Lahm is not overrated.

He attacks fine, but defensively is trash. They'd have won Euro 2008 with a different left back, in my opinion. It was only a matter of time until he cost them a game.

Trash? Surely that's harsh. In those terms, 95% of Primera and EPL fullbacks are trash.

His strength is going forward, I do not rate him at all defensively.

Anyways, Uruguay with a good start over Peru, still 0-0. Suarez keeping himself calm this match, only complained a few hundred times in the first 20 minutes.

Is it possible that yet another crappy team manages to eliminate the other overall more talented and footballing team?

It may seems as a bold statement, but watching the last few big tournaments I'm getting pretty sick and tired of these 12-men defending teams with no offensive ideas or thoughts. Those surprises are becoming so boring to me.

Granted, Croatia made a surprise in 1998 with the third place, but they did it with some great football. Nowdays it's just defending, sitting and waiting. Something definitively has changed.

Yeah football has definitely become more negative in the past decade or so. You have the odd success story who play good football, like Russia and Turkey in recent European Championships and your Croatia in 1998. But then you have teams like Paraguay, Peru and (no offense, dst) Greece who are happy to defend and hopefully get a goal from somewhere or win it on the lottery.

Suarez, 1-0.

Suarez 2-0, very cool finish.

Vargas sent off, game over.

What a dirty player Vargas is.

Bravo to Oscar Tabarez, I hope he can go all the way now! Deserved win!

Can't blame him, you see the best team in the world doing it, you're going to copy it. Argentina were just as bad the other night, every time one of their players got touched the whole bench was up and the players running around after the ref.

It says a lot when people praise people for getting others sent off, another great trend of modern football.

You guys should tell LaPalma, he thinks football nowadays is great! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

To be clear, what I said about Germany's players is not they're crap that transform into world class players with their NT. Just that they've looked better with their NT than they've looked with their clubs. They're not the only ones, off of my head, Turkey NT's players fall into that category too.

about Klose, as good as he's been, I did not ever consider him that good or special to label him a phenomenon.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) he does that all the time, every foul he's given... and every one he's not. Together with Di Maria they are the most annoying players in this tournament.

Yeah, same. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) Shevchenko was and still is a much better, and more complete player.

Guys, I never said he is a phenomenon, I said he was phenomenal - meaning his displays. And they were.

I see Paraguay have qualified with another penalty shootout. I really hope Uruguay tear them apart.

At least they hit all 5 in the net. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) That alone is worth celebrating these days!
