Ah, but time was we did.

In the summer of 2002, we paid 35 million for Rui Costa and 30 million for Alessandro Nesta.

I know I'll get alot of disagreement on this, but I really can't agree with the previous posts on this thread. If there was any deal involving Pato going to Madrid for either Casillas, Ramos or Higuain then we would be the ones putting cash in the deal, not them. All 3 are better at their jobs than Pato is at his. If Madrid offered any of those players for Pato in a swap we'd be mad not to do it.

I was mostly just joking, Kurt.(IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Personally, I suspect the rumblings from Camp Pato are more of the 'I want more money' variety rather than the 'I want a transfer' variety. That said, if they're not...yeah. I'd probably be content with a straight swap for Casillas or Higuain or Ramos + $$$.

Pato is 20 dude: he's going to be a Balon D'or one day. We'd be stupid to trade him away.

Not if he continues to be egoist like he proved to be in some opportunities (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Are you serious?

Most certainly. I think this is a case of people being a little bias towards their own players.

Pato is, and will be, a great striker, there's no questioning that. But given the choice of him or Higuain? Despite being a French Argie, it's Gonzalo every day. The guy has only just turned 22 himself and has 24 league goals in 24 league games this season, he's outshinning Ronaldo at Madrid. He's just simply better than Pato in my view, which isn't an insult to Pato. He's scored 50 goals in the past 2 seasons and this one isn't over yet. Most underrated player on Earth right now (after James Milner (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) )

Sergio Ramos is one of the very best players in World football. I can not honestly think of one attribute he doesn't have. As well as being a clever footballer, he's an athlete. I can't think of a defender I'd rather have, most people just lack a few attributes like strength or speed, etc.

Casillas is a better GK than Pato is striker, but looking at it Pato is possibly worth more given that he's alot younger and his position is considered more valuable.

The fact Pato also seems very injury prone counts against him, as does his attitude. The above 3 all seem like model professionals, even with them playing for a club known for it's lack of class, but Pato seems to do too much talking for my liking.

So yes, I was being serious.

He'll grow out of it. Trust me.

A pato transfer is out of the question for me. The Kaka transfer, for example, is justifiable: despite being an excellent asset, he had already peaked his football and if we didn't sell him now, he would be worth much much less later on. In a way, it was the smart move.

But Pato? We can get a lot out of him in football before we start thinking about his worth in cash. Not to mention his value will double when we start performing with him scoring our goals.

I'd sanction the sale, if somehow all the computers in Milan Lab actually managed to stay up for more than one hour without crashing, and determined that Pato was going to be injury prone for the rest of his career.

Otherwise I'd wait till he's 26 too. Even if he doesn't fetch us Kaka prices, he'd still be worth a lot more than what we bought him for. Heck, I suspect by the time he's 26, we won't even want to sell him.

Would I sell him for Kaka price. Oh definitely. I don't think prices will hit that astronomical high for sometime now. Trouble is, I'm not really convinced we'd 're-build' with that money.

Higuain and VDV for Pato is a great deal. But like Jack says Pato is still young and he might turn out like sheva and we may never want to sell him.

As for Argies banned from Milan, remember Crespo.

dzeko is no longer in our reach:

QUOTE

Milan not willing to pay 40M for Dzeko

Rumours regarding the Bosnian international making a summer move to San Siro have plagued the German champions all season and Hoeness has confirmed he did speak to the Rossoneri but it seems the club’s valuation was too high for the Italians.

"We talked with AC Milan who have shown an interest but they are not willing to pay the amount that we requested and want us to lower our asking price," Hoeness said, according to Goal.com Italia.

“The amount to pay is clear though, it’s €40 million and will not change. Otherwise, Dzeko will remain with us. I always said that if we have to choose between money and the player, I'd still keep Edin here next year."

Milan, pronto l'assalto a Benzema. Pato al Real?

QUOTE

English (google translate):

Milan ready to assault Benzema. Pato Real?

QUOTE
Important, since all will be checked, the sensational rumors of market reported this morning by Catalan daily Sport. At the heart of the negotiations is the French Karim Benzema (22), so devastating in two seasons at the closed Lyon to Real Madrid dall'exploit Argentine Higuain. The player trans, which has collected only eight goals so far, has followed him from last summer from Manchester United. Ferguson last July offered 25 million euros to buy and only the interference - resulting in the highest bid - Real Madrid blew the deal. The Red Devils tried again this summer, but the front could be a new entrant. It's AC Milan, strong good relationship with the Merengues, is ready to fly the English club competition. Real - read - the Via Turati club will not offer money, but another player Alexandre Pato (20). The Brazilian would soon formalize Mino Raiola as his new attorney and is not excluded - as stated by him - even if his transfer year, the Rossoneri will close the season without winning titles.

Yup. Dzeko almost definitely seems out. And the comments he's making seem to confirm it. I suppose Damir can help us out more. But c'mon... 40 million for him? No way! I'd not pay 40 million for Torres or Zlatan even!

At least not with the kind of income we're getting.

Benzema for Pato??!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I pity the fool who lets that happen!

I think all this Pato talk is BS. Pato is not just an asset now, he's the future of Milan. Along with Thiago he's the only player that has more then 2 years of top football left in him from our entire squad.

Any ammount we get for Pato now would be robbery as he has so much more improvement ahead of him, he's only 20, by the time he's at 26 he'll be worth double what he is now.

And let's not kid ourselves with the swap deals for Real players, just like we didn't swap when we sold them Kaka, we won't swap if Pato goes there either. Milan management are greedy b@stards, they want the money fully in cash and if you have any hope of us spending that money on rebuilding the squad, think again, just like we don't know what happened to the Sheva and Kaka money because it certainly wasn't spent on the team, the same thing would happen with and Pato money we earn, they'll make another panic buy (Oliveira, Hunter) and that will be done with. We'd just end up with the weaker team and selling off our best players.

I don't think the Barca paper (Sport is to Barca as Marca is to Real) is going to necessarily have accurate information on Real's transfer market. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) So I'm callign bs on the article quoted above.

There are a couple of notes on tuttomercatoweb that Milan are making an offer for Stuttgart's Cacau. I hope this is wrong as the player is distinctly average.

There is also an article talking about Pedro Leon. La Liga guys -- is he really all that good?
