Milan may be celebrating fourth place and a 5-2 victory, but Carlo Ancelotti warned the club he wants a contract extension sooner rather than later.
“I would like to continue this adventure,†the Coach told journalists. “If it were up to me would I have signed already? I think I have been clear on this issue.â€
The last two years have seen endless speculation over his future at San Siro, as it was said he would be sacked if he failed to either achieve fourth place in Serie A or win the Champions League.
The Rossoneri are currently on track for both, but Ancelotti has still not been given job security for next season.
“I did not say I demand a contract extension, but rather that I would like to continue this wonderful adventure,†pointed out Ancelotti.
“There is time for the renewal and I am in no hurry. We should first get through this difficult campaign that is slowly getting better and try to finish it in the best way possible.â€
The current deal expires in June 2008, though Ancelotti was more eager to discuss other matters, such as the 5-2 win away to Ascoli.
“We played a good game, especially in the first half. The important thing was to get a victory so we went four points clear of Palermo and can focus on preparing for the Champions League semi-final.â€
The Rossoneri are now comfortably in fourth place and closing in on Lazio in third – despite starting the campaign with an eight-point Calciopoli penalty.
“When we were 3-0 up we became a little arrogant, so we made life more difficult for ourselves than it needed to be,†continued the tactician.
“This meant we had to play the second half under a little more tension.†channel4
