Leonardo hails super Pato

Leonardo brokered the deal for Kaka and has done the same for Alexandre Pato, revealing what the new Milan sensation can achieve.

The Rossoneri beat competition from Real Madrid, Chelsea and rivals Inter to snap up the Brazilian Under-20 World Cup star by paying his £10m buy-out clause from Internacional.

“I am happy, as I think this is a signing that can give everyone a lot of joy,” Leonardo told ‘Milan Channel.’

“It was a good transfer operation in true Milan style, involving everyone. I am really glad for the boy and for Milan.”

Although he will not be able to take part in official games until January, Pato can play in friendly games from September 3 when he turns 18 due to Italian work laws.

Leonardo returned to the San Siro club this summer as a transfer consultant after a spell working as a television pundit in Britain, Italy and Brazil.

It was he who brokered the Kaka deal back in 2003 with Sao Paolo and proved decisive once again in beating the competition for the hottest new talent.

“Milan have a structure and atmosphere that help us and I am only part of that,” said the modest World Cup winner.

“Pato will find many Brazilians here who will help him and his family is very close to him, as is normal for a 17-year-old. There are a series of elements that will aid his passage to Europe.”

As the official Rossoneri website confirms, there was also strong interest in the player from Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter.

“Many clubs observed him and when Milan track a player, other sides pay a little more attention. But his agent was also convinced from the start that Milan were the right destination.

“Milan manage to win players over and that atmosphere, that air of victory, really helps transfers to reach a conclusion.”

Coach Carlo Ancelotti has warned that Pato is still too young to be considered the finished article, but Leonardo has more faith in the teenager.

“His behaviour has been mature from the moment he started. He became a first team player in a side that had just won the Copa Libertadores when he was still playing for the Under-17 team.

“There are many things that give me the impression Pato has the character to grow quickly. That step up in quality is mainly a psychological issue and Kaka took that brilliantly. Pato has the chance to do it too, but we must give him time and space,” added Leonardo.

“I think that Pato also understood this is why Milan is the place for him. This is such a stable club, it gives players the ease of mind and protection to develop. That is crucial.”

Pato will arrive today in Milano... probably at night. He'll leave Brazil at 14:00 (about 18:00/19:00 in Europe).

Another thing:

"I've the opportunity to know Ronaldo personally and to play with him.
"I'm happy that my life is going really well.
"And now it's going to be even better. I'm going to play with my idol [Ronaldo]."

If I was living in Milano, I'd give a big warm welcome to Pato!
Really can't wait for him to arrive.

I hope we extend Ronaldo's contract at least for one more year because he's fundamental in Pato's progress.

Pato is the natural replacement for Ronaldo, not only in Milan but in the NT too.

Kinda funny when Ronaldo turns 33-34 (retire?), Pato will be 20-21.

Pato Has Already Beaten Pelé Record

(IMG:http://www.goal.com/images/21628_news.jpg)

He is the youngest goalscorer in the history of official Fifa competitions.

He wears braces, he has some acne on his face, and likes to put gel on his hair: a normal adolescence which stands in contrast to an explosive career, an elegant technique, and extraordinary speed on the ball. With that childlike face, which is still going through a period of transition, a temporary phase in his growth process, Pato has already broken a record set by Pele, who is an ambassador of football in the world, and a divinity for all Brazilians.

Pato is the youngest player ever to score in an official Fifa competition: he scored his first goal aged 17 years and 102 days, during the semifinal of the 2006 Club World Cup won (2-1) by Internacional Porto Alegre against Egyptian side Al-Ahli. In the record books, he has overtaken Pelé, who in the 1958 World Cup scored against Wales aged 17 years and 239 days.

All the chavs do that kind of thing in England. It's so very, very sad.

Jack and kurtsimonw thanks for trying to explain (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) .

p.s.: Jack - equivalent for the budweiser Whazzaaaaaa (don't know what that means - except that budweiser is a beer name)?

p.s.: kurtsimonw - ...but who or what are chavs?

Chav: (Taken from Wikipedia)
Chav is a mainly derogatory slang term in the United Kingdom for a subcultural stereotype fixated on fashions derived from American Hip-Hop, such as gold jewellery and designer clothing combined with elements of working class British street fashion. Chavs are generally considered to have no respect for society, and to be ignorant or unintelligent. The term appeared in mainstream dictionaries in 2005.

Budweiser Ads (Real classics, can't believe you don't know 'em!)
Budweiser 'Wassup!' Ad

The Film Scary Movie did a parady of the ad, pretty funny stuff. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Scary Movie Wassup!

The hand gesture Pato is using is what people did when the TV ad was aired, immitating the phone kind of thing. Well, there ya go. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
