QUOTE (Zed.D @ Feb 28 2010, 05:01 PM) And despite missing 2 and a half months of action due to injury he's currently 3rd in the scorers table with 12 goals.
And all this in a season where some keep talking about how off-form he's been! I can't deny the goals he's scoring - I guess he's just not the kind of player I expected him to be after last season. I thought we had a pretender to the Messi crown of dribbling and control, where he could weave his way through multiple players with electric pace and produce something at the end of it. Whether that was a flash in the pan, or whether he's not been able to cope with more pressure on him I'm not sure, that side of his game is nigh-on gone. Don't get me wrong, to be left as just a really exceptional goalscorer is no bad consolation, and he's invaluable to us, but there's still a part of me that expects him to play like the potential of last year, and when he doesn't, I am inevitably disappointed.

Kaka had the same problem in his second season. In his first season he was electric and in the second when Serie A defenders were sticking to him and double teaming him he struggled a lot more, but he adapted to the tight marking and tough tackling and got on with what he did best. I think Pato is sort of experiancing the same thing, last season defenders were more worried about kicking Kaka and Dinho (when playing) they forgot about the young kid, this season he's getting a lot of tough treatment from defenders, he's getting fouled a lot more, defenders are marking him a lot more tightly so he's finding it harder to make those dazzling runs and tricks he used to pull of so easily. If you put Messi in Serie A he wouldn't last a week. Put Pato in the La Liga and he'll do what Messi does week in week out easily. The two leagues are completely different, so you can't compare a player who plays in La Liga to one who plays in Serie A, especially since Messi has been around for longer then Pato

QUOTE (Dracoris @ Mar 6 2010, 04:30 PM) Messi wouldn't last a week in Serie A? No way, he'd take some time to adapt but c'mon its Messi. He would be pretty influential no matter where he plays. Like Zeddie said, I was talking about the dribbling and dazzling runs. Messi would eventually adapt as well, just like Pato is still adapting.

The reason I admire this kid a lot is the fact that amidst all that hype and at such a tender age, the kid had the balls to carry an offensively weak team. This season has not lived up to the promise though. I hope Old Trafford changes everything.
