Drogba Tells Team-Mates He’s Signing For Inter

Chelsea hitman Didier Drogba has told club team-mates that he will be signing for Inter in the summer, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

Drogba is certain to quit Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, as he wants a new challenge abroad, and the only question mark up until now is where he will end up. 

Only four teams have a realistic chance of luring the Ivorian; Milan, Inter, Real Madrid and Barcelona. 

According to the Corriere, as well as a number of other sources in Italy, Drogba has told his Chelsea team-mates that he will in fact be signing for Inter.

The 30-year-old has agreed to the move as he wants to link up once again with Jose Mourinho, who is looking highly likely to replace Roberto Mancini as coach in the summer.

A transfer fee of €23m will be enough to take Drogba from West London to San Siro, where the ex-Marseille man will form a terrifying-looking forward partnership with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Drogba/Ibrahimovic/Cruz/Suazo. Well, that certainly isn't the worse strike force I've ever seen.

I agree with Fillipo on him. The fact he's playing for Dortmund and still scoring is the best argument for him.

Mellberg's mind is on Juve

Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg is hoping to leave the club on a high, but he can’t wait to start his new adventure at Juventus.

The Swedish international’s contract at Villa Park expires this summer and he has agreed a pre-contract with the Old Lady.

“I thought that it was the right time to leave,” Mellberg stressed. “You never know about these things, but it felt right.

“Juve came along and they’ve been interested in me for quite some time and they’ve followed me with the national team and with Villa.

“They have a great Coach and they are also one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it was an opportunity that it was right to take.

“I watch the Bianconeri all the time now and I watch all their games on TV. They are doing well at the moment. It’s important that they qualify for the Champions League and they are up there challenging.”

After seven years in Birmingham, the 30-year-old wants to leave as many happy memories as possible.

“It would be nice to finish on a high and qualify for Europe so that the club can take another step forward next season,” Mellberg explained.

“It will be hard to leave. I’ve had a great time – my best footballing years – and I have made many friends. I feel a lot for the club and for the fans and people within the organisation. I have had a great time.

“There’s quite a gap now to fifth spot, but we’re still challenging for the Intertoto with Manchester City and Portsmouth, so we could still get into Europe,” he concluded.

Cesare: I’ll be Viola’s Ferguson

Fiorentina boss Cesare Prandelli insists that he won’t be lured away from the Stadio Franchi, as he wants to be “the Viola’s Sir Alex Ferguson.”

Prandelli is arguably Italy’s most respected tactician after building a top-five side from scratch in Tuscany.

In recent weeks, the former Parma man has been touted as a possible replacement for Roberto Mancini at Inter, but he seems to have no intention of quitting his current job.

“What do I think about becoming Fiorentina’s Ferguson? It really appeals to me,” Prandelli enthused in La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I want to see continuity through the growth and management of youth and talent and the creation of a staff that expands and evolves.

“In Italy it is more difficult to do this than it is elsewhere, but Florence has great expectations and I would like to turn this into a winning city. I want to win here.”

Prandelli is under contract with Fiorentina until 2011, but some sources feel that, rather than Inter, he could be in the frame for the Azzurri job should Roberto Donadoni fail to deliver at Euro 2008.
