Roberto Mancini is confident that an Adriano-less Inter can still deliver qualification in Tuesday’s Champions League decider against Valencia.

The tactician this evening confirmed that the injured Brazilian will miss the second leg in Spain, but Mancio is remaining optimistic that his side can reach the last eight despite the dangerous 2-2 first leg result.

“Adriano won’t be part of the 18 man squad,” the former Italian international stated.

"If I were to crack a joke then I could tell you that Adriano has been left out because he went to the disco last night…

“But joking aside, he unfortunately still hasn't made a complete recovery from the thigh injury that we were hoping was less serious. We hope to have him back for the next match against Milan.

“As for the game tomorrow, I'm pleased with how the team played in the first leg before Valencia's first goal.

“We had missed a lot of chances and we slowed down a bit after their first equaliser. We then picked up. We can win tomorrow if we're a bit more careful.”

It’s going to be tough for the Nerazzurri though, even if Mancio seems unconcerned by Valencia’s 100 per cent record at the Mestalla in Europe this term.

“They’ve won every match here? There's always a first time for everything,” responded the ex-Lazio tactician.

“We are a team with a winning mentality, that has always been the case, but these things don’t always count in the Champions League.

“The Champions League is a different competition to the rest as the first leg showed when I don’t think Valencia deserved a draw.”

Tactically speaking, Mancini hinted that Dejan Stankovic and Olivier Dacourt would feature, but he gave little else away.

“Stankovic and Dacourt are okay, but I'm keeping my thoughts to myself. We just have to play our game. Considering the quality of the two teams on the pitch, it will be an open match.

“They have an extraordinary attack so we'll have to be very careful in defence. At the moment they are one of the strongest and most difficult teams to face.

“We are two sides who are prepared tactically. After that it's the world-class players who are decisive. And both Inter and Valencia have these players.”
