Amauri: I’ll be backPalermo striker Amauri is confident that he will be fully fit for the start of next season as he continues his rehabilitation from knee surgery.
The Rosanero limped out of the last match of 2006 after a collision with Siena goalkeeper Alex Manninger and was operated on in Rome by Professor Pierpaolo Mariani, the specialist who contributed to Francesco Totti’s amazing recovery after he fractured his ankle last year.
“I am feeling fairly good and I am looking forward to continuing the work I started in Rome in the past few months,†said the Brazilian to the club’s website after returning to Palermo on Monday.
“I want to be ready for next season’s kick-off, I want to be at my best,†added the striker.
“To be honest, I have only watched two matches since I was sidelined, it makes me sad to see my teammates play without me being able to give my contribution.â€
Palermo had an impressive start to the season, but their recent performances have left them in real danger of losing their grip on a Champions League spot, as the islanders are tailed closely by Lazio, Empoli and Milan.
“I have always said that any team can go through a difficult moment and that is what is happening to Palermo, nothing more than that,†explained Amauri.
“I am sure we will soon return to our best form. I don’t believe that the team’s performances depend on my presence, we might have been in the same situation even with me on the pitch.
“The only thing I hope is that my return next season will maybe bring back some of the luck that we have been lacking recently and that is essential to achieve important results.â€
Palermo will host in-form Fiorentina over the weekend in what promises to be an intriguing clash, as the Viola are eight points shy of a Champions League spot despite their initial 15-point penalisation.
