Btw. Donna did not make a single save if I am not mistaken. Which is a huge defensive feat in and of itself
Wrong. Malinovskiy shot a outside-the-box shot straight into his arms.
Anyway, I'm in for a reassessment of our season and team.
Donnarumma, Kessie, Calabria and Kjaer had a almost impeccable season. We should definitively hold onto them.
Rebić, Hernandez and Alexis are very important to us and I think they still can grow. Tomori is a potential rock and we should definitively sign him permanently. Unsure what to do with Romagnoli. The biggest problem with him is that he's not improving and making the same mistakes over and over again. Yet his leadership skills and commanding ability is what we lack often.
Ibra is the true team leader and it's really good to have something of his winning mentality.
I'd also keep Krunić and Meite who seem to be needed by Pioli as the sort of extra muscle Ancelotti used to take in. Sure, they're not especially quality but yesterday they proved me wrong and gave much needed stability to the team. Not for the first time either.
I'm very unsure about Diaz, who has his bright moments but all in all has too many problems to be considered a long term solution. Leao should definitively be sold. Dalot improved a lot, but still I'm leaning towards sending him back. I'd also keep Mandzo for a second spell because he seems to be coming into shape and I think he can be cheap and effective given more time as a 3rd option upfront.
Now the biggest question mark for me is Bennacer. After his repeated injury he never came back if you ask me. I was angry when Pioli took him off against Cagliari but yesterday he did rightly so. Misplaced passes all over the field, no real creative impetus and above all not able to shake off the pressuring. I know you guys adore Bennacer and I still think he's a really good option in midfield, but I'm starting to be skeptical here.
Pioli. Well... now that we secured CL I'll say that I'd rather sign a more experienced coach who won't burn out that quickly with us. I think Pioli is handling this team good but I think there's very little room to grow. He's played every trick in his playbook, he's having a good relationship with the team, granted, but I don't see how he can further improve the troops. That being said, I'm not sure a good coach is available and willing to take over, not to say that our management is satisfied. So keeping Pioli will definitively be the right thing to do, but not the best thing IMO.
For next season we need a new striker. We need a right winger who is capable of attacking and has speed and mobility. We need a creator to replace Hakan (Mkhitaryan maybe?), another perhaps younger creative midfielder to replace Meite, a fullback (perhaps keep Conti and Laxalt) and potentially a CB if Romag leaves. So we need 3 top players/potentially starters and at least 3 rotational players.
I'm willing to watch the EURO and give Belotti another chance but right now I'm all against him. I think he's vastly overrated and he stayed for too long in Turin to become anything else but a choker and loser. For Christ sake, there's a reason why he's pushing 28 and still playing for Torino. I'd rather sign someone who can bring either the unknown talent factor (like Leao should have done) or a tested and proven player. What do you guys think of Giroud for free and a versatile striker who can cover both CF and RW?
The creative spot to replace the ever undependable Hakan is what worries me. No real target comes to mind other then Mkhitaryan who is better then Hakan but still not what we need.
