Napoli is another strong contender to land the killer blow, but I still wouldn't count the guys in blue and black out. They take it very personally!

Wasn't it Ibra who was called offside not so long ago because his head was over the line? It's not about being anal it's about the laws of the game. If Matri was even 1cm over the line then he is offside and the decision is correct, while ours is clearly the wrong decision.

UEFA explicitly says that in case of doubt, the linesman should let the game proceed. When Matri was 10-15 cm offside, and the linesman clearly could not see such minimal difference, then he shouldn't have stopped the game. Look, the last thing I wanna do is defend those cheating bastards, but we have to be objective and admit it was a regular goal.

Yeah it should never have been disallowed. I think the linesman probably saw video of the mistake he made in the first half and that played in the back of his mind when Matri went through.

All errors are not equal

Antonio Conte claims the two refereeing errors were equal, but Susy Campanale points out there’s a big difference.

So the Scudetto showdown was all square at San Siro, a point each and the title race remains in the balance. Such a shame a really entertaining game of football was overshadowed by refereeing mistakes. Even worse, the controversy dragged on after the final whistle with Antonio Conte’s refusal to understand a simple fact: the two errors were not equal.

Conte went on Sky Sport Italia after the match and engaged in a row with pundit and former Milan star Zvonimir Boban. “I find it unacceptable that you can compare the two and say one error was more damaging than the other. Both goals were incorrectly disallowed and are therefore equal. What, was our goal not worth as much? I see no difference whatsoever. They were both mistakes.”

Not all errors are equal, Antonio. When the entire stadium, viewing audience and even the referee – who started walking towards the centre circle until he spotted his linesman standing still – saw the ball cross the line by an arm’s length, then it is a massive, horrific, embarrassing mistake. It’s the kind of howler that forces people to demand video evidence in match situations and complain that Sepp Blatter is holding the sport back by resisting technology.

When Alessandro Matri is in line with the group of Milan players rushing in one direction as he moves in the other, then it’s a mistake, but one that happens often and is understandable. It seems to be only Juventus who go on every media outlet to complain loudly that something like this, or the other not exactly stonewall penalties they didn’t receive in their favour over recent weeks, is a sign of officials purposefully damaging the club.

Conte and his whinging Juve cohorts thought they were protecting the side by protesting at refereeing errors. Instead, they set the scene whereby such a massive mistake in their favour allows cynics to say it was because the linesman was affected by the constant atmosphere of moaning. ‘Of course Juventus were going to get the decision in their favour after all the fuss they kicked up,’ people will shout.

That’s not even mentioning the fact Milan would’ve gone 2-0 up in the first half when they were dominating the game, whereas Matri did equalise just moments after his goal was disallowed.

I’m afraid the reaction to these two incidents has really not helped Conte’s cause. If he can’t even admit the errors are nowhere near on the same scale, then how can he win back the respect of those cynics? Even the most ardent Juventus fan must admit those two incidents did not have an equal effect on the game, nor were they on a par in any other way.
