He's a good player. But his behavior re: national teams is...tacky. Very tacky. Fins down from Fishdoll on this one.

QUOTE (whoarethepatriots @ Jan 9 2009, 04:10 PM) Goal.com (or an equally dubious site) was reporting that Amauri is having passport problems, so he may not get an Italian passport. I hope this is the case, Brazil call him up once, then never again. It would be a perfect ending for someone like Amauri Cannot agree more. They should definately do a "Catanha"..

Weather update: the Friday Serie B game between Sassuolo and Brescia has been postponed due to a frozen pitch. They'll try again tomorrow. Sassulo play on Modena's pitch because their own is too small. Modena is in north-central Italy (between Florence and Milan). We may see a game or two postponed and/or cancelled tomorrow and Sunday.
The Lega Calcio in its wisdom has scheduled a lot of late Saturday and Sunday Serie A games in northern cities (Turin, Milan, Udine, Bergamo). Oy.

I haven't the foggiest whether the San Siro (or Turin's Olimpico) or any other pitch in Italy has the heating equipment. Tech guys? Any of you know?

For what it's worth, the Lega Calcio has officially green-lighted the early Saturday game between Genoa and Toro.

QUOTE Aquilani set to extendFriday 9 January, 2009 Roma midfield star Alberto Aquilani is close to agreeing a four-year contract extension with the club. There have been doubts over the Azzurri ace's future as he has stalled over putting pen to paper on a new deal. Reports emerged that Juventus were tracking Aquilani and plotting a mega bid, but now it seems he is staying put. “We are very close to a renewal,” Aquilani's agent Franco Zavaglia told Laroma24.it. “I think the contract will be sealed around February and it will be a four-year deal. “There are still some small details to discuss, but we are confident of a successful resolution.” Aquilani is in doubt for this weekend's game against Milan due to a back problem. ::channel4:: I never believed we'd sign him but if he signs a new contract I'll give up hoping.

^^ And I'd steal one of Fishdoll's cookies and bet it that the Roma player most likely to be signed is Mexes (I'd prefer De Rossi in a lot of ways but it's not right to steal the team symbols unless it's a situation like Lazio faced with Nesta).
Injury note: the gobbi will be without Buffon and Chiellini for the game against Siena. Buffon isn't match fit and only did part of the training yesterday. Chiellini picked up a leg injury this week (didn't play their friendly) and isn't going to be risked even though he did train regularly yesterday.

Serie B note: all the games but Sassuolo-Brescia were played today. There are seven teams within 3 points of each other at the top of the league (and even the 12th place team - Billy's Mantova - is only 9 points off the leader). The leadership keeps changing week to week. Right now, it's Livorno-Bari-Parma in the first three places. Young Alberto did play a big chunk of Parma's game today but did not score (Parma drew their game v. Vicenza).
