Livorno are looking to a future without Cristiano Lucarelli and it’s rumoured they have found his replacement in Milan’s Marco Borriello.
The Amaranto captain has not yet confirmed his departure from the Stadio Picchi, but has made it clear he is on the verge of a summer switch, leaving a gaping hole in the side.
President Aldo Spinelli is already at work on finding a new striker and newspaper ‘Tuttosport’ suggests he has held talks with Milan for benchwarmer Borriello.
The former Under-21 international sat out a ban this season for failing a random drugs test and has not been fielded since his return on March 21.
A 23-year-old tall centre-forward, Borriello would be a young and inexpensive replacement for hitman Lucarelli.
Other options are also on the table, as it’s claimed Livorno are making a bid for Sampdoria’s injury-prone Fabio Bazzani and Avellino’s 28-year-old striker Raffaele Biancolino.
The defence will also be improved with the arrival of Inter’s youngster Marco Andreolli on a loan deal.
