Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and love the Transfer Campaign “We do not have a transfer kitty stashed away here. Despite failing to qualify for the Champions League, the club is strengthening the squad and increasing the wages. This means we’ll be £35m in the red without Berlusconi’s help.
“The fans should be happy, as all we’d need to do in order to wipe out or debts is sell Kaka and Andrea Pirlo. Instead they won’t move, so if that’s not a show of love for this side, I don’t know what is.
“It is incredible that the supporters are not celebrating the arrival of Marco Borriello, who scored 19 goals last season, the fact Alexandre Pato can finally play a full campaign, Mathieu Flamini from Arsenal and World Cup winner Gianluca Zambrotta.
“As a fan, I too hope something else will happen, but Milan have already reinforced their squad.†The above quote is what Galliani said in response to the petition asking Berlusconi to sell the club. He can't make it any clearer than this. The club does NOT want to be in debt. They don't want to find themselves in the same ****hole as most of the other big clubs. And they gotta do what they gotta do. We're a big club with limited transfer funds. For this, I'm grateful for the transfers we already made. And I think Milan will keep fighting until they get their finances straight again. Can we win the Scudetto with this squad? Most likely not. But things will get better. Now do I believe Galliani should be sacked? Probably yes. We need someone like Leonardo IN CHARGE of our transfers, not just as a scout. Galliani dropped the ball one too many times... And he has a thing for injury-prone oldies while Leonardo is into youth. But should Berlusconi sell the club? That depends on him, and he seems to want to hold on and he might just have a reason. QUOTE (mishie @ Jul 6 2008, 03:36 PM) It's a sign of the times (not meaning specific people on this forum i mean in general)when a club that takes a sensible approach and has the long term future in mind gets slagged off....in some instantiates i can see where Galliani is coming from no big pots of money so why not be sensible, yes we have new players..as many as we would like...no but this is a rebuilding period and to many player introduced at the same time would cause a unbalance so even if we had the money mass buying of players is never a good idea imo. this team will compete for Serie A maybe next season not this but hope springs eternal and you never know what can happen! True, but why promise fans that Milan will buy a world class attacker when they really had no intention of spending any money on him. Why does Galliani talk about R10's, Eto'o's, etc wages? Any world class player will demand a high salary and unless he's out of contract with his current club then there is no way that they will let him go for free. I just find Galliani's excuses and reasons as to why they can't buy a player that they've already promised the fans more then irritating, and I think that is why the fans are complaining, because they are being constantly lied to I mean, if you're not sure of something or think that it could be something out of the club's current reach then why promise it? Either act on what you say or just don't say anything in the first place

R10 will arrive and after what Galliani has said about the other players brought in they will consider this a successful campaign!

I think it would be a midly succesfull transfer campaign, forgetting the GK and CB situtation, I would be more then happy with what would have been done. I'm just not confident that they will even manage to get R10

(IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I can't see either of them actually leaving. What Galliani is saying is that because of player wages, we go in the red, so in return Silvio balances it out from his own pocket. But because of that no tranfers are made. He only keeps mentioning that their have been offers made for Kaka and Pirlo so as to say to the fans to either stop complaining or we sell those players and get new ones in return because we can't afford to do both things (pay current wages and get the new players) so basically he's saying it's an either or situation What really p!sses me off about this is the fact that we have Emerson, Brocchi, Dida, etc (but mostly those 3) getting high waged and not even playing more then 10 games per season

Overhype zd?? I really didn't mention anyone even hyping Borriello. The only good words I hear about him is from the mouth of Galliani and Co. But what should they do after re-signing him, honestly? You don't expect them to say, and yes we've signed a crappy Milan-made Borriello who unintentionally scored 19 goals last season? Sure our management is praising him. But that isn't hype, just the usuall confidence pep talk.

Aye, but we still have moronic statements like this from Galliani on 6/24: "Some people are talking about Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, but I'm not sure that he's better than Marco Borriello." If that's not hype, then I don't know what is. The management are hyping Borriello, otherwise he wouldn't be mentioned to the press every ten seconds and thus putting God-knows-what pressure on his shoulders.

I won't bet on his success and I'm not letting his 19 goals for the smaller team Genoa get me carried away. I'm just looking forward to his performances. for me he's as qualified as our third choice striker, at best.

The management are hyping Borriello, otherwise he wouldn't be mentioned to the press every ten seconds and thus putting God-knows-what pressure on his shoulders. Yes, this is the one sentence that is quite ridiculous. On the other hand, like I've said before, the "Huntelaar is excellent" story could also be a hype. Anyway, I've explained that it is only natural and logical for our board to back Borriello since he's now here. They once put him in without pressure and not much came out. Now they are making the opposite. Anyhow, Milan will sign a striker or Dinho and that will decrease Bori's apps. QUOTE I said overhyped because not only Galliani's trying to make him look like a star striker every time he talks about Milan's transfer campaign Who else except Galliani "hyped" Borriello? QUOTE also because he has played for Milan before and hasn't showed 'anything promising' IMO. I won't bet on his success and I'm not letting his 19 goals for the smaller team Genoa get me carried away. I'm sure we all should not get carried away with the success at Genoa in one season, but by all means, we shouldn't also be carried away by his prior flop at Milan in...17 matches! That's...nothing.

I think Dida has been given more then enough chances, and it's not like he's in his twenties and just starting out and has a decent salary that wouldn't really effect Milan if it is being payed or not. He has a wage that goes up tp 4m each year, why keep him when Carlo has clearly lost faith in him and won't play him. He'll spend another season on the bench but in the end still collect his money, and Galliani still has the b@lls to come out and complain about money when this is going on As for Puma, I like him, I liked the way he played last season when he was played, personally I would prefer him over Ambro since he has much more techincal ability, doesn't have the temper Ambro does and is a much smarter player, but with Flamini coming in him and Brocchi will probably only be used in Coppa matched we have waay too many defensive mids, we simply don't need that many

QUOTE (Minami @ Jul 8 2008, 07:43 PM) I don't think that boriello will be played often alongside pato. we will most likely see the christmas formation more often with pato as a lone striker. and if R10 comes than he'll be the second. i don't know what galliani really wants to reach with his transfers.... on the one hand he buys new forwards like boriello and perhaps ronaldinho but on the other hand he knows exactly that we have have quite enough strikers like pato, inzaghi, paloschi and so on.and than he says that we don't have anough money to buy anyone else, and that we should be confident with who we have. he doesn't care that we could need a gk more than another striker... I personally don't see how having Pippo, Pato, Boriello and Paloschi as enough, Pippo will most likely be out for 3/4 of the season with another injury, Boriello, let's face it, isn't good enough and has already proved that more then once in the past when he was given the chance at Milan, Paloschi as much potential as he might have he's still a primavera player and shouldn't really be counted as someone that could lead Milan's attack. And lastly we cannot expect Pato to do everything, score, assist and stay fit for an entire season, because lets face it, with the other choices we have for the attack, that is what the poor kid will have to do. Another striker is simply needed, we can't stay as we are it won't be enough, just like it wasn;t enough last season and the one before that. mo R10 is the best solution for this, because with him we can play bothe xmas tree with him and Kaka as the trequartisti or the 4-3-1-2 with R10 acting as a suppoting forward, and it will leave us with many option if players need to be rotated because of a tight schedule

On Boriello he will be a starter after all this hype from Galliani he then can't leave him on the bench I think Pato can play as the lone striker in the xmas tree formation, he did it against Genoa where he scored 2 goals, so I don't really think he will have a problem either way we play, he's a versatile striker and I think if we were really in a tight spot he could even play as a trequartista if needed

QUOTE (mishie @ Jul 8 2008, 08:44 PM) i hope we won't play the xmas tree to be honest, but from Carlo's comments i think this will be his proffered formation for this season. i just hope we have the ability to be able to break the teams down that defend deep and with 1 striker this is more difficult....maybe a crazy idea but perhaps we should try and play with wingers...but it's t late in the transfer market to bring in players to change the shape of the team We all know this is Carlo's favourite formation and it will be the one the will be mostly used. That's why I'm more in favour of Ronaldinho rather then an out and out striker. With R10, the formation would be more flexible, where as with a striker it would be the same thing we've done the last 2 seasons, which is basically constantly running into a brick wall ---------defence----------- -Seedorf--Pirlo---DMF---- ---------R10--Kaka-------- ------------Pato------------ with a pure striker it would look like this ---------defence----------- -----DMF--Pirlo---DMF---- -----Seedorf--Kaka------- --------------ST------------ With the second formation we would see the same old tactic of trying to go through the middle over and over again and not succeeding and in the end revert to long balls and hoping that someone (Kaka/Pato/Pirlo) will pull a miracle out of their @ss With the first one we would have Seedorf instead of the DMF which would already be a big plus and Kaka and R10 floating around behind the striker. And I'm guessing that Pato could really come into his own with those 2 behind him QUOTE (Minami @ Jul 8 2008, 09:32 PM) i know that it wouldn't be bad to sign a striker, but it's not our only problem that we don't get through the other team's defence, if we don't have a strong defence. i know we had a lot of problems with goalscoring the last season. the only transfer rumours in last time were about adebayor, drogba and ronalidinho. i think we should not only try to buy new strikers, but also do something for our defensive, like looking for another gk and one more defender. I think we all here know that Milan is in desperite need of atleast 1 WC CB and a good if not great keeper, but it has been made very clear that those purchases will not be made so I think everyone has given up on the idea, even though we all know we're in desperate need of both players. A striker is a problem that Galliani has adressed, so we're all basically taking what we can get atm
