The contract of Mathias Cardacio has been deposited with Lega Calcio; he's now officially a Milan player.

Benvenuto Mathias!

Impressive goal.

Is he the dude that compared himself to Pirlo?

@ Tennie

Google says it's Cardaccio not Cardacio (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Nothing yet, no. I just looked.

That said, Lega Calcio is the football league. Transfers are only REALLY official when contracts are deposited here - and Carcacio's contract has been deposited. My guess is that an official announcement is likely to come tomorrow.

It seems that he's on loan at Milan, we can't loan out a loaned player! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Looks like he will be staying with the team. He'll be wearing the #14 jersey.

(from the ticker on acmilan.com's italian page)
I NUMERI DI MAGLIA DI CARDACIO E VIUDEZ
05/08/2008

That's what he said, but look at the jersey numbers. It's roundabout logic, but a team's #20 is generally NOT a primavera player. Not sure they'd have been allowed to pick those numbers if there was much chance of them sitting with the primavera all season.

I agree that they will add depth we need... and definitely I was caught be surprise by this duo being signed (Viudez and Cardacio). BTW, is Cardacio spelled with two Cs or one? Some sites I see it as Cardaccio.

It's 'Cardaccio' for the Uruguay U-20s, but it's 'Cardacio' on the Lega Calcio site and on acmilan.com, so I'm going with the latter.

You know I also think that these two being signed could mean that Emerson and Brocchi will have zero playing time. Someone mentioned before players usually don't get numbers like that unless they are being considered for the senior team. I think we will be seeing these two in the upcoming season.

I would hope with some luck we see them play against Man City. Since we need an attacking mid player because of Kaka's absence, Viudez could fill in that spot... not that I want to put pressure on the kid right now. He's very young. Once Ronaldinho comes back. Wow... Kaka will really have a lot of pressure reduced off him.

Just a little something for you from Goal.com (rubbish):

http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=795373

LOL. Cardaccio apparently, according to them, was going to Roma. If that's true, it's just another idea that has gone wrong for Roma.

zd (and others): there are photos of today's training session up on acmilan.com. You can see them if you're registered on the site, and registration is free.

There's only one problem. Unless I'm mistaken, the charming folks at acmilan.com are rather confused as to which new player is which. I think they've got the wrong names under the wrong pictures.

Cardacio and Vudez both have dual nationality (Italian both of them) thats why no EU spots were used up and we have been linked with Thiago Silva(?) - was in a previous post somewhere but i cant be bothered searching for it

I thought Carlo said that both will train with the first team for a week, and after that they'll decide what to do?

The reason they are put in the first team is that every club in Italy has the right to sign 2 non-EU players per season (and 1 in the winter trasfer window). This is a valuable option and most of the clubs don't miss to exploite it by signing young talents from all arround the world every season. Once they were signed on a permanent contract ussually these youngsters are loaned to clubs from lower divisions. That was supposed to be the faith of Kaka when he arrived initially in Milan at the age of 21 I think. But after a few weeks he turned to be too good for serie B team (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

So far we have signed Dinho but he already has a spanish passport so the two spots for non EU players were still free and it wasn't a big surprise that these two young southamericans were signed at the end.

However I thought I read somewhere that one of them may have an italian passport. If it is true I would expect us to sign another non EU youngster.

Nope? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) He plays for the biggest club in the world, and that makes it much easier to be selected for the NT if you come from a relatively smaller nation such as Uruguay. Imagine if I were snapped up by Milan, then I'd certainly have a clear shot at Pakistan NT, irrespective of the fact whether I play regularly or not at my club.

Cardacio played the last 20 minutes of Uruguay's friendly v. France (which ended in a scoreless draw).

I'd half expect you to be in the top 40s at least. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Canada has the structure and resources to do this!

Good to know. That should have mean something. And I'm sure Washington can give him some extra tips regarding Milan..

You do know that 'Malta' means orange in my language (Urdu)? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) No kidding! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Malta is also a color here, the obvious one, orange color. Nice logo though, it looks a bit like a government would create it, you know those shields in the White House, etc.

I still can't believe you guys are 150th. Ha!

Do you guys think he will be given a chance this season? I have only seen this kid play for Milan once or twice, but cant tell if he has the quality.

Under Leonardo I think he will be given chances, though not in important situations. Late in league games where we lead by a couple late on, in Coppa matches and late on/in unimportant CL games.

Pre season will be the answer to that..if he gets games to try and impress but even with the sale of Kaka the midfield is the strongest part of the team...it will be tough for him this season but the boy is talented so maybe next season when possibly Ambro and Rino will have gone then will be his chance to shine
