QUOTE Villa are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Paul Birch.
The former midfield star passed away this morning at Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield after a long and courageous battle against cancer.
Paul enjoyed a 19-year career as a professional footballer, making 462 first-class appearances until his retirement in 1999.
Between 1980 and 1991, he played over 200 games for Villa before joining Wolves.
We express our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Spokesman Steve Tudgay said: "We are sad to lose another fine Villa servant in the wake of the recent passing of Johnny Dixon and Vic Crowe.
"Paul was an honest, hard-working player whose efforts always endeared him to Villa supporters.
"It's tragic that he has been taken from us at such a young age. Our thoughts are with Paul's family and close friends." RIP Birchy. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) A very sad week for AVFC. First of all our last FA Cup winning manager, Vic Crowe passed away. Then the captain of that FA Cup winning side, and a man that played 17 years for the claret and blue, Johnny Dixon passed away. Now a loyal servant and great bloke in Paul Birch. (IMG: http://www.avfc.premiumtv.co.uk/javaImages/b/c2/0,,10265~3654155,00.jpg) (IMG: http://www.thebig16.co.uk/Images/t_av_fa1957.jpg)

QUOTE (acid911 @ Feb 4 2009, 03:20 PM) I don't know what to think of it. No two words about Arshavin and his talent, which he has more than ample amount of. Who knows, maybe he'll flourish in a club like Arsenal, maybe they'll bring out the best in him? (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) If there was one club where I'd have suggested him to go, it'd have been the Gunners. He isn't exactly young; isn't too old either. I'm curious to see what kind of a show he puts up in London. Here's a beer, Lock, for your new signing. Been a while: (IMG: http://i27.tinypic.com/315etu1.png) Beer added. I have to admit I'm kinda excited by this, its nice to see Wenger finally bringing in a big name, and just as nice to see us sign a player who is old enough to own a drivers licence.

Good signing for Arsenal, but still a bit unfair. The transfer actually didn't go through in time, it was nearly a full 24 hours later that it did. Alot of the journos have shown their sympathy towards Villa over it, because it's ******** really, though the Premier League once again shows it's true colours, there's only 4 clubs they care about. Fuckers.
Arshavin has the talent, no question. One thing the Euro's showed is that his fitness levels are poor, he was exhausted playing 3 games in 8 days.. he'd better get used to it.

Nah, the papers weren't even received on deadline day! If they were just a few minutes late or something then there wouldn't be an issue, but the fact that a team were given another 24 hours in order to complete a deal is not right really. In Wengers defense, he probably didn't see it was deadline day. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) FT Villa 3-1 Doncaster in the FA Cup. We play the winners of Everton-Liverpool (Currently 0-0). -Sidwell, Carew and Delfouneso.

Didn't the FA postpone the deadline in England?

QUOTE (Locke Lamora @ Feb 4 2009, 09:54 PM) Every top team in every top league gets some favours from time to time. Sad but true. QUOTE (dst @ Feb 4 2009, 10:05 PM) Didn't the FA postpone the deadline in England? The deadline is on midnight of the last day of the month, so August 31st/January 31st, unless this day falls on a weekend. If it does fall on a weekend, it is oved to the nearest Monday, with the deadline at 5pm. This was the case this year. Everton 0-0 Liverpool. -Gerrard went off injured after 15 minutes. -Lucas was sent off for a 2nd yellow. -Extra time now being played.

QUOTE (dst @ Feb 4 2009, 10:36 PM) What's this then? I'm not supporting Arsenal here I just remember reading about this, I don't even know if it actually happened. I do believe this happened, but the whole point of this was to allow teams to get players to take a medical. IF the medical was taken place before the deadline - which Arshavins was, he took a medical on Sunday - then it doesn't apply and the papaerwork still needs to be in by Feb 2nd, 5pm GMT. QUOTE (CrazyMilanFan @ Feb 4 2009, 10:46 PM) everton win 1-0 they will play Villa now in FA cup I am not looking forward to going back to Goodison, not after what we did last time!
