Incredible. On sunday he made super-mega-extra saves against Lazio, and now look what he does. Incredible. Oh, and did anyone see that Corona from Catania? What a player, never heard of him before.

Betting duo banned!

The Disciplinary Commission has handed Francesco Flachi of Sampdoria and Atalanta’s Moris Carrozzieri two-month bans as the result of a betting enquiry.

The two players were indicted in October 2005 and August 2006, and were accused of “trying to obtain information on the final result of some football matches, in order to allow third parties to place their bets and be sure to win.”

The matches in question were Roma-Lazio in Serie A and Pisa-Frosinone in Serie C1, both dating back to 2004-05, when Flachi (pictured) and Carrozzieri played for Samp.

Flachi was accused of trying to obtain information on the Rome derby by contacting his former teammate Fabio Bazzani on behalf of a group of gamblers in Liguria, while Carrozzieri called Gian Luca De Angelis of Frosinone to see if his team “would be content with a draw.”

The Commission based their investigation on telephone interceptions and decided to ban the players because of their behaviour, which proved to be “against the duties of loyalty, integrity and honesty.”

Sampdoria were also deemed guilty of objective responsibility in this case and were sentenced to pay a €20,000 fine to the Lega Calcio.

Toni cleared of red card
Thursday 21 September, 2006

Fiorentina striker Luca Toni has escaped a ban for his wrongful dismissal, but Patrick Vieira of Inter has been slapped with a three game stop.

Toni was sent off in last night’s 1-0 win over Parma for what the referee believed was an elbow on Massimo Paci.

However, the disciplinary panel have cleared the Italian of foul play and handed Paci a two-match ban for simulation instead.

Paci’s punishment comes just hours after the player admitted there was no contact between the two. “He didn’t elbow me,” said the Gialloblu man.

Meanwhile, Vieira has been handed a three-match suspension after his early bath against Roma last night.

The former Juventus player, sent off against Sporting Lisbon last week, was booked twice but has been heavily penalised for using foul and abusive language towards the referee.

Palermo midfielder Fabio Simplicio, who picked up one yellow card too many against Catania, has been served with the normal one-game penalty.

Roma suffer Mancini loss
Thursday 21 September, 2006

The plans of Roma boss Luciano Spalletti have been hit by an injury to key midfielder Amantino Mancini.

The Brazilian limped out of the side’s 1-0 home defeat to Inter last night and tests have confirmed what was first feared.

The former Venezia man has pulled a muscle in his left thigh and will be out until October 15, with his return pencilled in for the game against Reggina.

The loss of the South American has further complicated the work of Spalletti whose treatment room is filling up.

Brazilian winger Rodrigo Taddei is struggling with an ankle problem, while Francesco Totti is still some way off his best and could be rested for the trip to Parma.

The Giallorossi will also still be without both summer signings Mirko Vucinic and Gilberto Martinez on Sunday.

However, the Serbian striker could return to action at the start of October when the capital side take on Empoli at the Olimpico.
