QUOTE Spanish Press slam Canna The Spanish Press were scathing about Fabio Cannavaro’s poor performance in Real Madrid’s Champions League defeat to Lyon.
The Merengues were beaten 2-0 after being outplayed by the French outfit in all departments, with the Azzurri captain one of the worst players on the pitch.
“Nothing worked for Real Madrid and what was even more amazing was the horrible performance offered by Cannavaro,†said AS on Thursday.
“The defender was the symbol of a chaotic Real Madrid and was involved in most of their worst moments.
“The No 5 was slow, insecure and confused, a perfect representative of this muddled and chaotic Real Madrid.â€
Cannavaro offered no excuses, admitting that the team did not play as expected on such an important occasion.
“We played an awful match, especially during the first half. Most of our mistakes, which were many, had to do with their physical superiority,†explained the former Juve man to the club’s website.
“I don’t think it was a concentration problem because when you face teams like Lyon your concentration peaks automatically.
“We are worried, but we want to get back on track as soon as possible. This is just the beginning of the season and these things can happen.â€
Coach Fabio Capello also revealed his disappointment with the performance, although he remains confident of qualification.
“Of course I am unhappy after this match, but we have to lift our heads, think positively and concentrate on what lies ahead,†said Don Fabio.
“We have a great deal of work to do, but I have confidence in my team. I am sure that we will recover from this and the home match with Dynamo Kiev gives us a chance to redeem ourselves.†Imo Nesta has always been the better one of the two. Canna was great when he was at Parma, then he moved to Inter, and that's where he lost his way. He was average for Juve but he had an almost super human like world cup. I'm still happy that the Inter Canna is playing for Real, they got what they deserved for constantly tapping up players of other clubs most importantly for tapping up Kaka. And this will only make me happy, I would bet money that Real, even with Cappello will still be in the black whole they have been living in for these past few seasons. Which is great news for us since no top player like Kaka would want to go to a club like that

QUOTE (Portugal @ Sep 14 2006, 03:46 PM) I think this new Real Madrid need time. You don't build a team in 1-2 months. They need time to start performing well, specially in Europe. I think they're pathetic. It's not a new Real Madrid, it's the same lame Real, only the coach and president have changed. But, haven't they changed constantly over the last 2-3 years? First was Perez, then Fernando MartÃn, now Calderon. Look at the choaches after Del Bosque left: Queiroz, Camacho, Remón, Luxemburgo, Lopez Caro and now Capello. And this only in the last 3 years. They change them every season. The same with the players. Real is like Inter, always the favourite with superstars in their squad but in the end they win nothing.

QUOTE (X-Offender @ Sep 14 2006, 01:36 AM) Nah, I think Lyon are strong enough to try and win the CL this year. And about our victory last season, you've got to admit they didn't let us play our game and we scored in the last 5 minutes, luckily. I honestly thought we were out, before Pippo put his leg in and we passed the turn. (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/devilsmiley.gif) hehe, yeah great Pippo! I really have a lot of respect for Lyon. They don't have the money we have and they sell key players like Essien and Diarra every year. Still they're one of the best teams out there...

The world's best team ever (29 spanish leagues + 9 CL) to a lame team like Perdenti? It's like comparing Milan to Palermo... The greatness of a team is much more than it's number of silverware IMO but yes Inter cannot be compared to Real !!! Still I don't agree with you on that Real need so much time to find her way cause the backbone is the same; what needs to be changed is the mentality and that is hard to do; IMO Capello was never up to that job ... but we'll see ...

(IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) No you can't compare their history, but they can be compared to Inter because of what they are becoming. Real have been slipping in 'Inter zone' for these past few years. The constant changing of coaches and players, is one indication. And I don't think that they will give their current players a chance to gel with eachother, if they fail this year another complete over-haul will happen just like at Inter. Their history cannot be compared with each other's YES, but their current situation is VERY comparable. QUOTE (han2503 @ Sep 15 2006, 12:02 AM) Their history cannot be compared with each other's YES, but their current situation is It's one thing comparing the "greatness" of a club and another to compare two squads/teams of the same period!!! I think we agree but we just talk things differently (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

QUOTE (Portugal @ Sep 14 2006, 09:44 PM) Like it or not, Inter won the paper scudetto + coppa + supercoppa. 3 titles in 1 season... Real no. Not a single one. They've the italian badge on their shirt... we know it was "given" but.. sadly it's there. About the coaches and players in and out, yes... you got a point there. Still, the Coppa Italia and Super cup? Who the hell gives a damn?? Look aat Milan for instance we don't even play the strongest B team for the coppa games. Inter always try their hardest in those games because they all know that it's teir only chance of silverware in the season. And yes the damn badge is still on that damn shirt. But does that signify that they are the BEST team in Italy and that they desereved it?? NOOO!!!!! That was just a gift from Guido Rossi because he knew that that was the only way for them to win anything that is worthwhile. And still what you said just points out how low Real have become. The only reason why you read 'European powerhouse Real Madrid' when you read an article is because of their history, not because it reflects what they are now. When calling Milan a powerhouse it is totally different, our history and record in the CL should be enought to indicate what we are.
