QUOTE Casillas and Ronaldo Top European Team Of January Votes The best starting eleven in Europe for the month of January - voted for by the writers from the ten publications that fall under the European Sports Magazines umbrella - has been announced today, with Iker Casillas and Cristiano Ronaldo leading the votes. The team is announced on a monthly basis, and for Janaury, Real Madrid are the best represented team, with three of their players making the eleven. Goalkeeper Iker Casillas was a universal choice among all the publications except for the Gazzetta Dello Sport, with the Italians voting Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon as the best in January. He was tied at the top of the voting by Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo, with only Don Balón of Spain omitting the Portuguese winger from the team. Emmanuel Adebayor of Arsenal received six votes, with Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Robinho (Real Madrid), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Mancini (Roma), Esteban Cambiasso (Inter Milan), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter) and Alexandre Pato (AC Milan) all tied on five votes. AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta also found his way into the team with three votes. Players who just missed out on the eleven included Karim Benzema (Lyon), Michael Ballack (Chelsea), Guti (Real Madrid), Nihat Kahveci (Villarreal) and Martin Laursen (Aston Villa). Team: GK Iker Casillas DF Sergio Ramos DF Rio Ferdinand DF Alessandro Nesta MF Esteban Cambiasso MF Robinho MF Mancini MF Cristiano Ronaldo FW Zlatan Ibrahimovic FW Alexandre Pato FW Emmanuel Adebayor Alex Pato in Europe's 11. The team sounds about right from what I've seen. Many congrats to Pato, now THAT is an instant impact.
Nice to see Laursen up there with the best of Europe, too. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Kaka' hasn't been that impressive since the winter break, I'm not really surprised he's not been named. |

Winter break? I'd say this season. From last July on. Nowhere near Cristiano, Robinho, Casillas, Torres, Ibrahimovic, Cambiasso, S.Ramos, Adebayor etc... Again, I mean THIS SEASON. |

QUOTE (Porty @ Feb 26 2008, 06:29 PM) Winter break? I'd say this season. From last July on. He had a decent start to this season, most of his best performances and goals came then. But yes, he was poor even before the winter break, you're right. QUOTE (Fillipo Simone @ Feb 26 2008, 07:02 PM) Were the hell is Ze Roberto?? (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) And Martin Laursen? Our Laursen? I agree with Ze Roberto. I've not managed to catch many Bayern games this season, but when I have, he's been very influential in alot that they do. Yes. I'm not surprised he was being considered. I'm surprised he didn't make the team, though. |

(IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) They would need to score 15 goals in every game to win... Nesta!! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/king.gif) And Pato... in his first month... (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I disagree that Kaka has been poor this season. You just have to see the two halves against Palermo from last Sunday to realize the impact he has on this team. Not as good as to be in the best XI though. |

Kaka is nowhere near last season. he was the absolute best, worldwide-wise. but he's still one of our two or three best players this season imho.
