Wenger fears Adebayor rebellion Sunday 29 June, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arsene Wenger warns he won’t release Emmanuel Adebayor to Milan, but also admits it’ll be “impossible” to hold him against his will.

The Togo international sent out mixed messages on Friday, announcing he was staying at Arsenal and straight afterwards confirming he would only decide on his future next week.

"He's under contract. That's quite simple. I'm not worried. I can tell you as manager of Arsenal Football Club I am not worried,” assured Wenger.

However, Adebayor is ready to make huge wage demands to force the Gunners into a £30m sale to Milan.

Although Wenger was talking about Cristiano Ronaldo’s battle with Manchester United, his comments quite comfortably apply to Adebayor’s situation as well.

"Contractually clubs are in an ever weaker position these days. OK, you can think 'I can leave this guy here if he sulks and play him in the reserves'. But it doesn't work. It's a good solution in theory but on a daily basis it's impossible.

"United have been strong and I give them credit for that. But maybe they know as well that the desire to leave doesn't really come from the player.

“It could be from another environment, from a club that's tapped him up. It is not right and there comes a point where someone has to make a stand.

"But for me I am not focused on the Ronaldo case because it's not my problem. It's the general case that's more worrying for me."

The latest reports suggest Milan will offer Clarence Seedorf to Arsenal as part of the Adebayor deal. blink.gif

Oh, my, they're really grasping for straws now. They take Seedorf's 'never say never' comment regarding playing in england and latch it onto the Adebayor story, conveniently ignoring the first half of Seedorf's interview in which he said that he was looking forward to seeing Adebayor at Milan.

It's a shame that individuals have more power than a club nowadays. I personally wouldn't stand for it if I was a manager. If a player, like Adebayor at Arsenal, started giving ultimatums and getting threatening, I'd refuse to sell him and stick him inthe reserves for the rest of his contract, it's the least they deserve. No class at all, no thanks for Wenger or Arsenal, the two things that've made him who he is. Quite disgracefu if you ask me!

Well to some extent, I think the claims of Ade demanding a 120,000 per week contract are exaggerated.

But at the same time I think, not giving Ade any raise at all, when obviously he is considered as their new frontline striker alongside RvP is also kinda stingy on Arsenal's part.

I'm all for performance based incentives being put into the contract, but there ought to be a vice versa as well.

For eg...

Base salary 30k a week, he gets an extra 3000 for every goal he scores above the 20th goal mark. If he falls below the 20th goal mark in a season, for any reason other than a long injury lay off, his base salary for the next year is dropped.

I'm sure you could put this into legalese. That way, the players have no excuse and no gripes.

Of course the above seems a litle more difficult to apply to mid-fielders and fullbacks. But it's mostly the goddamn strikers who are problem children anyway.

But I suppose the thing with players at a club like Arsenal is, they see so much attendance week in and week out, they're being praised to the heavens, told they're big stars, they see their shirts selling, they know there's a lot of money being made, but hey none of it is coming to them. So where is it going??

I am tired of hearing these rumours. Adeb is not coming to Milan, Milan would have gotten his signature. Why would you come to Milan anyways your on Arsenal who in the first half of the season last year where the best team in the world. Flamini didn't get regular play time so he is opting out. It might not be in his best interest to find the bench a comfortable spot after our team for the last 5 years gets the nod over him.
