Vieri demands Moratti explanation

Christian Vieri has demanded an explanation from Massimo Moratti after it was revealed that the Inter chief had someone spy on him.

The latest scandal broke out last week, when the newspapers revealed hundreds of interceptions over the past few years conducted by Telecom Italia, one of Inter’s shareholders.

“I am very disappointed and would like to know why Moratti behaved like this – we had a very good relationship and I didn’t expect anything like this,” said Vieri.

“I guess six years of my life and 133 goals were not enough to earn Inter’s trust.”

The Atalanta man has asked the FIGC Investigation Office to open a file and will claim damages from Telecom Italia, while he is considering the idea of suing Moratti and the club.

“Christian has no intention of ignoring this issue. His private life is continuously violated and he has now decided to counter attack,” said Vieri’s lawyer Danilo Buongiorno.

“He felt betrayed but he his not looking for revenge. He only wants to understand what happened and why it happened, in order to protect his privacy.”

Spalletti respects San Siro sides

Roma may be top of the Serie A table, but Luciano Spalletti warns they’re still not up to the level of Inter and Milan.

“In my view, Inter have a little something more than us, which for that matter so do Milan,” said the Coach.

“We have fans who give us their contagious enthusiasm and we’re working in an important city. You can’t help but be motivated in these conditions, not to mention the passion I’ve had for the sport ever since I started out as a player.”

The Giallorossi had finished fifth last term, which became second place following the Calciopoli scandal, but following their strong start can consider themselves Scudetto contenders.

“I think we’re stronger than last season. We tried to improve the squad over the summer and to a degree we achieved that objective. Francesco Totti told the Press he wanted more signings because he obviously has ambitions for this side and wants to charge up the team. We all want to improve.”

Totti has gone on hiatus from the Azzurri until 2007 in order to achieve full fitness after fracturing his ankle in February.

“It’s always a wonderful feeling when your players are called for international duty,” assured Spalletti. “I think most players feel the same way and Roma have never tried to put obstacles in their path.”

Roma have also impressed in the Champions League and with rumours of a contract extension, it’s believed Spalletti can implement a new successful era at the Stadio Olimpico.

“We have been doing well for quite a while now. Apart from looking at individual performances, there has been a consistency and general approach to the sport that I have appreciated. This is the most important thing.”

Mancio set for Inter extension

Thursday 12 October, 2006 . channel4.com

Reports in Italy are suggesting that Inter are set to extend Roberto Mancini’s contract, despite the Nerazzurri’s disappointing start in the season.

Market consultant Lele Oriali is one of the Coach’s top supporters and he has been trying to schedule a meeting between Mancini and owner Massimo Moratti to discuss the details.

Furthermore, the club’s intentions seem to be confirmed by the fact that the Nerazzurri boss has just bought a house in the centre of Milan.

Inter are struggling to find their best form in both the championship and the Champions League and the lack in results has also been put down to an alleged rift between Mancini and his men.

Oriali believes that an extension to the boss’s contract may represent a solution to the crisis, which has led to speculation about possible replacements.

Sven Goran Eriksson is the first man on the list, although Inter could also offer him a job as a team manager and not as a Coach.

Chelsea boss José Mourinho and former Inter tactician Hector Cuper have also been mentioned.

In the meantime, the former Lazio man has been planning ahead and has eyed two Lyon midfielders as his next transfer targets.

Inter may net Alou Diarra as early as January and Florent Malouda at the end of the season, but are also still interested in Francesco Tavano, who is struggling to establish himself at Valencia.
