So the SPL has started already, seems a very early start. Maybe they want some rest before Euro 2012 starts. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Yeah, I thought that. Still, at least its competitive football back on the TV pre-seasons just don't do it for me and the Copa America has been 20% entertainment, 80% disappointment.

So Danny, any idea what the hold up on the Cuellar deal is? Seems to be taking forever.

Word is our boy Cuellar isn't overly thrilled about the loss of wages, and is waiting for Villa to grant him a pay off to make up for it. Which they haven't committed to.

Other theories, less believable, are that he's waiting for other clubs to make a move - Espanyol have been mentioned.

tbh, it's taken so long, I've actually stopped caring a bit. We've got Goian now, we're trying to bring in a few other defenders.

As Ally McCoist put it, it's 'kicking along' but Cuellar is not an immediate priority. Given he's injured and not available till September anyway.

We've had a problem getting rid of a few players. That's the downside of MON. While he's a very good manager, he seems to put players on big wages and then we struggle to shift them bcause nobody else will pay it.

QUOTE
Argentinian league to change

The Argentinian Football Association are to implement a radical change to the country's domestic competition with the top two divisions combining to make a 38-team tournament from 2012-13.

The motion, put forward by AFA president Julio Humberto Grondona, has been passed by 15 of the 20 top-flight teams.

The new competition will see the teams split into two zones of 19. Traditional rivals like River Plate and Boca Juniors will be kept apart but would then face each other in 'inter-zone' matches.

The top five teams in each zone will advance to the Championship Stage, to define the league winners, while the other 28 will play to avoid relegation.

It means River, who suffered relegation for the first time in their illustrious history in the recently-completed Clausura season, will spend just one season in the second tier before the new format comes into play.

That's really sad. River go down so they completely change their entire league. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

In England £40k is about normal for a good defender isn't it? We could only afford £25k at the absolute most.

Depends how you look at it. At the time Ashley Young was our top earner on £50k a week. So there really shouldn't have been many players on £40k.
