MILAN ON CRUISE CONTROL

A Kaka-inspired AC Milan cruised to a comprehensive victory over Udinese at the Stadio Friuli on Saturday.

The Brazilian star produced a virtuoso midfield display to put the game out of Udinese's reach before half-time.

He handed the Rossoneri the lead after 31 minutes with a coolly-taken penalty after he had been hauled down in the area by Giampiero Pinzi.

And the visitors doubled their advantage just four minutes later when Alberto Gilardino scored with a stunning acrobatic volley.

The imperious Kaka was withdrawn just seven minutes into the second period, but the damage was already done.

But there was still time for Milan to score a third, though, as Ricardo Oliveira took advantage of some casual defending from the home defence to seal the three points late on.

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti was without the services of Daniele Bonera, who was serving a one-match ban, while Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf was recalled to the starting XI after being rested for the 3-0 win over Catania in midweek.

Udinese chief Giovanni Galeone was without key duo Raffaele De Martino and Sulley Muntari. De Martino was serving a one-match suspension after being sent off during Wednesday's 2-1 win over Atalanta, while Ghanaian midfielder Muntari was serving the second game of a three-match ban.

Milan, buoyed by their first win in four games against Catania on Wednesday, started brightly and were only prevented from taking the lead after seven minutes by a brilliant piece of goalkeeping from Morgan De Sanctis.

Seedorf unleashed a stinging drive from the edge of the box that looked destined for the top corner, but De Sanctis acrobatically clawed the ball away for a corner.

The Bianconeri struggled to get a foothold in the game in the opening stages and only had Antonio Di Natale's long-range strike down the throat of Zeljko Zalac to show for their efforts.

But Milan's dominance was rewarded just after the half-hour when Kaka scored from the spot.

And Milan had to wait just four minutes before doubling their advantage.

Marek Jankulovski produced a scintillating run down the left wing and his cross was tamely cleared by Cristian Zapata into the path of Gilardino.

The Italian striker produced an outrageous piece of skill to send a thundering half-volley flying past a shellshocked De Sanctis.

Udinese were on the ropes and they nearly went even further behind before the break but Gilardino and Cafu both missed clear openings.

The closest Galeone's side came to pulling a goal back was through Antoniotheir prized asset Vincenzo Iaquinta. The powerful forward, who has been linked with a January move to Milan, struck a fierce free-kick from 25 yards, but if flew narrowly over Zeljko Kalac's crossbar.

Udinese started the second half with renewed vigour and twice came close to dragging themselves back into the game.

Firstly Giampiero Pinzi was denied by an athletic save from Kalac, and then Paulo Vito Barreto could only shoot wide from eight yards after being teed up by Di Natale.

And they were made to pay for their profligacy as Oliveira broke free to net a third for Milan after 76 minutes.

A stunning long pass from Christian Brocchi was brought down on the chest by the Brazilian forward and he calmly lotted the ball past De Sanctis to wrap up a convincing win for Ancelotti's improving side.

A great game.

Congrats to Gila and Oliv for showing their form.

This shows that Milan still has it in them to make things happen. The problem is consistency.

A couple more days and hopefully we'll see some new signings and I think we can at least qualify for the UEFA cup.

Hehe, Pirlo's never been at Lecce. He actually said he was forced to play as CB when Milan was playing Lecce in January 2005. Nesta got sent off, we didn't have any substitutions left and so Carlo put him in the centre uphold Maldini. Remember the match? It was the match when Sheva lifted the Golden Ball around San Siro, and in the end we won 5-2. Ah, memories... ANDREA PIRLO

Coach Ancelotti asked me to play as a defender. It is not something I am used to doing, but I had done it already in Lecce. 2007 is going to be a great year for us, I'm sure of it.

And I thought it was strange cause I was certain that Pirlo never was a Lecce but I thought maybe they made a mistake and instead meant to say Brescia

I like the formation. THat's how to play these teams from now on, especially away. We've been sussed out for sooo long, so the teams now in seria A know they only need to sit back, absorb the pressure and hit us on counters. So "choking up" the midfield is like playing them at their own game (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) It only took CA so long to discover that cos he's dumb. Yeah, I know Berlu always insisted on 2 strikers (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Anyone know why Kaka got annoyed when CA pulled him off?. He got angry and stormed right past the bench and into the dressing room. I don't like seeing such scenes, 'specially now that Real sniffing around (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) My MoM? Pirlo. For playing central defence when Kaladze went off. I would never have believed it posiible. And Oli got his goal.
