Bit of mistaken identity here on my part. Mea culpa!

The article in corriere (link) does indeed mention a defender named Kovac as an alternative. However, they mean Spartak Moscow's Radoslav Kovac (who plays for the Czech NT) and not Robert Kovac, who plays for the Croatia NT.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) .. I made the same mistake. Must be that he has Croatian roots. Anyway, seen him play, and,... well, let's rather un-retire Luigi Sala... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

From tuttomercatoweb.

[After yesterday's Chelsea game, Ivanovic went to talk to Abramovich to tell him one more time that he absolutely wanted to go to Milan. And tonight, Chelsea again said no to Milan," Marko Naletilic said. 'It's true, even today we thought it was possible, but now...the player is furious but we can't do any more: it seems like an unsuccessful deal, but never say never.']

If you have an angry player it can do horrors to team morale. The player will cause problems. Is there anyway he can simply get out of his contract? I'm sure he can talk to FIFA about this...

'Invisible Ivanovic set to move to Milan'

The agent of out-of-favour Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has indicated the Serbia international is set to join AC Milan.

Ivanovic is yet to make a single appearance for the Blues since joining from Lokomotiv Moscow in a £10million deal in January.

Chelsea are apparently reluctant to let the player go but Ivanovic's agent, Vlado Borozan, believes they are set to agree a deal to send the 24-year-old to the San Siro.

Whether that transfer will be permanent or a loan move remains unclear, but Borozan warned that the player was unhappy to be a back-up in west London and that he had set his heart on a move to the north of Italy.

'Branislav chose Milan and he told that to the club, and for that reason he will probably wear the Rossoneri shirt this next season,' he told tuttomercato.com.

'The deal will be done because no-one will keep an unhappy player.'

Despite suggesting a deal was imminent, Borozan conceded negotiations between the clubs had stalled because of Chelsea's reluctance to let the defender leave Stamford Bridge.

Only last week Borozan revealed Chelsea had refused to sell the player because they regarded him as an 'indispensable' member of the team.

'The problem at the moment is that Chelsea want four starters in the position and he is the fourth. It's difficult to find a replacement of the same level, so the Blues want to keep him and the deal has stalled,' Borozan said.

'The English are bringing grist to their own mill to up the price a bit.

While I would ecstatic and very pleased to see such a move, that story seems somewhat recycled to me.

He'll move here, its just a matter of how much money were going to pay. The stories about stendardo and all the other defenders are like the adebayor situation. I dont think it will work on chelsea because they dont care about money so they wont be forced to sell him. They want to make us pay and conpensate for sheva as much as possible. In the end we'll end up paying what they want or trading or something for him.

Ivanovic is pissed. But he doesn't seem to be the kind of player who can pose a head ache when he's pissed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I think Milan will have to really put in a huge amount and buy him outright. I don't blame the club for not wanting to do that, but then with 2 weeks left to go, we're running out of options. Chelsea unfortunately, don't need the money or have the need to balance their books. They can actually walk the talk of letting a player rot in the stands. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I hope he comes. I hate it when good players say they want to come to Milan, but are blocked by something else than footballing quality reasons.

This morning's rumors:

1. Tuttomercatoweb is reporting that because of the problems related to Ivanovic, Milan has decided to go after Thiago Silva. The only problem with this is that it'd be hard to get him in before the winter window so Milan may end up going after an expedient in the meantime.

2. In news that will surely break Habitant's heart, Gazzetta is reporting that Lazio are offering Stendardo to Milan for Brocchi. It would seem that there's some truth in the rumor that surfaced yesterday. Corriere gets things right every now and then.
