Pirlo extends Milan deal
Milan have guaranteed themselves the services of Andrea Pirlo for the next five years after extending his contract on Thursday.
The 27-year-old midfielder is now committed to the Rossoneri until 2011 and may probably end his career with the Via Turati outfit.
Pirlo landed at Milan in 2001 – after spells at Brescia, Reggina plus Inter – and has played 141 Serie A matches with the Rossoneri outfit, netting 25 goals.
He was one of the main protagonists of Italy’s victory in the 2006 World Cup, managing to score in Italy’s opening Germany 2006 win against Ghana.
He netted the Man of the Match award after that tie, something which he also did following the wins against Germany and France in the Final.
Pirlo was also voted third best player of the tournament behind Zinedine Zidane and Fabio Cannavaro.
The playmaker, who was part of the Azzurri squad defeated by France in the Euro 2008 qualifier on Wednesday, will be in Milan’s starting line-up for the San Siro debut on Sunday against Lazio.
