and learn some special coaching methods from Jose Mourinho.
“I will travel around Italy. I think I will go to Inter’s Appiano Gentile training ground to learn some new things from Mourinho. Then I will travel to England and Spain.
“I think Mourinho will do well he has been doing some great things already but we must not forget what Roberto Mancini did there also.
“Ronaldinho? I think Milan will get him back to his best.”
Donadoni’s comments with regards to Lippi and Del Piero are likely to cause a reaction. He wants to learn from Mourinho, but it seems as if he has already as he begins to take aim and shoot down other coaches just like the ‘Special One’ did when he arrived on the Italian scene.

You can't help but simpatise with Donadoni because of the way he was treated during his entire stint as NT coach. Personally I was a big critic of his during the EUROs and didn't agree with practically any of his decisions.
But he was never treated with any respect not from the federation, not from the media and neighter his own players. Totti's little round about on re-thinking retirement now that Lippi is back shows what a little ****** he is

QUOTE (acid911 @ Aug 29 2008, 09:23 PM) He's a big ******. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Don't worry, Lippi will get his share of what's coming to him. He's getting real old. It's never a wise decision to come back to NT coaching after you've won the most prestigious prize of them all. Either don't leave, or don't come back so soon. Time will tell. Definately, if he didn't want to stick around for the EUROs then he shouldn't have returned, I'm expecting nothingmore then failure at the WC

(IMG: style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) I just hope Nesta is classy enough to stick to his retirement. Which I think he will. Donadoni wasn't the angel, far from it, but he wasn't the devil as the media makes him out to be. I believe it came down to his stature and experience as a coach, particularly for the NT. Which made him a very easy scapegoat. The real scapegoat was Luca Toni for failing to covert so many chances. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Had he scored half of them, things could have been different. At least, better than these. I have very low hopes for the World Cup. Italy usually likes a gap of 12 years between final appearances and 24 years between wins (82, 94, 06). I'd not bet against it changing.

Nesta already said that his decision regarding the national team has nothing to do with the coach but it was a personal decision, saying that he wanted to concentrate on Milan, also you can't really blame Nesta since he's gotten an injury in every major tournament Italy played, rarely has he lasted an entire trounament. Nesta is actually classy and a man that has integrety, hard to say the same thing about Totti

(IMG: style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) This wasn't what I meant actually when I mentioned Nesta's name. I knew he had his reasons to say goodbye to the national team. Based on integrity, I'd put Cannavaro miles ahead of guys like Totti and Del Piero, great players they are. Guys like Nesta and Maldini are a class above.
