QUOTE (Nova @ Sep 11 2006, 09:26 AM) I wonder how traitor feels now to see Oliveira score AND win . I hope learning english was worth it (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ::Cough:: playing golf ::cough:: QUOTE He's a wonderful kid IMO. I guess he will push Gilar to the bench soon. A lot have been saying this over and over again, Oliveira can't push either Gila nor Pippo to the bench, only Gila and Pippo can fight with each other for the box-striker position. Oliveira is a neccesity in the type of formation we play. Even though we have not lost once while pippo and Gila have played together, I still wouldn't put them together because Gila will surely not score, Pippo scoring is almost a certainty in every game, but Gila is not Pippo (no one is really) and he will need someone like Oliveira next to him to link up well with. Kaka and Oliveira already have 'golden twosome' written all over them, they will have a great partnership with each other, even better then the one Kaka had with the Ukrainian, and lets not forget Gila is our future and he needs to start getting used to playing with Oliveira. So I would still go with the Gila-Oliveira formation for the serie A games.

Olé for Oliveira
At the end of a controversial summer, Milan have chosen Ricardo Oliveira as the substitute for Andriy Shevchenko. But, as Eurocalcio’s Lorenzo Zacchetti asks, is he the right man for the job?
Milan fans didn’t really appreciate the club’s summer transfer campaign and showed their anger with chants and banners during the Trofeo TIM at San Siro against Inter and Juventus. The tournament, based on three 45-minute matches, was just two hours after the end of the summer transfer window, which proved disappointing for the Diavolo’s lovers. Replacing Andriy Shevchenko after his painful transfer to Chelsea was ‘only’ Ricardo Oliveira. This Brazilian striker from Real Betis is not yet popular amongst the Italian supporters, despite his debut goal against Lazio.
The new arrival has also chosen the No 7 shirt, which belonged to Sheva, despite the team’s suggestion he should avoid another comparison with the Ukrainian legend. “For me there is no problem,†said the courageous Brazilian. “If one of the biggest football teams has chosen me it must mean I have the ability.†But he will also have to convince the most animated fans who have been spoiled by Silvio Berlusconi for the last 20 years. Everyone was waiting for a big signing from Milan this summer, mainly because after the eight-point penalty the team will have to chase Inter, reinforced by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Patrick Vieira, Hernan Crespo, Fabio Grosso, Douglas Maicon and Olivier Dacourt.
Milan tried hard to respond to the city rivals by signing Ronaldo, a transfer which would have been a moral slap to Massimo Moratti, who is still hurting from the betrayal of ‘Il Fenomeno’ in 2002. When Adriano Galliani and Ariedo Braida arrived in Madrid everyone was waiting for the transfer to happen. After all, the two negotiators are used to a ‘mission impossible’. For example, in 1988 they signed Frank Rijkaard from Sporting Lisbon and Braida had to hide the contract in his trousers to stop the Portuguese fans from ripping it up.
However, this time the dynamic duo didn’t break Ramon Calderon’s resistance. The new President of Real Madrid was still mad at Galliani, who a few weeks ago had called him “a thief†for the insistent courting of Kaka. For this reason he ordered sporting director Predrag Mijatovic not to reduce the initial price of the player, which was set at £20m. Definitely too much for a man in his thirties, who has suffered far too many injuries. It is understandable that Milan abandoned the negotiations, but it’s surprising that they have decided to spend £12m plus Johann Vogel on Oliveira, who doesn’t seem ready to play ahead of Filippo Inzaghi and Alberto Gilardino.
Another surprise was the rush to sign him. Once the negotiations with Real were interrupted, Braida and Galliani went for dinner with Roberto Assis, brother of Ronaldinho and Oliveira’s agent, laying the foundations of the contract for the ex-Valencia striker. Afterwards, the two officials went to Seville by train, where they found an agreement with Betis for the player. After a few days, the Spanish club tried to increase the price – hinting at a better offer from Zenit St Petersburg – but the contract was sorted right at the end of the transfer market window on August 31 at 7pm.
Upon his arrival in Milan for the traditional physical test, Oliveira said: “I’m happy to play for the club, because there are many Brazilians. But now I want to be friends with all of the others. I will have to learn Italian quickly, because the only thing I can say at the moment is ‘tutto bene’ – everything is fine.†The Rossoneri faithful, instead, want to see if Oliveira speaks the same language as the champions on the pitch.
Born in Sao Paulo on June 5, 1980, Oliveira started his career at Portuguesa and then moved to Santos in 2002, forming ‘the marvellous trio’ with Robinho and Diego. In 2003 he arrived in Europe with Valencia. His first season wasn’t bad – 21 appearances with eight goals – and ended with victory in La Liga and the UEFA Cup, even if he wasn’t always playing in the first XI.
During the summer he transferred to Real Betis and in his first season in Andalusia he scored 22 goals in 37 matches to become ‘Pichichi’ – top scorer of La Liga – and also won the Copa del Rey. His second year in Sevilla was terrible though, after an accidental collision with Ricardo Carvalho during a Champions League match against Chelsea resulted in knee ligament damage.
The injury ended his dream of playing in the World Cup, although he has won the Copa America and the Confederations Cup with Brazil. After the injury the player’s career was in danger so he went on loan to Sao Paulo, reaching the Libertadores Cup Finals. But by the time his loan ended, Oliveira didn’t seem too concerned about returning to Spain and joined the team’s summer camp nine days late. Betis decided to punish him with a fine of €1m – never before has a player been fined so much.
“Finally I’m playing for Milan,†he stated. “Now that everything is signed I can forget all the troubles of my transfer, I’m really happy. I only want to think about football and show everyone why I’m here. I’m ready to give everything, to work for the team and to score.â€
During his career Oliveira has always been used to playing as a lone striker. For Santos he was the focal point of a triangle formed by Diego and Robinho. For Betis he was the only striker in the team. He will have to change his attitude for Milan by forming a partnership with Inzaghi or Gila. The Rossoneri never play with less than two strikers, probably due to Berlusconi’s notorious diktat to Carlo Ancelotti.
On the Rossoneri side scepticism is high. Many fans are accusing Berlusconi of losing his interest to invest in Milan and are asking him to decide between football and politics. On the other hand, the more optimistic among the San Siro supporters are seeing the Oliveira case as a good start in the relationship with Roberto Assis. The final objective is naturally Ronaldinho – the dream of every Milan fan and of everyone who loves football.
The quarrel that the World Player of the Year and Rijkaard had during the European Super Cup has reinforced the chances of his future transfer to Milan. Rijkaard, even if he is denying any kind of problem with the Brazilian, said: “Today he is fundamental for Barça, but I can’t predict what will happen in a year. Milan? Well, if someone asks me for a comment about them I cannot surely say anything bad.†Milan are dreaming of Ronaldinho, maybe even in January – unless Oliveira surprises everybody.

Oliveira not moving to Madrid
MADRID, Spain: Real Madrid won't be signing AC Milan striker Ricardo Oliveira as a replacement for Ronaldo.
Talks at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium between Milan vice president Adriano Galliani and Madrid officials stopped because of a FIFA rule which prevents a player from appearing for three clubs in the same season, news reports said Wednesday.
Oliveira spent last season with Real Betis but then was loaned to Sao Paulo for the three months of the European offseason. He joined Milan on Aug. 31.
"Oliveira played for Sao Paulo and Milan and Real Madrid would be a third (team) and that's very difficult. The lawyers were working on it and it's better to avoid risks," Galliani told Radio Marca.
Earlier Wednesday, FIFA authorized the transfer of Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano to Liverpool even though he has already played for Corinthians and West Ham.
Today in Sports Alpine Skiing: Austrian loses one antagonist but gains another Soccer: Celebrating a birthday in style Vantage Point: Cool, even facing a media rush Galliani has been in the Spanish capital for three days, having secured Ronaldo's €7.5 million (US$9.75 million) transfer Tuesday.
Madrid's failure to sign Oliveira on the last day of January's transfer window has left it with only three top strikers — Ruud van Nistelrooy, Raul Gonzalez and Gonzalo Higuain. Most leading clubs have four.
The team has scored only 28 goals in 20 league games this season, its lowest tally in 16 years.

No Real deal for Oliveira
Ricardo Oliveira will terminate the campaign with Milan after his proposed loan move to Real Madrid collapsed.
The Rossoneri were seemingly willing to hand over their summer signing from Real Betis, but the move was just too complicated to complete so close to the transfer window’s closure.
“It was a bit complex,†noted Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani. “Real Madrid would have been his third club this season after already appearing for Milan and Sao Paulo.â€
Galliani was making reference to the FIFA rule which doesn’t allow an individual to play for more than three clubs in one term.
Although Liverpool have successfully managed to get special dispensation to sign Javier Mascherano from West Ham for the same reason, Milan and Real didn’t want to take any risks at such a late stage.
The Brazilian will therefore remain at the San Siro, a decision which also means that Andrea Caracciolo hasn’t left Palermo.
Milan were lining up the former Brescia man as a replacement for Oliveira who would have filled in for Ronaldo at Real following his Milan switch.
Meanwhile, Sampdoria have claimed that the Rossoneri were also interested in netting their star forward Francesco Flachi.
“Milan asked us for several players, including Flachi,†sporting director Beppe Marotta revealed. “But we decided to keep him in Genoa.â€

QUOTE Oliveira Makes Instant Impact
Ricardo Oliveira has made an instant impact with Real Zaragoza after scoring twice in the Aragónese side's friendly win over S.D. Huesca at the weekend.
The Brazilian striker has only enjoyed five training sessions with his new team-mates since joining the club on loan for a year from AC Milan.
After a difficult year in Italy, however, he recovered his smile with two clinical strikes in the pre-season encounter against the Segunda B team on Sunday.
Sergio GarcÃa staked his claim for a place in the team next term with two goals of his own during hte opening 45 minutes, but it was Oliveira's appearance that lifted Zaragoza.
Having come on at the start of the second half, Oliveira had to wait only 14 minutes before guiding in his first of the evening and then capped a strong display by netting a second in the 89th minute.
The 27-year-old arrived from Milan to replace Ewerthon, who opted to return to the Bundesliga to join champions VfB Stuttgart this summer.
Coach VÃctor Fernández also gave Francisco Pavón a run out as he continues to build for the new season, that will see Zaragoza participate in the UEFA Cup.
Following their stay in Huesca, Zaragoza will remain in Andalucia for their next three friendlies as they compete in the Trofeo Colombino against Parma and Recre, before taking part in the Trofeo Ramón de Carranza against Cádiz next month. As Porty would say 'Sell Kaka, buy Oli back'!!! Naah...he already belongs to us.

In the game between Real Zaragoza vs. Palermo, Amauri netted a hattrick, but a familiar name, Ricardo Oliveira, netted twice for Zaragoza. Pretty exciting game. Oli blows by his defender well in the first goal, even though there is quite a keeper error, but also has a sweet strike from outside the 18 for his second goal, and looks to be in fine form in the preseason for zaragoza. i feel we were hasty. http://youtube.com/watch?v=hXQO_7Ln4a0

im a broken record, so sorry about this before i even begin..but..we never showed him any faith, or gave him a chance to get comfortable..we brought him in from a different league expecting him to immediately replace sheva's production. we gave him no time to settle in, as he was always the first substitute off, and never given a consistent chance with the first team since we insisted on playing pippo and gila together for a while last season..he was never trusted in important games, so therefore when he did get chances, he finished like he should have..like someone dealing with a kidnapped sister, playing and living in a new league, trying to adapt to a new style, and overthinking and unnaturally taking his scoring opportunities as a result..he was shown no faith, played without the confidence of the club of fans..came on and hit a couple posts..and from then on i can count on my hand the number of appearances he made. all while dealing with the kidnapping of his sister. itll be ironic if he outscores our top scorer. just a little faith from management after one unsettleing, life-changing year for him, and the pass he received before curling that ball into the upper right V might as well have been from pirlo. he seemed completely confident, composed, and articulate with that finish. that was technically perfect the way he controlled the ball, touched it, faked, and unleashed a perfect curl. and thats not his first cracking goal for zaragoza in the past week..the options oli coulda given carlo this season could have been fun to watch considering all the tournaments we were in..he would have had time to settle in, and the pressue would have been less, coming of a champions league win..and in the end, the bottom line woulda been we woulda had two extremely motivated, talented brazilian strikers using eachother to prove their worth to everyone, with kaka helping them. u can see oli's determination and motivation on his face after he scores as his teamates greet him, and that was an oli that we never saw. we saw a timid, frustrated one. and if he flopped this year? without the family problems, and the more lenient learning curve..we dump him and continue on our quest to sign etoo or dinho, like we had planned on doing anyways..
..however, if barca continues to suck like this though, then perhaps a january purchase of one of their attackers may in fact be possible? who knows!
..sorry guys, promise this is the last post of its kind.

Well I never believed in him... maybe only at the beginning after the Lazio game but still... I don't think he has too much to offer to Milan. But this goal you posted above... wow, I never expected that from Oliveira! Not that it means anything...

i agree with you kurt, if a player is given a chance and fails, he doesn't deserve to stay at a top club..but what im arguing is that he wasnt even really given a solid chance. The fans, (including us) were dissappointed the moment he was even signed, because we already felt he wasnt sheva's successor. He wasn't even trusted from the start, and you can tell in the way Milan handled him. The management was in a rush to appease the fans who wanted Milan to ease their hurt feelings post-shevchenko. So we say ronaldinho! and we say drogba! and we want ronaldo! and we get oli..so basically, oliveira never had the time to settle in that a player deserves. basically if he didnt come in and pour in the goals, he was doomed, because everyone around milan were impatient, and looking for a quick fix for sheva. at least when sheva was signed to chelsea, he was an immediate first 11 candidate at the start of the season, played every game up front for the majority of the time he was healthy, and made many appearances..he scored 14 goals over 3 tournaments in which he saw major playing time..oli played in less than half of last seasons games for us..and his appearances were either as a sub, or if he started he was usually off after the hour mark..king henry sucked his first year at arsenal..but he was given time to adapt and repaid arsenals faith. first year in a new country is always tough..add an ongoing saga of not knowing if ur sister was alive or not..and being thrown into a situation where u must either hit the net every other game or be benched..is that a fair chance? id be interested to know if he was played as much as gila was last year, if he could have perhaps netted more than 12, which is why im interested to see if he outscores our top scorer this year..his numbers were awful last year indeed..but im pretty sure gonzalo higuain, who was signed for probably around the same amount, didnt do much his first year at madrid..the difference? faith. thats why hes still there..granted higuain is much younger, but if milan are gonna spend close to 15 mil on a player, they have got to give him more a chance than what rico was given..otherwise it seems like 15 mil was just thrown away..we all must admit oli's purchase was very rushed and i believe his sale was even more rushed..itd be great if he works his price tag up north and saves us some money..but it would also have been nice to go into this season with an on-form oli, seeing as he clearly has potential to be a dangerous striker having scored 22 goals in spain, and clearly shows it with his most recent finish..management was a bit frazzled about the striking core, and felt pressure for a quick fix to sheva's vacancy. So, we signed ronaldo! and hoped his hype would occupy people's imaginations...this is why im intruiged to see if he outscores our top scorer..
..all pointless now anyways as hell never be a milan player again, but theres nothing wrong with voicing my opinion against management. im almost positive hell score more than gilardino will this season..anyone disagree? itd be a good bet. i also bet that KaRoLi could have been really effective, and probably a lot of fun to watch.

Heh heh. I think I already mentioned this, when Oli was coming in, a couple of guys who regularly watch La Liga had told me that this was a great buy, and this bloke was on his day better than Torres. Guess it's only in Spain. I'm convinced Oli was just for the benefit of Assis, and to sweeten up the R10 deal. But now that that's not happening, we unloaded him and flipped Assis the bird. But for what it's worth, sell Pato, bring back Oli...oh wait Oli already belongs to us (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) It would be nice to have him though, especially if Pippo were to retire. Maybe loan him out next season to a Serie A club.

QUOTE Gila's two goals to Lazio only came after we were leading 1-3, so they were not that decisive imo Sorry to disagree, but I count Kaka's penalty as an assist from Gila. (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) And, wasn't the forum complaining that Milan's big issue was we don't shut our opponents off. Well Gila did just that. Besides his contribution was visible besides the goals. Gila imo was the best player on the pitch after Kaka. I'm not saying this is his turning point, my brotherhood would have to dissolve if it were, but he had a great match.

But come on, he's 18, I think people are believing the hype a little too much. Although I do believe in the hype (mostly because it's been a while since we had a young unknown player in our hands -- that we're actually planning to use that is...) I won't be too disappointed and not too surprised if he didn't make an impact... But he has more experience than Messi had when he broke into Barcelona's senior squad... and if he's half as good as Messi was back then... I'm gonna love him!

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Oct 11 2007, 12:33 AM) The Argentine and Brazilian leagues in my opinion are just a very pooor version of the Spanish league. In my view, he's not played one worthy game as of yet. That doesn't mean anything. That is still much bigger than what Messi, Krkić and Dos Santos had experienced. And while Messi is a rare find, Pato is not less talented than the other too, judging from what I've seen! Pato could become very important for us next season!

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Oct 10 2007, 10:38 PM) I think some people on here are going to be in for one hell of a shock when Pato starts playing. He's not played a real competitive match.. EVER! Oli was a top striker in Spain and found it hard here, Pato has spent his career playing in a second rate Spanish league. If Pato makes any noticable impact at all for the first season or two, I'd be very surprised. But come on, he's 18, I think people are believing the hype a little too much. I'm not expecting him to turn it on .. On the contrary, I'm expecting him to implement certain tactics and be fluid with the team's movements .. That is for now of course .. About Oli .. There are players that can't handle the pressure of playing for a BIG club .. And they thrive in those smaller clubs .. And I believe Oli is that type of player; at Milan his movement was good (off the ball), but once he got the ball he ruins almost any chance of a dangerous play!! How do I think Pato will turn out ? I think he will be a BIG surprise for us all .. He might even show something more than Gourcuff had shown. Still I have to wait and see how he handles himself in San Siro, that is the real test.

QUOTE (Jack Sparrow @ Oct 10 2007, 03:46 PM) Sorry to disagree, but I count Kaka's penalty as an assist from Gila. Yes, he secured our win, good! but remember we should score two or three goals first and then kill off the game. Gila's problem is that he usually fails to deliver the former. Giving Milan a two or three goal lead is more important than expanding the lead to five! but still I'm happy for what he did in Lazio game.

QUOTE Oliveira Explains Sister Kidnap Nightmare AC Milan-owned striker Ricardo Oliveira has revealed the nightmare ordeal he went through when his sister was kidnapped last year, and says he would like to return to the Rossoneri next season.
Kidnap
Oliveira joined Milan last summer from Real Betis but had a dreadful campaign in the fashion capital scoring just three goals in 26 games.
One of the key reasons for his under-par performances was due to the fact his sister, Maria Lourdes, was kidnapped in Brazil in October of 2006. She was eventually released unharmed in March the following year, but Oliveira had to spend most of the season under intense stress.
“I arrived in Italy and after a month my sister was kidnapped,†explained Oliveira.
“They freed her after six months, the longest abduction in the history of the state of Sao Paulo.
“There were weeks when no news arrived, other weeks where the news was ghastly and I was sent messages like “we will kill your sisterâ€.
“In those conditions it was difficult to play.â€
Milan Wish
Oliveira joined Real Zaragoza on loan this pre-season and he has shown signs of returning to his best form, scoring seven La Liga goals so far.
Despite this the 27-year-old is keen to move back to San Siro, provided he gets a chance to play regularly.
“I would like to return to Milan next season,†said Oliveira.
“I still follow their games, I speak to Ricky [Kaka], I ask how we are doing and I am a fan.
“However if a football player cannot be promised that he will play always, it is pointless coming back.â€
goal.com i was really sorry for him not to succed at milan last year, but he had a though time...he was excellent striket before his injurie and kidnap came in...hoping for him to return to milan and show his talent...

I would even take him in January, we are in desperate need of choices up front.

I don't know ... I just don't rate him .. In Spain he has a lot more space to express himself, but in Serie A. He chokes. And not just him, even the best of players find it difficult at times, i.e. Ricky or Clarence, also Gila ... Though i have seen Oli, live in the Milan Lazio game (first game of last season) on his debut he came on and scored from a corner ... he showed promise, but back then Milan was given way to much spaces ... Once the teams started to close down on him .. He really was useless (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I mean, we all saw Broochi at Fiorentina ... Almost 60% of this forum where of the opinion that he would do wonders at Milan, almost 30% thought he would do great coming off the bench to help out pirlo or Gennaro ... NOW, no one rates him (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Yeah, whatever, bring back Oliveira (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I saw him twice last year (v. Messina in November and v. Udinese in May). I was underwhelmed both times, yet he seems to thrive in Spain.
I know there were horrible personal circumstances for Oliveira last year but I wonder if this may be a case of a good player whose game is suited to one league and who just doesn't quite suit another.

QUOTE (dst @ Oct 11 2007, 06:39 AM) He will show more cause he will play more... and he will play more cause he's Brazilian! (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I don't think the Brazilian thing has anything to do with it. It's the fact that it's much harder to break into our midfield with guys like Rino, Pirlo, Kaka, seedorf, etc. Then it is to break into our attack, when we usually only have 2 strikers Also the fact that Carlo doesn't like to stray from his ridged system, is a big obstacle for Yoann. QUOTE (dst @ Dec 13 2007, 08:48 PM) I would even take him in January, we are in desperate need of choices up front. Yep. If Pippo and R9 keep getting injured with the frequancy they have been recently and Pato takes his time to adjust we will be in desperate need for another stiker.
