OFFICIAL: ANCELOTTI QUITS MILAN Sunday 31 May, 2009

Carlo Ancelotti has announced he is leaving Milan this summer "by mutual consent,” but refused to confirm a deal with Chelsea.

“In agreement with the club we have decided to terminate the contract a year early,” he said after the 2-0 victory at Fiorentina secured automatic entry into the Champions League.

“My wonderful experience with this side ends today. I thank all the players, directors, fans and everyone involved.

“I think it ends in the right way and is probably the right choice for both of us. The respect and affection remains with all the people who over the years participated in this adventure.”

The split has been on the cards for some time, but Ancelotti continued to insist he had not lied when he said he was “100 per cent” sure of staying.

“We spoke about it after the game with [Vice-President Adriano] Galliani and [President Silvio] Berlusconi. We decided together to make this decision without problems. We part in sync and with no disagreements.”

He is expected to join Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, especially after writing in his book about a meeting with Roman Abramovich.

“I cannot officialise my future because I do not have an agreement with any other club.”

President Berlusconi did not always support his Coach in public, but again Ancelotti refused to criticise the patron.

“I have great respect and love for President Berlusconi. We've had a few disagreements over the years, but this is the day to thank him for eight wonderful years of my career.

“He let me spend nearly a decade at the helm of a great club that was at the top of world football, so my gratitude goes beyond the odd phone call.

“The decisions were made at the end of this season. It was a complicated campaign and we left it two months ago with the agreement we'd make the decision after the final game. That's what we did.

“I hope you'll know what my future is soon. London is not necessarily the guaranteed next stop.”

True.

However as the Wachowski brothers put it 'Everything that has a beginning has an end'.

Don't get me wrong, I am very sad Maldini played his last game, but at the same time, I have a passion for tennis and it was just such a shock that Nadal lost today to Soderling. I mean SoderWHO? dry.gif

"Today my beautiful Milan adventure has come to an end"

Tassoti & Galli will be Leonardo's assistants, probably.
Zed.D
It's obvious it's going to be Leonardo. did you see how passionately Galliani hugged him every time we scored? also, there was a strange kind of smile on Leonardo's face every time the camera zoomed on him!

I hope they know what they're doing!
Minami
do you think that he'll be milan coach fpr next season or that he's just a temporarily solution?

I hope for the second, although i don't know if he's good as a coach...
agenth
he will be the coach. it was announced by galliani, tomorrow is his presentation.

that was so clear.. why get somebody new, when there's somebody easily to oppress?

Show the man some respect, will you? He accomplished a lot with us in eight seasons that most other coaches could only dream of.

This could either work Spectaularly (as whats happening with Pep at Barca), or it could spectacularly backfire. Time will tell

Regardless, Grazie Carlo!

Regardless, Grazie Carlo!

I guess with a right set of players (younger XI with less unmotivated or underperforming champions) he may succeed. if we're emulating Barca, let's do it right!

A CB, a full back, a midfielder to replace Zee and a big striker (plus all of our current players healthy and ready to go) would do the trick IMO.

Rookie coach. What a brilliant idea. Just what we needed. Play the samba out loud! dry.gif

I guess Galliani will try to sign Van Basten or some other coach till late august. Leo is simply a bad choice at this point. I hope I'm wrong.

Ronaldinho blocked Rijkaard I suppose. Arghhh..
Rivaldo
Forza Leo! Jope he will be good at coaching.

Bye Carlo...

Why should he ? Ronaldinho and Franko had a wonderful time in Barca, so I dont see any obstacles. I dont know anything about Leonardo, but hope to see more Ronaldinho playing and Sheva too.

I usually find myself agreeing with what you say, but.. the players and money he's had to build this team in 8 years, he should have won much more. The Pink Panther could have done this job no worse than Carlo, and he doesn't even exist.
Zed.D
I would have preferred Rijkaard or even Mvb, but now I won't write Leonardo off.

GOOD LUCK, LEONARDO!!

FAREWELL CARLETTO!!

5/31/2009 7:35:00 PM

An emotional Adriano Galliani announced the Rossoneri’s turning point: from tomorrow the new coach will be Leonardo. With regards to Ancelotti, the wish is that one day he can return on the Milan bench.

FLORENCE – These are the declarations of the Rossoneri’s general manager, Adriano Galliani, at the end of Fiorentina-Milan:

“It was a great game, but after all with Carlo on the bench we rarely get the big games wrong, we have always trained at our best to face them. Now let’s think about the next Champions League draw, we will surely be in that of the top eight in Europe and this is a thing that should fill with pride all of our fans, even before us directors.

“Right now I’m very excited for Paolo Maldini’s farewell and Carlo Ancelotti’s good-bye: yes, the latter it will be just a good-bye, because the coaches can always return, whereas the players at the age of Paolo no, even though I continue to try to convince him not to stop.

“With Carlo Ancelotti these have been fantastic and marvellous years: eight years, eight trophies. Of common agreement, we have decided to anticipate of a year the natural expiry of his contract, but our friendship and his closeness to the club will continue. We hope, in some years time, to see him again on the bench with us and maybe to win other Champions Leagues with Carletto as a coach. A thing is certain: when he will return, he will do better than Sacchi and Capello!”

“We have never contacted any other coach, we told ourselves that the alternatives would have been only two: or continuing with Ancelotti or Leonardo. With regards to the Brazilian, we love our house coaches, and Leonardo undertook the same professional path of Capello. I wish him the same luck, quality and success of Capello! The presentation of the new coach will be tomorrow at San Siro at noon.”

I appreciate what he has achieved with us but I feel with the squad he had we should have won far more.

Well it's not like the squad he had was without any competition...let's see just how much Ancelotti has won:

1 Scudetto
1 Coppa Italia
1 Supercoppa Italiana
2 Champions League
2 European Supercups
1 World Club Cup

Total: 8 trophies in 8 years. With competition from Roma, Juve and Inter domestically and everything imaginable internationally.
Fillipo Simone
Far more or far less, fact stays, he's one of Milan's top coaches ever.

Thanks for what you have offered! smile.gif

It was time to go, I think this move will benefit both parties.

As for the future, as long as you are not coaching in Italy, I wish you great domestical success! Ciao!! sleep.gif

You guys can't act as if he hasn't done anything positive for the club.
What exactly are you saying? That it was a painful 8 years?! I beg to differ!

Okay so we (most of us) wanted some change with regards to our coach a good while now, but now that it has reached there is no reason for us to lambast Carlo further than we already have. We could show some respect to a man who has given us much joy over the years. He is a great coach [that possibly needs some change, as did we]

Great things never last forever; now that we have parted ways, I hope for further success in both directions...

GRAZIE Carlo.

will definitely be remembered as on of our greatest coaches, but I agree that it's time to part ways.

i also like that both him and maldini are leaving together. i think that will help with the changing of the guards.

can't wait to see how we look next year...even more glad that maldini and carlo got to go out with a win and qualifying us for CL.

wingers? who knows

Pato and G. Rossi as wingers with a big guy in the middle. that'd be great (even if it means less goals for Pato) but will it happen?

Hope Leonardo's got enough balls to make changes. starting with benching those who don't deserve to play, and changing the system of our play.

100 % true...
It would be so ungrateful to not appreciate everything the guy been offering to Milan and all the titles that we won with him...
If there were some failures, the reasons of these were not fully his.
What do u expect from someone who asks for a defender and the club bring him a playmaker...
He asks for another defender then the club bring another playmaker...

What Ancelotti did with Milan cannot be ealisy done by others. The Stability he created at the club whereas other coaches would have gone crazy about the Club's decisions is to be appreciated.

Neverthless, Milan need new blood and not from the coaching side only but from the starting 11 to say the least,

Million Thank You Carletto, All the best in your new adventure wherever it is...
Welcome Leo,

And Forza Milan.

@ Trini

I don't think it was a painful 8 years but a painful last 2 years. but yes, he's gone and even I am not criticizing him anymore. it's over. Carlo is in the Club's history pages! if we're going to remember him, let's remember him for the good things he did. that sounds pretentious and lame, but I mean it!
