So Viudez is the new Gourcuff. Or the new Seedorf maybe... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Good either way. Takes stress of Kaka like Giancarlo mentioned. But he's an attacker. Heh heh!! I really think a double pivot mid-field will be in the offing this season.

On paper ... That looks like one hell of a roster. The perfect blend between experience and youth .. PLUS the quality of the World Class players ..

The weakest link, if I was to be a critic would be the defense .. Otherwise, this is a very good roster (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

i agre with r7, very good roster. I just wish we had a recall clause on gourcuff just in case the list of injuries increased.

Of course. but with a strong defense, we can rely on Abbiati (/Dida) IMO.

I, too, would have like #14 for Flamini for example, but numbers don't matter as long as they give their best on the pitch.

It is a very good roster and looks like a team that could challenge for the Scudetto and if we, as we suppossedly are, buying either Ivanovic from Chelsea or Thiago Silva from Fluminense our defense would have sufficient back up. I think the squad is easily strong enough to compete for the top place with Inter, Roma, Juve etc and if we get necessary recruits for defense we could go all the way. I don't think we desperately need a keeper as Abbiati has performed well so far in pre-season and we have Felipe coming in for next season from Santos. (We have apparently bought him but have put him on loan in Brazil for this season. Can anyone confirm that?)

Also for the upcoming season is Ancelotti using the Christmas Tree formation and if yes how will we fit both Pato and Borriello in the team? Other than that I think we have a roster that will suit the formation.

Any information on new boys Viudez or Cardacio?

Very little, chris. There's a bit of information in their respective threads in the player section. I know I saw Cardacio play last year for his NT but wasn't paying any particular attention. They do both seem to have promise though -- and given the jersey numbers they've got it would appear that neither are going on loan or to the primavera.

Cafu and Digao and Sergio out
Ronaldinho in

It's really good to see the number of Brazilians is balanced. now we have as many Brazilians as 'Argentinian' Inter; 5. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I'm not usually much of a stats junkie but I've discovered that Gazzetta has little player information pages on every player in Serie A.

Below are Gazzetta's average player ratings for the Milan squad for last season. I've included ratings for players who were in Serie A last season but not at Milan (ie, Antonelli and Borriello).

1 Dida 5.81
2 Oddo 5.7
3 Maldini 6
4 Kaladze 6
5 Emerson 5.77
7 Pato 6.12
8 Gattuso 5.92
9 Inzaghi 6.15
10 Seedorf 6.02
11 Borriello 6.3
13 Nesta 6.24
16 Kalac 6.18
18 Jankulovski 5.65
19 Favalli 5.83
21 Pirlo 6.18
22 Kaka 6.33
23 Ambrosini 6.2
25 Bonera 6.03
32 Brocchi 5.94
43 Paloschi 6.2
77 Antonini 5.89

Oops, missed him. Though I am surprised he got the highest rating, he was very average/injured for pretty much the whole season. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

I thought that too. But I guess even though Kaka played decently, he couldn't step up like he did last year. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Now whether this was due to his injury or him being targeted by rival defenders is anyone's guess. But then again, a bad Kaka still averages as our best player.

basically what its saying is that galliani might ask pato to switch numbers and sheva might get 7 again. Furthermore pato has sent a post card from the olympics saying to the team that he would switch numbers if asked and he talks about how sheva is a legend and he looks up to him etc and would want him to get his old number back. Also on the other note sheva said he would take 70/77/76 because hes attached somewhat to the number 7 now because in milan it has special meaning for him. He said he would kiss on the badge and score a goal and do a formal appology to the fans as if he is a new signing and it would be like a new experience for him and the fans.

I dont know how some of you feel about him kissing our badge again but i would welcome it. Sheva is a part of us all and we cannot ignore what he has done. I mean i became a fan of milan because of him.

anyways thats the basics let tennie give you correct details. My italian is basic only.

He won't get 7 for sure. Perhaps, he'll take 76..going with the whole 'year of birth' fad, that our new recruits have adopted.

"Because it's not right to ask him to." Pato (who sent a postcard from Peking in previous days: 'If the club asks me, I'm ready to change numbers. Sheva has made history with Milan.') yesterday wasn't so sure: "We'll see, we'll talk about it." And he who hasn't had the jersey for a time, but it won't be the Ukrainian to ask for it: "Pato has said he'd give me the number 7? It's nice on is part, but for me I'd be happy with 76, or 70, or 77. It's enough that there's a 7 in there and that it's a Milan jersey." I'd give him 7 **** in the head...

If he really takes away the 7 from Pato,... it would be a new low even for him. And it would be totally Milan-unlike.

Sheva needs to act like a human being and reject #7 even if Pato offered to give up on it. I can't believe this sh1t... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) those who think Sheva shouldn't get the armband, I assure you, he will definitely get it!

If he gets either no.7 or the armband Milan will be a big fat joke! He does not deserve any of that cause he has not been loyal to Milan, period!
If I was a Milan player I would be totally against it!

We don't know anything about jersey numbers yet. Shevchenko's comments quoted above were actually rather modest, I thought. If, however, he turns into a teacher's pet and gets his way in everything...fishdoll will be displeased.

I think Sheva will follow the trends of Dinho and Flamini and take #76. The last thing he'll want to do is cause any more controversy with his move back. Its a new chapter anyway, so a new number is definitely the right way to go. At least we have the best #76, #80 and #84 in the world! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

+1. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) It's depressing. Personally I wouldn't go much over 23 (for famous players that is). 32 is pushing it a bit, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Almost like having three figure numbers, like 192. Random stuff.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) Dunno...I always played with number 47. I used to act, high and mighty and say stuff like it was related to 1947 ((IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Yeah right!!)...and that it added up to my lucky number....but I just liked the game a lot. Hitman:Codename 47.

Blog: Number crunching

Andriy Shevchenko is back at Milan and looks likely to be given Alexandre Pato's No 7 shirt. Steve Wilson thinks he should have to earn the jersey

(IMG:http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/blogs/shevseven460.jpg)

Andriy Shevchenko is a legend, no argument from me on that matter. What he achieved in his first spell at San Siro marks him down as one of the club's all-time greats, but, remember, it was his decision to walk away from the club for the millions offered by Chelsea. Now that he is back it is up to him to earn the respect of the fans and reclaim his status in the Rossoneri Hall of Fame.

There have been rumours abound that the Ukrainian is to be given the No 7 shirt that he wore in his heyday, currently owned by young Brazilian sensation Alexandre Pato. It doesn't appear to be Sheva who wants this, the player claiming that he would be happy with No 70, 76 or 77 - as long as it has a seven in it. Yet, someone at the club wishes to see him in his old jersey.

If The Duck does have to hand over the number which he wore last term - as he slotted home nine goals in 18 games - it will be yet another sign of the poor behind the scenes running of the Diavoli. He bravely took the weight of expectation that comes with carrying the famous digit on his back and went on to earn the right to keep the coveted number with his performances last term.

The club have already failed to adequately solve their goalkeeping and defensive crisis, instead signing two Hollywood players who may be past their best, and then gave an unjustified contract to Clarence Seedorf's brother. To now take a prestigious jersey from a lad who represents the club's future in order to give it to a man returning with his metaphorical tail between his legs lacks class.

Even Ronaldinho - whose R10 branding relies on him wearing the No 10 shirt - was big enough to put his own personal gains aside to keep harmony in the camp when he took the No 80 top instead of relieving Seedorf of his number. Whoever it is pushing for Sheva to take back the No 7 is only going to make it harder for him to win over the fans who feel he betrayed them by leaving.

Couldn't agree with it more.

Only those who blindly support everything the management do - whether it's right or wrong - will argue with the FACT that Sheva mustn't get #7 (IF that's what he or the management want). I'm glad to see him back, but he (or those certain persons behind the curtains) should think about another jersey number. it'd be a disgraceful act if they took it from Pato and handed it to Sheva.

I would like Sheva to get the #7 shirt, and I think everybody knows my opinion of the current management, and it's certainly not that of absoloute agreement of everything they do.

The reason I say he should? It's just a number. Some players like them have feel they have a meaning, others don't. Pato doesn't really care in my opinion, I really don't think he's bothered whether he wears #7 or not. But Sheva does. So what harm does it do giving Sheva a number he wants, when Pato is fine with it?

It's not a matter of 'taking it from Pato' and giving it somebody else. Pato made the offer, because I really don't think he cares about that number, the #7 has no link to him at all, he wasn't even that # at his Brazilian club.

Do you really believe in those?...

How do we know what Pato wants deep inside? what if he's being pushed to giving up the number buy some people? I can't accept that #7 means 'nothing' to him. maybe it did not when he made his debut, but now it does. it represents the memories of his first goals, the sweetest ones! he's young, they should always do things that boost his confidence, not destroy it. taking #7 from him and giving it to Sheva is 'exactly' like destroying everything he earned in his first half-season.

And it's not just about Pato not wanting it/Sheva wanting it. it's much deeper than that... it's putting the individuals ahead of the team in its worst form.

Agreed on the whole number thing zd, Pato should keep his own number. Sheva was humble enough to say that he would be ok with taking another number, so why continue to push it? It will not look good. I was in favour of having Sheva back but as a new player that starts from ground zero, ofcourse the memories of his past remain with us but as far as other previliges go, he doesn't get any special ones. Captaincy and first dibs on a shirt that is already taken (no matter whose it is) should not be something that is discussed

Anyway. Look at our roster

http://www.acmilan.com/lm_team_roster.aspx

Our persuit of 'bolstering' the forward line by showing the fans a mirage that is not actually there has lead to the midfield looking thinned out. Seedorf needs to be moved back into the midfielders list, and so does Viudez because as far as I know he's an attacking midfielder not a striker, and even one of Kaka or R10 should be moved back. This is getting a bit risiculous now.

On the flipside, Zd, how do we know that Pato didn't say Sheva can have #7? It may mean nothing to him. If he'd made a strong repuation with that number, say like a Ronaldinho with #10 or Beckham with #7 kinda thing then I'd agree. But he's spent 6 months with the #7 shirt, I just don't think it'd mean much to him.

I, too, wanted to see him back and I'm happy for him and for us now. but the armband and especially #7 are not good ideas at all. I guess we should wait and see what happens...

So, you agree that we have no idea whether or not he really wants to stay with his number, right? the best thing to do is to follow the role model we have and according to that, Sheva has to choose another number because that number belongs to another player. just like when Ronaldinho came and had to go with #80 because #10 was already Seedorf's.

I think you guys are just making a big deal out of things ... Pato will get the #11 and thats it ... There is no point in writing big posts on something as measly as a number. No one in the squad has ever caused a fuss about it, so why do we have to do it here ?

Pato is new, the number 7 means nothing to him now. So I don't see the point in all this really.

I think it belongs to Boriello. Anyway, I'm pretty sure Pato would prefer the 11 but since it's not available he should keep his number. Since Sheva has no problem with it I don't know why someone else is trying to push it

Yeah I know #11 is Borriello's. some wise guys don't know, despite thinking this ain't no rocket science. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I just hope we don't fvck everything up with this kind of favoritism. handing Sheva #7 might piss more than one guy who owns it. giving Sheva the armband might piss off those who stayed loyal to Milan and never ever left. we can't unbalance the team with these unjust decisions.

Anyway, two days till our first game. we'll find out about Sheva's number very soon.

Exactly. Not my favorite number, wonder why people pick it so passionately. For all it's worth, it sounds a little gayish. Almost like wearing this icon, itself.
