Drenthe has been looking terrible in Madrid. But I'm willing to attribute that to Real Madrid's magic (hey, they took Kaká and made him look average!)
I first saw Drenthe in the U21 Euro, and he was the best player in the tournament. He was speedy, technical and overall was a very complete... midfielder. Not a back. If we can get him by less than 10M, I'd be happy. Real got him for 14, this is a pretty real possibility. |

I agree about Drenthe being a midfielder and not a defender. In a 4-4-2 he does fit in as left midfielder, but in a 4-3-3 I'm not so sure. + He isn't that good really...

Very funny, mtl. Milner is a far better left back than Drenthe could ever dream of being, and he isn't even a left back by trade.

James was classic winger until this season, he took Gareth Barry place as DM he was never RB LB so don't know why u want this guy that much, for me Ashley Young is much more better. Regards |

But Drenthe at most is good as backup, and in a 4-3-3 his best position is leftback, where he is a liability. Because his best position is leftmidfielder in a 4-4-2. If 4-3-3 remains our formation, don't care how cheap he is: he doesn't fit in. The only reason to sign him is because he is cheap and still quite young, which makes him a last solution. Because of his great youth tournament he got hyped. There is a difference between a hyped young player like Drenthe and a real prospect like Fer (who does fit in a 4-3-3). I don't know how much all these players on the world will cost, so it's hard to think of cheap alternatives. But please let him fit in a 3 man midfield. |
