Nesta: Four more years Defender Alessandro Nesta has dismissed rumours suggesting he might return to Lazio. “I am staying at Milan for four more years,†he said.
The Rossonero is currently in Miami completing his treatment for the shoulder injury, which has kept him sidelined him since November 26, but he might be back in action by the end of March.
“I have read many things in the papers, including that I would never come back to Italy from Miami,†said Nesta in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Instead, I am coming back on February 26, but I am not considering the idea of returning to Rome. My contract expires in 2008, with my injury I don’t think this is the right time to discuss an extension,†added the former Biancoceleste.
“Moving back to Lazio would make no sense now, that was a wonderful part of my life, but I am still young and I want to play at the highest levels, preferably in the Champions League.â€
The player will join the rest of the squad at the end of the month and hopes he will soon end his long convalescence.
“It will still take a few weeks before I can actually touch the ball. Bill Tilson at Milan Lab also joined me here in Miami to help me rehabilitate.
“My future? I don’t know yet. I don’t think I will ever play in the MLS, although I like Miami a lot. If I extend my deal with Milan for four more years, that is where I will end my career.
“I like life in the United States and there would be great opportunities for my children. In any case, I prefer football there rather than in Japan or the Arab nations,†concluded Nesta.
