Interesting theory. I have one too. If your first team is not Milan, then you are not really a Milan fan. And you certainly can't tell Milan fans how to be real Milan fans. Maybe I should explain the meaning of irony to you allover again.

Even if Milan are your 18th team you're still a true Rossoneri if you stick by the team through thick and thin.

Maybe you want to look up 'loyalty' rather than 'irony'.

QUOTE (Fillipo Simone @ Aug 4 2014, 08:56 AM) *
Man, you've got it all wrong here. Tennie is and always will be nothing but a true Rossonero. She watched Milan games before you and me even knew how to spell the players names. And she's still a Milan fan, I know that for a fact (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

It's only that the recent management-related things got her to watch different teams and milder down their support. I don't think it's bad.

I do. If anything stops you supporting the team, you're not a true fan. My only requirement for being a true fan of a club is sticking with your love no matter what happens on and off the pitch.

QUOTE
For example, say we have a time machine and it brings you to Italy 1930-something. Would you still support Milan, even if you knew that Lazio and Milan are the designated fascist clubs?

That's so scarily close to the Godwin Theory I wouldn't even know where to start!

QUOTE (X-Offender @ Aug 3 2014, 11:49 PM) *
Over the years my support for this team has never faltered. On the contrary, I'd say I've become even more fanatic as now I also see things more in depth, whereas previously when I was younger I was mostly just an avid fan.

However, one thing has changed, drastically, and that is the passion I watch every game. In the Ancelotti years I would literally scream every time we'd scored, be it against Juventus or against Modena. I would get chills before every important game, and watch each game with incredible intensity. Nowadays, I rarely get that feeling. Because there isn't anything we're capable of fighting for. Every game is a constant, a mediocrity, a borefest.

The passion inside of me has died down, and considering the sad state we're in nowadays I don't know if it'll ever come back. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I'd agree with this tbh. I don't exactly feel passion in the way I used to, although I still get excited over Milan playing. The sight of red and black will always make me feel good, even if I don't scream much now when Muntari bundles one over from a yard.

Sure. You can have your girlfriend and be loyal to your mistress as well (In some twisted sort of logic). Just don't give me relationship advice.

I think Danny's opening post was a suggestion of who would no longer be supporting the team if we were to get worse. Whether Milan are your 1st team or your 100th team, if you stop being a fan then quite obviously, by definition, you aren't a fan any more.

The idea that people who follow their local clubs, and Milan, aren't "true" fans or whatever. I just don't buy it. That's as ridiculous as saying people not from Milan can't be true Milan fans because it's not even your city.

I don't even have a first team. I see myself as two football supporters. One who's dedicated to Rangers, one to Milan.

I don't even see myself as half one team half the other. So for me it's not 50% Rangers and 50% Milan, it's 100% both.

My Rangers identity and support I see as completely separate to Milan, albeit I do like looking at the relationship between the clubs and fans down the years.

Oddly enough the only real dissenter (that I recall) to my OP was indeed Max, who's rambling on about affairs and irony.

Yeah. I've had people say that to me in the past. What difference does it make whether I'm from Milan or not? Absolutely ludicrous.

What would you do if Milan and Rangers faced each other in a final or semi-final?

I'm really not being serious. But I feel the op's point is just as non-sensical. No-one likes glory hunters, but you can't deny that people like me, dst, "mab", J. Sp etc... are much less into this team right now. I personally don't feel like less of a fan in anyways. It's just how we deal with the situation. I don't have any other team I'm flocking to either. In fact I'm not interested in football like I used to be. Not even close. Are you telling me that I was never really a football fan? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Needless to say, I disagree with danny completely.

Being less into the team doesn't make you less of a fan, though. I'd even class myself in the same category as you guys.

Although I recall Villa have played Inter about 5 times, I don't think Villa and Milan have ever played. If it hasn't happened in 115 years, I don't think I need to worry about it happening in my lifetime. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Been asked this a million times (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Before 2012 when Rangers & Milan could have met in CL it had never actually happened in my lifetime. Every CL draw was still met with 'please don't put them together' but it never happened. Indeed their only competitive meeting in history was in 1958 when Milan won.

I've loved the numerous friendlies down the years - in the past 20 there have been 3 - one win each and one draw.

However, in 2012 Rangers were 'relegated' (long and messy story) to 4th tier of Scottish football. Next season we're playing in the second top one and thereafter if we get promoted it'll be the SPL top flight again. However with only one CL spot now for the winners of the SPL it'll be years before Rangers win the SPL again, and even then the winner is put into the second qualifying round of the CL - and Celtic just lost 4-1 in Warsaw in their first leg so will probably be out before the group stage.

Meanwhile Milan are crumbling further away from the CL spots so while Rangers are a trillion miles away from CL, Milan are a billion.

So it's not a conundrum I need to lose any sleep over (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

But in truth I would be 100% neutral I think. And I'd keep my views on the result totally to myself.

But...it'll probably never ever happen, like El-Kurto I don't see it happening in my lifetime given it hasn't yet. And the odds have lengthened with both clubs' decline. Considerably.

Wow that was a ramble (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I think you've missed my point. My point is anyone who abandons this club isn't a true fan. I didn't say those who feel less into it and enjoy it less aren't. I can't lie and say I am enjoying Milan right now, but I'm not stopping supporting.

Do feel like our minds are wired very differently on this.

Yes, it's natural to be less enthusiastic these days. Hard to be excited when your team playing shitty football and being managed by a senile person who needs to retire (two of them, actually). Sometimes you have some other sh!t in your life, much more important than sports, that keeps you less interested for a while. But to stop watching and following the team altogether or being some asshole glory hunter and just move on to other top team (I don't think Milan have many of those left after recent years) is a completely different thing.

BTW, Danny, I wouldn't link leaving the forum with this for the most part. This forum is frozen in 2008 without an active admin, so it's not surprising that many older members moved on to facebook, more updated sites and so on. Even if you could register, I don't think that you'd see many new members over here.

and other teams you follow, even. I wouldn't call myself a glory hunter, but I follow teams in 5 different sports, it's only natural to be able to invest more time into the ones that entertain you/have a chance to do something.

Then like you say, just life in general.
