Cafu: I'm too young to quit
Wednesday 23 April, 2008

Milan veteran Marcos Cafu is 37 years old, but has absolutely no intention of hanging up his boots just yet.

“I still haven’t decided what I will do and there is still a month to go before the end of the season, but I do not think I will retire,” revealed the Brazilian.

“I am still motivated. When I am on the bench or in the stands, I feel bad. I still have the desire to prove I can do a great deal for football, even if I am 37 years old.”

Cafu has been at Milan since a free transfer from Roma in 2003 and even back then was considering seeing out the final years of his career in Japan.

“I am feeling good at the moment after having a few fitness problems. The important thing is that when the Coach calls, I am ready to give my contribution.

“It always makes a player happy knowing he can contribute to the success of the squad.”

The right-back has had to play more regularly of late because Massimo Oddo underwent surgery and hopes he can help Milan finish in the top four.

“We will try to get there at all costs. There are four rounds left in which we must achieve everything we possibly can and then, if the other sides also do well and end up ahead, all we can do is take our hats off to them.

“The important thing is that we do well so there can be no regrets. If the other teams want to give us a hand by slipping up, then that is even better.”

I want him to stay. We have to do what's needed in any case...

Gee, maybe Cafu can me send over some of the stuff he gets to eat at Milan! He's not the player that he was 10 years ago, though he can still put in some very decent performances. And he has experience. But that still doesn't mean he isn't aging. For now, I'd happily keep him, what with all of his influence on our South American contingent.

But remember: there will come a time, my Brazilian friend. Sooner or later it will. smile.gif

Maybe its a "translation" problem tongue.gif.

He was probably talking of how young he's for a coach.... sleepysmiley03.gif rolleyes.gif

Yeesh....sometimes dst is right. You just can't believe some of the stuff you see here.

Cafu stays. He's done too much for us in 4 years to be dumped like yesterday's leftovers.

For heaven's sake we're Milan...not some mid 20th century glory whore club with new money and cockiness.

Stay on Marcos. I have absolute faith, that he will leave when he feels he cannot contribute.

Even if we were to bring Vargas in, I have no doubt the kid could learn more in 2 weeks in training with Marcos, than he has so far in his entire career in Serie A.

But I do hope he becomes a coach. biggrin.gif It would be good to see Billy and Cafu and all of them become coaches. laugh.gif Milan class of 2000-2008. laugh.gif

I love Cafu and I know he can continue another season [not on the pith of course, on the bench. he's a decent backup for Oddo/Zambro/Bonera!]... but the truth is only at Milan you hear a 37yo (pay attention please... 37yearsold!!) say why he should retire..

Unbelievable.

What does it matter pal? If the board understand our situation they're going to get the players needed whether Cafu stays or not... and he is a player of great influence to have in the squad while he is also good enough to play 5-6 games a season...

Stay on Cafu they need to learn from you !!
Fillipo Simone
It's just good news I'd say..

That's a big IF. I don't have a problem with Cafu, Serginho etc... staying as long as the board don't use it as excuse to why we are not buying some player.
