Well, I'm back from the DC -LA game. It was an interesting experience. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Good game, all things considered, even though DC missed three or four absolute sitters. It started bucketing right after the second half started and even though I was in the fifth row, it was hard to see what was going on. The loud squeals alerted me to the fact that Beckham came on -- he did have one good, bending free kick but was otherwise not much of a factor in the game.

There were a couple of new chants by the DC fans tonight:

'Landon Donovan's the p*ssy of the year' (true, this one. bad overacting on challenges that'd make even an Argentine blush).

and my personal favourite: 'We sing better than your wife does'. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Nice chants. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I'm assuming the score was 0-0?

Oh, oops. Score was 1-0 DC. Luciano Emilio (the MLS leading scorer) in the 27th. Abel Xavier pretty much singlehandedly stopped it from being more than that, not counting the sitters. DC dominated the game though LA did have a few decent chances.

Nice result.. Though LA are hardly the best of teams. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Abel Xavier! One wonders why he EVER played for Liverpool. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

P.S. I just heard on SSN that the DC-LA game last night was the 4th highest attendance in MLS history, not bad. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Portuguese SuperCup: FCPorto 0-1 Sporting Lisbon

Boring match. Good goal by Izmailov (from Russia NT).

Sporting wins the SuperCup 1 week after losing a friendly to Benfica (1-0 too).

What a screamer by Izmailov! I only watched 15 minuted of the second half and luckily enough I saw him spurt that rocket! Oh, yeah... I also saw Quaresma pass three times, all three with a back-heel... I so hate that kind of players! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Quaresma didn't play on the wing today. Weird tactics by Porto coach...

I think they'll miss Pepe in the back-4 and Anderson creativity. They missed Lucho tonight but still... they should have done a lot better.

Sporting didn't play any good or so but it was enough. Moutinho (CM), Liedson (FW) and Veloso (DM) are their best players in the squad by far now.

Hrm.

The second Superliga semifinal between DC United and the LA Galaxy has just started. Abel Xavier has a new hairdo! And..oh good lord. Beckham is starting and has the captain's armband.

Pachuca beat Houston yesterday in the other semi.

No crown, cape and staff? (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Do keep me updated, the MLS site's been awfully slow with me today. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

15th min in, the two best chances so far have been DC's. LA doesn't look dire like they have most of the season, but the DC defense hasn't really been troubled much yet. And the pitch is shamefully bad, even worse than the re-striped American football fields that some teams use.

EDIT: Landon Donovan must be part Argentine. He's had a couple of pretty spectacular aerial 'trips' really close to the box. The ref hasn't fallen for it yet. And no, no cape and crown, though there was a special photo session with him and the refereeing staff and there have been a lot of crowd shots of Posh.

Goal Beckham off of a free kick in the 28th. The DC keeper didn't even move.
