Totti: Euro refs don't help Inter
Wednesday 12 March, 2008

Francesco Totti is causing more controversy, as he accused Inter of failing in Europe “because the referees there aren’t conditioned.”

The Roma captain has repeatedly hinted the Nerazzurri have benefited from refereeing decisions in the Serie A race.

Now he has turned his attention on the fact that Inter have slumped out of the Champions League, having received four red cards in seven games.

“The European referees treat Inter differently,” he told Rete Sport. “For them, Inter or Liverpool are two clubs like any other, it makes no difference. Those referees can officiate without being conditioned.”

The comments are bound to stir up further controversy after teammate Daniele De Rossi infuriated Inter President Massimo Moratti last week.

De Rossi claimed if it weren’t for refereeing errors then “Roma would be top of the table” and suggested “we have no control over Inter’s wins. The trouble is I don’t think Inter do, either.”

Meanwhile, Roma are the only Italian team left in the Champions League and are also just six points adrift of the Serie A leaders.

“This is a better season than the last, when Inter killed off Serie A,” continued Totti.

“We want to go all the way in the Champions League and close the gap on Inter. It’s a shame certain incidents did not go our way, but that’s alright, we’ll keep going. We believe we can do it.”

Totti is merely saying what we all think/know

As much as I like both Roma and Totti, they get as much help from refs as any other top club, in my opinion. There's plently of penalty decisions for all of Milan, Inter, Roma and Juve that I've seen give that shouldn't have been.

The amount of refs mistakes in favour of Inter are way above the normal this season.

Roma also got many calls in their favour this season. More than usual.

Inter don't just get the big club calls, they are favored in most of their games. Roma are too but not so much. Now I never believe in conspiracy theories so I don't believe in that they control the refs... but it is true that they have been receing many gifts. For what it's worth I think they would still win the league just with a bigger effort...

Damn, I hope Roma win the Scudetto this year.
I really like them as a team, and I'd love to see what excuses Mancini and Moratti would give for Inter not winning a shite this year...only guy at Inter that deserves the title is Zanetti.
